Profession: Tailor – Chapter 19

Day 18: Kepi Cap
Logged in for the 18th day.

Takenaka-san’s request was for a navy blue version similar to the [Female Captain Outfit Set], and also for me to make a male version to go with it.

“Eh? Are you going to wear both of those, Takenaka-san?”

Don’t tell me I lack tact. I mean, come on, if I have an image of the wearer, I can make a better design, right?
Well, I blurted it out on impulse, so I guess I really do lack tact.
But ignoring my flustered state, Takenaka-shi laughed magnanimously.

“No, no. I was thinking of making the female one a gift.”

A-a matching outfit?!
You mean to tell me he has a lovely lady he plays Kima-Kura with? Is he planning to flaunt his fulfilling real life even in the game by wearing matching outfits?
However, it’s also true that because it’s in-game, it’s far less cringeworthy than daring to wear matching outfits in real life. Outrageous, truly outrageous.

Still, that means one of the outfits will be for someone I don’t know…

“Um, I’d like to use it as a reference when thinking about the image for the clothes, so if it’s alright, could you send me a screenshot of that person? Or, if you could tell me their characteristics… like hair color, or their general vibe.”
“Hmm… I’d rather not tell you, for now… If I had to say, you can just imagine her as a peerless beauty… Well, it’s fine. If you make it generally in the style of your clothes, Boutique-san, there shouldn’t be any problem. Besides, she can pull off any kind of fashion.”

Uwaah… he’s bragging about her…
What’s this about not wanting to tell me? Is it like, he wants to keep her all to himself, or something?
I never thought I’d take this kind of damage even within Kima-Kura… This is why I hate interacting with people. I want to go home. Sniffle.

Well, despite that heart-breaking exchange, I did end up getting 1 million in exchange for Trash, after all.
Moreover, he gave me materials, a Pattern, and as an extra service, some handcrafted parts made by Takenaka-shi himself. He even said things like, “Please, feel free to use them. I like your designs, Boutique-san, so if you have anything good in the future, I’ll be sure to buy it.”
Hmm, he’s fundamentally a good person. But he’s the kind of good person that makes me somewhat reluctant to call him a good person, you know?

Well, anyway, while making outfits for a couple is extremely against my will, it can’t be helped, so I’ll make them seriously.
Incidentally, Takenaka-san also offered to pay for the production costs. I firmly refused that, though.

Now, in addition to being navy blue and for a couple, there was one more thing he requested: this [Kepi Cap] Pattern & Recipe book I received.

Putting the Pattern aside, Recipes are itemized as books, huh. This is the first time I learned they can be transferred.
It seems Items like Recipe books and skill books can mainly be obtained at bookstores. However, I hear they’re one of the Items that are quite difficult for beginners to get their hands on.
I’m truly indebted to Takenaka-shi. I don’t really want to bow my head to him, but I just can’t help it.

So, he wants me to change the Bicorne to this Kepi Cap—a cylindrical hat with a visor, the kind Western soldiers might wear—and make the outfit. I’ll start by making this, as it’s likely to be the centerpiece of the coordinate.
I’ll do a test stitch with [Sheeting Cloth], confirm “Hmm, hmm, so it’s like this,” and then move on to assembling the parts.

What he gave me to use for buttons are rounded, diamond-shaped gold buttons.
As usual, they have Takenaka-shi’s handcrafted carvings on them, and let me tell you, they’re amazing.
At first glance, they look like just intricate geometric patterns, but if you look closely, it’s a design of overlapping bamboo. I’m impressed by how well he blended the strongly Asian motif of bamboo into a Western style.

Incidentally, the Item name for these was [Sun Gold Button (Bamboo)]. If I recall correctly, [Sun Gold] is the highest-tier material for [Gold], right?
The buttons I use for my jacket and hat are ordinary [Gold Button (Fleur-de-lis)], and just buying four of them wiped out half my savings.
That’s why the buttons I use for other parts of the outfit are [Brass Button (Gold-plated)], but in contrast, Takenaka-shi sent over a total of 20 Sun Gold designer buttons. Plus, 20 smaller, uncarved pure gold buttons.

He even said things like, “If you don’t have enough, just let me know and I’ll send more,” so yeah, Takenaka-shi really does seem to be quite rich.
Well, that makes sense. He’s the kind of person who can casually spend 1 million on [Trash], after all.

