Episode 38
Countless hordes of monsters were descending.
In such a situation, the guards protecting the city couldn’t afford to relax, but the altitude was simply too high. Magic seemed to be fired from the ground or the top of the outer walls, but unfortunately, the distance made it hardly effective.
Before long, the monsters arrived above Desroah Academy and immediately began to dive all at once.
“This is… a bit bad, isn’t it?”
The school was already a scene of utter chaos. No one had expected that the entire horde would target a single point.
All I could hear were screams, shouts, monster roars, and the sound of magic impacts. And then… the school broadcast started. They seemed to have decided on a policy of barricading themselves in the Practical Training Buildings prepared for each grade. The most robust building was probably chosen.
Forty students per class, five classes, totaling two hundred people. It would be a bit cramped, but there was enough space to accommodate all the students.
As for the battle situation, it was impossible to tell. Being on the roof limited my field of vision, and even trying to sense them with ki, there were too many to make sense of it.
I could tell that teachers and some students were fighting back, but I couldn’t tell if they were putting up a good fight or being cornered.
“Gya gya gya gya―――Gya?”
I chopped down a monster that pounced on me with Iron Severing Palm. I used the technique because its appearance made me hesitant to touch it directly, but in this situation, not having a sword is a bit of a problem. I left it in the Boys’ Dormitory because there’s no opportunity to use a sword in everyday school life, but should I go get it?
It’s a Cursed Sword that tightens my heart every time I see it, but losing it would tighten it even more. I should go retrieve it before the monsters ransack the dormitory.
I jumped off the roof and moved stealthily through the shadows, trying not to be seen by students or monsters. This looks like an important event, so I don’t want to distort the original flow of the story too much. Originally, Geld shouldn’t even exist in this academy anymore.
“Oh, they’re at it, they’re at it.”
From the bushes where I was hiding, I saw the teachers lined up to block the corridor, showering the monsters with magical barrages. They kept firing magic while retreating little by little… eventually, they would retreat to the Training Room. It was a surprisingly well-coordinated action, considering it was a sudden event.
While the monsters were distracted by the teachers, I moved even more stealthily from bush to bush, and then to another shadow like a cockroach, and finally, I was almost in front of the Boys’ Dormitory.
“Ah, no… well, hmm.”
Just then, a male student, probably having been left behind, staggered out of the dormitory. Maybe he was absent due to illness. A monster noticed him, and he was done for. I instinctively tried to go help him, but I reconsidered, thinking that the protagonists would conveniently show up here and do well.
…No, maybe I don’t want to help him that much. He’s just a stranger, and a guy at that. If he’s a man, he should cut through it with his own strength.
“Oh, good, good. You can do it, you can do it. Alright, there. Do your best, do your best…!”
This monster isn’t that strong. Anyone with level ten should be able to defeat it easily. The only question was how his poor health would affect him, but the male student showered the monster with a preemptive magic attack, disrupting its stance, and then won with a barrage of rapid-fire attacks.
“He won…! Not bad. That’s the kind of man I expected.”
Having heard the earlier school broadcast, he walked towards the Practical Training Building with unsteady steps. He’ll probably make it somehow in that condition. Even if he’s in a pinch, someone nearby should be able to help him.
Still, the monsters are a bit weak. What’s the point of bringing in trash that can be defeated by a sickly, exhausted kid?
After the students finished evacuating and I entered the dormitory, where there were no signs of monsters, I took a breath and reconsidered. Despite the flashy appearance of the large-scale attack, the quality of the monsters was just low. If the teachers and students united and fought back, they could probably hold out until proper reinforcements arrived from the outside.
“Ah, it’s because it’s an early event.”
That’s right, I forgot, this was an early event. If strong monsters came, there would be no room for the protagonists to shine. In that case, there’s no need for me to interfere.
“Still, those guys left something terrible behind in the end…”
I entered the room and retrieved the Cursed Sword. It’s painful to use, but I can’t throw it away. It’s truly a curse.
But anyway, I’m no longer worried about it, so I went out the window and climbed up to the roof of the dormitory along the wall. Idiots and smoke seem to like high places, so I must be smoke.
“Hmm, it’s still chaotic.”
It was difficult to grasp the situation from the roof of the school building in the middle of the academy grounds, but from the roof of the dormitory on the edge, I could overlook the entire area.
From here, it seems that most of the students have finished evacuating, but the area around the Practical Training Building, which is the evacuation site, seems to be the most fiercely contested.
Besides, some students who were left behind or decided to fight bravely were flashing magical lights here and there, engaging with monsters.
Especially that blue-haired student, Millie, is surrounded by a group of monsters. The Birdman Boss, who seems to be the boss, is also there―――
“Huh?”
The roof broke from the shock of jumping, but that must have been the monster’s fault. It must have been broken from the start.
Having decided that, I arrived on the roof almost directly above where Millie was surrounded. I want to jump down and strangle those monsters to death and make a blood offering, but I really have to hold back this time.
As expected, when the heroine is in a pinch, it’s the protagonist’s turn. The villain can’t barge in.
“Ah, no. But… still, ahhh.”
Apparently, the monsters’ policy is to slowly torment Millie, so even though they’re surrounding her, they’re not attacking all at once. At most, two attack at the same time, and Millie is desperately fighting back while gradually getting hurt.
“What are you doing, you lustful bastard…! Hurry up and come save her…!”
Millie’s movements are gradually becoming less precise. She’s probably tired from being attacked in succession, and since she’s surrounded by about twenty monsters in total, the mental burden must be great. If she thinks that she won’t be saved even if she defeats the monster in front of her, it’s over.
“Ahhh, crap! That idiot… Millie’s bleeding…! Ahhh, again! Guh, guh guh…”
That Harem Bastard took two hours even when I kidnapped her, so why is he being so slow? Even now, Millie is being cornered like this… Is he really going to show up at the last minute? Even so, it looks like she’s being cornered to the point where it’s really dangerous… Or rather, even if that harem group is all together, can they win against the monsters here? I don’t think they can stand a chance against that Birdman Boss… Millie finally dropped to her knees. There’s no time to spare.
“Ah, no, not yet. There’s still a possibility… No, even if they come, they can’t win. Even if they come, it’s just a losing event… In that case, I―――”
