Episode 24: “Colored” Slime
Yuma clutched his head. If the red slime from yesterday had “Fire Resistance,” it wouldn’t be strange if this blue slime had “Cold Resistance.”
But if cold didn’t work, he couldn’t stop its movements with the Cooling Spray.
That was more troublesome than fire not working.
“Hmm, what should I do?”
Yuma tentatively used “Metallization” and entered the hole. The blue slime immediately pounced.
A metallic sound rang out. As expected, the “Colored” ones seemed aggressive.
When he tried to scorch it with the Gas Burner, it frantically ran away.
“It still hates fire, huh?”
Yuma exited the hole for the time being. Since he couldn’t cool it, he couldn’t apply fire.
But to defeat this thing, the power of “Fire” was absolutely necessary.
“It’ll be a bit of a large-scale operation, but should I try it?”
Five minutes after “Metallizing,” Yuma returned to his original body, went into the house, filled a bucket with water, and brought it out. He sprinkled water around the hole to prevent the fire from spreading.
Then, he brought out the kerosene he used in winter from the shed.
“Please work~, if this doesn’t work, I’m out of ideas.”
After evacuating Mamezou to a safe place, he poured kerosene into the hole. The blue slime seemed bewildered by the liquid flowing in.
He poured in a considerable amount and threw in newspaper to help it burn well.
Yuma lit the paper he brought with a lighter, and the crackling paper began to burn as he tossed it into the hole.
The paper fell, fluttering, to the bottom of the hole. The fire spread all at once. The hole was covered in flames, and a pillar of fire rose.
Smoke also billowed out, making Yuma nervous about whether his parents would notice.
The blue slime inside the hole tried to escape but couldn’t get out.
It was engulfed in flames.
Ten minutes later—
When the flames subsided, he peeked into the hole and saw the slime in a corner of the blackened ground.
Its shape was distorted, and its surface seemed tattered.
Yuma entered the hole, crouched down, and swung the Hammer he was holding. The blue slime shattered into pieces and disappeared as sand.
“Phew, I managed to defeat it somehow.”
Looking, he saw a blue stone lying where the slime had been. Yuma tried to pick up the stone, but it was still too hot to hold.
Using his sleeve, he pinched it up, and after brushing off the soot, a vivid metallic blue color caught his eye.
Yuma immediately went to the kitchen, washed the “Blue Demon Ore” with water, and swallowed it.
“I can pretty much guess the effect.”
After returning Mamezou to the garden and putting away the Gas Burner and other tools, Yuma returned to his room and activated his Metallization ability.
He sprayed Cooling Spray on his blackened arm.
“As expected, it’s not cold at all!”
He didn’t feel any coldness on his arm. This meant he had also gained resistance to cold.
If he could overcome the weaknesses of metal, fire and cold, wouldn’t he be almost invincible while Metallized?
Thinking about that, Yuma prepared to go to school.
Defeating the blue slime had taken so long that he would be late if he didn’t hurry.
If “Colored” ones appeared for two consecutive days, they might appear tomorrow as well. Yuma left the house with such expectations.
And the next morning, it became reality.
“Oh? Huh? A golden slime?”
There was definitely a color, but it looked like the golden Metal Slime he had seen before. He thought he didn’t need this anymore, but upon closer inspection, something was different.
“This… isn’t it yellow instead of gold?”
Observing it with a Flashlight, it seemed subtly different from gold.
Metallic yellow, perhaps? In any case, he decided to defeat it. He “Metallized” and endured the intense onslaught, then cooled it down and scorched it with the Gas Burner as usual.
So far, so good. But it didn’t crack the surface after a few tries, so he had to repeat it seven or eight times.
“Is it really a golden slime after all? But it’s as strong as the red and blue slimes.”
When it was tattered, he swung the Hammer. As usual, Demon Ore dropped.
He picked up the rolling Demon Ore and looked at it, but it still felt somehow different from “Gold Magic Ore.”
“Oh well,” he thought, washed it, and swallowed the Demon Ore. He didn’t feel any different.
In the end, he didn’t know if it was the same as the gold slime or not.
