World of Sandbox – Chapter 318

Chapter 318: The Importance of Manual Labor

<The Tree>, engaged in the development of the Demon Forest, had broken through approximately 6km from the forward base built just before the Demon Forest.
Here, following a proposal from the Chimyera Clan, who were jointly advancing, it was decided to construct a fortress.

“…………”

“Neun-dono. The surrounding area has been swept clean. I’m returning the squads to normal patrol, is that alright?”

Neun-Iris, who had been watching the display at the foot of the command vehicle, turned to face Patriarch Turanta, who had spoken to her.

“Understood. No suspicious movements have been detected. I judge there to be no problems.”

“Hmm.”

The Chimyera Clan communicate with each other in ways that <The Tree> cannot detect. Presumably, they are using Magic (Fantasy).

Turanta, who seemed to have remotely instructed the personnel reassignment, nodded and approached Neun’s side.

“The hill is a good location. If we build a solid wall, we can attack unilaterally.”

“We’re blessed with the terrain. If we advanced a few more kilometers, there would have been mountains with even better conditions, but this is the limit of our advance for now.”

“That’s right. It’s not the time to push ourselves yet.”

The <The Tree> unit, having secured a small hill, deployed multiple Multi-legged Tanks on the summit to establish a defensive posture, and then began sweeping the surrounding area. They worked together with the Chimyera Clan to ensure safety.

Currently, they are in the process of cutting down trees to secure construction land.

Of course, they are nervously confirming that there are no Monsters lurking underground.

“But truly, your construction capabilities are wonderful. We alone would not have been able to advance this far in the first place.”

“It’s the same for us. We alone would not have been able to get this far without burning down the forest.”

Thanks to the joint operation between <The Tree> and the Chimyera Clan, the breakthrough of the Demon Forest is being carried out very smoothly.
The automatic machines of <The Tree> are responsible for labor, maintaining the defense system, and transporting supplies, while the Chimyera Clan carries out the extermination of Monsters that become obstacles and the reconnaissance of the surrounding area.

This division of roles fits together very well, enabling rapid deployment.

Currently, the maintenance and escort of the road passing through the Demon Forest is mainly handled by the Chimyera Clan.
The various facilities installed by <The Tree> were protected by regular patrols and the extermination of invading Monsters.

The immediate goal will be to establish buffer zones on both sides of this main road, and ultimately minimize the patrols of the Chimyera Clan.

“The frequency of Monster intrusions has not shown any major fluctuations so far. However, I cannot judge whether to take this as normal or abnormal.”

“Hmm… Ah, I see. The number of discoveries and exterminations per day, is it? I understood it intuitively, but it’s much easier to understand when it’s presented in this way.”

Turanta nodded repeatedly as he looked at the graphed data. The number of Monsters or ordinary animals detected and the number of engagements. Their 1-week moving averages were flat lines, almost impressively so.

“Currently, the territorial disputes in the surrounding area have not yet settled down. The Monsters pushed out by our advance are scattering while fighting. A certain number of those pushed out are invading our controlled territory. Well, I think it will decrease in a few weeks.”

“Understood. If any fluctuations are observed, I will consult with you again.”

While replying, Neun waved her finger and changed the display to the design drawing of the fortress.

“Now then. For now, this is the planned fortress. Laser turrets will be deployed at the top of the hill, mainly for aerial警戒. From there to the hillside, anti-ground attack turrets will be installed. The living quarters will be built underground. Living facilities will be below the hillside. The outermost perimeter will be a wire mesh barrier to ensure visibility.”

“Wire mesh, huh. That’s good, it’s strong and doesn’t block the view. I didn’t think we could eliminate the wall because there are so many Monsters crawling on the ground.”

If a wall is constructed with base materials such as Concrete, strength can be ensured, but it becomes difficult to observe small Monsters. In particular, if they were to attach to the base, problems such as holes being made without being noticed were anticipated.

Therefore, it was decided to adopt a structure of deploying multiple wire meshes for the purpose of temporary restraint, and laser incineration of the wire mesh and rapid reinstallation when in contact with the enemy.

It is less effective against giant masses such as boars, but this is dealt with by dozer-type automatic machines. At worst, they can be blown away by firing with an electromagnetic projectile cannon (coil cannon), so it was judged that a strong wall was unnecessary.

“All that’s left is to relocate the Barrier generator installed in the Holy Capital.”

And the highlight of this fortress.

It is the removal and relocation of the huge Magic Stone and its structure that deploys the Magic Barrier, which is installed in the Holy Capital of the Prawa Theocracy.

“The Holy Wall, huh. We only know it as a record. I’m sorry to trouble you.”

“No problem. If the relocation is completed, we may be able to add similar structures in the future.”

The huge Magic Stone installed in the center of the Holy Capital, and the biological organs extending from there to the entire city. Digging these out, transporting them, and installing them in this fortress.

Such a proposal was made by the Chimyera Clan.

Originally, the Holy Capital seems to have been a forward city built as a shelter for the citizens. As its power expanded, it moved away from the front lines, and its purpose was completely forgotten.
It was set as a pilgrimage route as a religious symbol, so it wasn’t that it had become useless.

“After all, we couldn’t use our heavy machinery. It would become the target of the Barrier’s protection.”

“I see. It rejects anything that harms itself. Your machines probably can’t convey the intention of repair.”

And.

They are currently starting the relocation work, but a problem has occurred.

When they try to dig out the buried biological organs or destroy the wall with heavy machinery, a Barrier is generated.

The Holy Capital is a city where many residents live.
It seems that daily repair work, building demolition, and expansion and remodeling can be carried out normally.

However, large-scale construction by <Paraiso> is rejected in every case.

Apparently, destruction with the intention of repairing the wall is permitted, but destruction without intention, such as using heavy machinery, is rejected.

Therefore, they have now started a project to gather laborers and dig through the wall.
Even then, if they simply try to dig it up without understanding the intention, it will be rejected, so it is necessary to properly convey the purpose of the construction, which is a subtly troublesome situation.

“It’s a phenomenon that’s hard for us to understand.”

“…You can’t use Magic (Fantasy), can you? Yet, to be able to operate something like this is worthy of respect…”

For the Chimyera Clan, for whom the existence of Magic (Fantasy) is commonplace, the automatic machines handled by <Paraiso> feel strange. Despite not using any magical effects, they are much stronger and sturdier than the Warrior Monks.

Of course, from <The Tree>’s point of view, the Warrior Monks, who perform the same functions as automatic machines that have reached the pinnacle of technology, are nothing more than a threat.

“At least, we will take responsibility for this relocation work. I have a feeling that we could do something if you worked directly…”

“Our numbers are small. It is impossible to carry out the construction of the entire Holy Capital with our hands alone. Well, it will be a public works project for the people of the Theocracy, there is no problem.”

In fact, they had obtained verification results that construction of the Holy Capital was possible using Communicator Dolls.
However, in the first place, Communicator Dolls are not suitable for physical labor. Moreover, all of the Communicator Dolls currently operated by <The Tree> are girl-shaped. If they were adult male-shaped, there would still be a way to do it.

“If we can deploy the Holy Wall at this Fortress, the safety of the development will increase dramatically. We should be able to move our main force here. That would make it easier to rotate the Warrior Monks and make training more efficient.”

The Chimyera Clan also seems to want to move their headquarters to the front line as soon as possible.

For them, the closer they are to the Holy Land, the more it leads to increased motivation.

There are reasons given for why a civilization based on Magic (Fantasy) is medieval European-style, such as civilization not developing because it is too dependent on individual technology, which is nice.
Having a plausible reason is very important.