Now, for the Kepi Cap, I’ll decorate the border between the side crown—the cylindrical side part—and the visor with a green ribbon and gold braid.
Then, on the edge of one side of the visor, I’ll adorn it with a bamboo button and two [Alto Canary Feathers]. These Alto Canary Feathers came in vermilion and yellow, but I dyed them gold and green.
This will be the hat for his girlfriend.

For Takenaka-shi’s hat, instead of feathers, I embedded a larger, stud-like version of the bamboo button on the front of the side crown. I figured it would create a better balance if his girlfriend’s was a bit more ornate.

The fabric I’ll use is [Spider Ester (Thick) (Navy)].
It’s a sturdy, thick fabric that doesn’t wrinkle easily. It might be something like polyester in this world.

I’ll use my skills to assemble it, and with that, the hat is complete. I’ll do the rest tomorrow.

[Kima-Kura Utopia. Official Talk Room – Carpentry Discussion Thread]

[YTYT]

Renovation complete.
This ‘Intelligent Yakuza’ build is competent and good.

[Twister]
A master… there’s a master among us…

[Milan]
The way the garden blends in with the townscape is nice.
And you’ve handled Danamas, a difficult material, so well.

[Kiki Sakamoto]
The Royal Capital is tough because all the buildings and the city are integrated, right?
Those who ruin the scenery should just drop dead.

[Shinji]
I wouldn’t mind at all if they did it in an inconspicuous place at the edge.
Even if you report a complaint, it takes time, so it’s just a cat-and-mouse game.

[Laia]
>>YTYT
Awesome.
Even if you told me it was the default townscape, I wouldn’t feel anything was out of place.
I wouldn’t realize it’s a player home, so I’d probably try to enter the premises thinking it’s a normal pathway lol.

[YTYT]
The garden is open, so you can pass through.

[Ebi Komachi]
That’s practically town-building at that point lol.

[Shinji]
Danamas is difficult because it has a particularly strong character among the three cities.
For Byakuya, you can just go with a Japanese style, and Restin is cluttered, so pretty much anything goes.
Danamas requires a complex sense of unity.

[Milan]
Archaic, modern, fantastical neo-ruins cluster—that’s Danamas.

[Choregi]
Don’t you think that sounds weird, even as you’re saying it?

[Twister]
But it is a fact.

[Peet]
>>YTYT
Wow, I wanted to build something like this.
The spiral staircase surrounding the home is really cool.
Maybe I should build in Danamas too.
But I already have three homes…
Should I pay for another, or demolish one… Ahh, I’m torn…

[Kiki Sakamoto]
Maintaining three, I’m so jealous.

[Choregi]
1,000 yen per month for each additional one, huh…
It really adds up.

[Ebi Komachi]
Considering some people spend tens of thousands of yen a month on gacha in social games, it’s cheap.
Being able to have up to 6 bases in Kima-Kura makes it a true utopia for housing enthusiasts.

[Kotarou]
If you include clan homes and such, you can have even more.

[Laia]
But do you really need that many?
Once it’s complete and you’ve enjoyed it for a while, just take a screenshot and renovate it again.
Two is enough.

[Choregi]
No dust accumulates, no bugs appear, no deterioration.
You can never have too many vacation homes like that, right?

[Milan]
Hmm, considering a real-life rental locker costs two or three thousand yen a month,
a thousand yen a month just to maintain the data for one home is quite a lot.

[Ebi Komachi]
It’s not like they’re charging money just for data retention, you know.

[Peet]
I wish they’d make it a one-time purchase, even if it’s 5,000 yen upfront (ToT)
When I can’t play due to work, I really can’t, so it feels empty having money sucked away every month for a game I’m not playing.
Honestly, the system where your home gets taken away if you don’t log in for half a year also feels a bit pressuring.

[YTYT]
Then you should probably just go to Kogu.

[Peet]
I play Kogu too, but Kogu as an MO and Kima-Kura as an MMO are completely different things.

[Banshuu]
What’s Kogu?

[Kiki Sakamoto]
Kodomo no Kuni.

[Banshuu]
Ah.

[Kotarou]
In terms of freedom, Kogu is overwhelmingly better.
But Kima-Kura has a unique enjoyment in mastering housing within the limits of landscape preservation.

[Mietteooo]
Ehh, the Landscape Preservation Law sucks.
Let us build meme architecture freely!

[Shinji]
Go back to the countryside.
