Rogue Prince – Chapter 311

Only five days left until the release of Volume 2 of “The Incompetent Rascal Prince Wants to Survive”!

Please be sure to check out the afterword as well!!!
“Oops, it’s about to start.”

As Obrul says, Despina and her gladiator opponent take their stances with their swords.
All that’s left is to wait for the referee’s signal, but…

“It’ll probably be an instant kill.”
“Nah, nah, you never know.”

Obrul replies, but he probably agrees with me, right? As proof, he’s been grinning ever since.

And then.

“Begin!”
“Eh!?”

At the same time as the referee’s starting signal, Despina closes in on the gladiator in one fell swoop.

“Damn it!”

The gladiator desperately swings his sword, but she’s already gone from that spot.
As expected of an event boss in EnHaza who boasts enough speed to attack three times in one turn. It’s only natural that mob enemies can’t compete.

“Well, Despina is from that Leopard race, so that’s to be expected.”

Obrul mutters with a chuckle.
That’s right… she’s one of the few beast-kin characters in the world of Engage Hazard.
There are technically beast-kin heroines among the heroines, one each from the cat-kin and wolf-kin races, but their numbers are overwhelmingly small compared to demi-human races like elves and dwarves.

I don’t know if the EnHaza production staff simply didn’t like beast-kin heroines, or if there’s another reason, but kemono lovers would have wanted more.
Me? I’m not a kemono lover, but it’s not like I dislike them, or anything?

“Ah.”
“It’s over.”

While I was thinking about that, Despina’s Kukri Knife had caught the gladiator’s throat.

“I, I yield.”
“That’s it! Winner, Despina!”

When the referee raises the victory cry, the audience’s excitement reaches its peak, and not only cheers but also various things fly into the Colosseum.
Thanks to that, trash is raining down on my head. Damn it.

But.

“…Isn’t the use of Blessings (Gifts) prohibited in the rules of this gladiatorial combat?”
“Despina is special. After all, she can use her Blessing (Gift) even with a Collar on, unlike you.”

So Obrul answers, shrugging his shoulders.
As far as I saw, Despina used two skills.

One is Shukuchi. It’s a skill that instantly closes the distance with the enemy, and in EnHaza, it always results in a preemptive attack.
The other is Kagerou. This is a skill that delivers a physical attack without the enemy noticing, making defense and evasion impossible.

So… if I were to fight Despina, my proud defensive techniques, honed with Sandra, wouldn’t work at all, and I’d be defeated in an instant.
If there’s any saving grace, it’s that there’s less risk of being killed like in the current match, I guess.

“This match was just a demonstration. In the real match against you in ten days, she won’t hold back like that. Or rather, you might actually get killed this time.”

He says unpleasant things…
In EnHaza, you only fight Despina in random battles, so there’s no scenario related to her. If she were at least a heroine, I’d know her personality and everything.

“Well, I’ll pray that you don’t die.”
“………………….”

Obrul pats me on the shoulder, and I furrow my brow and turn my face away.

“But, if she uses skills, my defeat is guaranteed, right?”
“Hal?”

Late that night. I mutter while staring at the ceiling of the prison.
Comparing it to my current abilities, I simulate the fight against Despina many times, but I can’t see any chance of winning.

I’ve become able to defend against 90% of Sandra’s attacks in our Special Training, but I also know that’s only because she doesn’t intend to defeat me seriously.
No, even before that, if I were to take even one hit, it would be game over for me at that point.

So… if I can’t defend against Despina’s attack, I’ll die at that point.

“If only I could fight with Caz…”

Even though my physical defense is boosted by the Title Kongo Fuhai, Harold’s original stats mean I can’t even take damage when fighting an event boss.
If I had the Jet-Black Shield Caspary, which boasts the greatest defense in this world, I could withstand some damage even if I took a hit.

More than anything, I have no means of attacking without Caz.

If I could convert my Dark Attribute to Light Attribute like when I fought Themis, I could use the Dominator and Eliminator… but either way, it’s impossible with this Collar on.

“Mew… Hal, can’t you sleep…?”

Oh no, I seem to have woken her up.

“Just a little. Don’t worry about it, Caz, get some rest.”
“Okay…”

After nuzzling me, Caz falls asleep again.
Looking at my partner, I feel a little relieved.
