Mastering Dark Magic – Chapter 8

Episode 8: A Miracle Stacked Upon a Miracle

I head towards Emilie Village, where Mizuha was born.

Thanks to support from the True Holy Order, it has grown to a scale too large to be called a village, but it is still named Emilie Village.

Mizuha, who has retired from being the Saintess, should be here.

In the original story, three years later, Akito, having been given a terminal diagnosis and becoming self-destructive, flees the Royal Capital and aimlessly arrives at Emilie Village, where he meets Mizuha. However, I have ignored the original flow and come here.

First, I go to the Adventurer’s Guild in Emilie Village to gather information.

There was a man who tried to pick a fight with me, saying, “This ain’t a place for kids,” so I bound him with Dark Tentacles, and everyone started answering my questions honestly.

It’s important to show a certain level of power so that people don’t look down on you.

First, large monsters haven’t been sighted near this village for a long time.

However, a female adventurer named Mizuha has recently started operating in this village.

Mizuha is quite the airhead, so even though she wants to hide her identity, it doesn’t occur to her to use a fake name.

“So, is this Mizuha not here today?”

“Mizuha went out to hunt monsters. She’s on a trial run with a certain party. If they get along well, she’ll join them.”

This is bad.

This is close to a turning point in the story.

I get a map drawn for me and hurry to where Mizuha and the others went.

As I run through the forest, someone else comes running from the other direction.

“Hey, you! Don’t go any further! There’s an incredibly huge monster ahead! It’s as big as a castle!”

“Our companions are holding it back… We’re going to call for reinforcements from the village! You should come with us!”

Ignoring the adventurers’ voices, I press on.

Then, I encounter the monster. It’s not quite as big as a castle, but it’s about the size of a three-story house.

It’s a plant monster, a conglomeration of all sorts of twisted and hardened plants.

It extends countless green tentacles, crushing the surrounding trees, grabbing them, and throwing them like spears.

The monster’s target is a single woman.

Long, light blue hair. A black veil covering it. A matching black dress. She looks like a priestess, no matter how you look at it.

Even in the novel’s illustrations, I wondered if she really intended to hide her identity as the Saintess.

Akito also made a similar comment in the original story. Mizuha’s response was, “I’ve been like this for a hundred years, so I can’t relax if I’m not.”

This airheaded Mizuha elegantly dodges the thrown trees, occasionally kicking them away.

Her physical abilities are incredible.

There probably isn’t an adventurer in the Royal Capital who can move like that.

Then, Mizuha takes out swords from what should be empty space.

Two in her hands. And four in the air.

The four floating swords are launched with great force, dancing as they slice through the plant tentacles.

Mizuha herself joins the dance, swinging the swords in arcs, advancing towards the monster’s main body.

The first Saintess, Mizuha. Also known as the Sword Saintess.

As her name suggests, she has the ability to materialize swords with her Magical Power and control them freely.

If she could only summon and retract swords, it would be plain, but as you can see, they fly like missiles, moving with incredible speed and complexity. And they are incredibly sharp. They could probably shoot down an airplane on Earth.

“I can’t lose here! I absolutely have to live for another three years!”

Huh?

Mizuha’s way of speaking is different from the original story. She should be using polite language even when talking to herself.

Also, what is she talking about with three years? She meets Akito three years later, but she shouldn’t know about that future.

Unless she’s read the original story like me.

“Could it be, no way, that’s like a miracle stacked upon a miracle, in reality…”

I had always hoped it would be true.

But I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to handle it if it wasn’t, so I tried not to think about it.

Yet, I had a sudden fantasy and tried to shake it off.

Is it possible that something so convenient for me has actually happened?

“I’ve endured for a hundred years for that… I’ve been following the original story all along… I’m almost there… I won’t die before I meet Akito-kun!”
