Adventurer Life of Exiled Marquis – Chapter 4

Chapter 4: The Carriage Journey with the Exiled Marquise’s Daughter 4

I hopped down on the side hidden from the forest’s view and ran lightly parallel to the carriage for a moment.
I felt the stiffness in my muscles loosen, and at the same time, I confirmed the sensation of Magicka flowing to my extremities.
Alright, I can do this.
Putting strength into both legs, I broke into a run.

Dirt kicked up by my feet flew into the air behind me.
Apparently, skilled adventurers don’t dig up the ground with their feet even when running at full speed, which just goes to show how inexperienced I still am.
But my speed seemed to pass muster, as I heard the Coachman let out an impressed voice from far behind me.

Flustered by me suddenly bursting out from the carriage’s shadow, several figures emerged from the forest.
Three of them.
That’s a bad move, I thought.
It seemed I wasn’t the only one who thought so, as I heard voices from within the forest cursing at the three who had jumped out.

Despite being cursed at, the three men who jumped out tried to aim their bows at me.
They completely misjudged my speed and the distance between us.
Carefully controlling my strength, I slammed my fist into the first man’s abdomen.

The look on the man’s face the moment I hit him—as if he couldn’t comprehend why I was suddenly right in front of him—strangely stuck in my mind.
Was it because if I had misjudged my strength, this might have become my first kill?

Pushing thoughts of the man’s life or death to the back of my mind, I moved onto the next man without stopping my feet.
And then the next.
Just as the third man collapsed to the ground, arrows flew from the forest
