Chapter 41: A Private Talk with Liese
《Serios’s POV》
After the Duel, I took Liese back to her room and had her lie down in bed.
“I pushed you too hard.”
I stroked Liese’s head and wiped the sweat from her forehead.
“Thank you. I like you too, Liese.”
I was able to confess honestly to Liese, who was losing consciousness.
♢
After dinner, I went to check on Liese again. It seemed Faina had helped her change, as her pajamas were different from before.
However, her fever had gone down, and when I knocked, she answered. A slightly perplexed voice came from inside the room.
“P-Please, come in…”
“Excuse me.”
When I entered the room, Liese was sitting on her plush bed. The Fireplace was burning quietly, and a calm atmosphere, enveloped in its Warmth, filled the room.
She looked at me with a tense expression.
“Lord Serios… Is something the matter?”
Her slightly flushed cheeks revealed that she wasn’t fully recovered yet. But I found that appearance of hers strangely endearing.
“No, I just came to see how you were doing. I was worried you might be pushing yourself.”
Liese smiled and gently shook her head.
“Thank you. I’m alright now. I’m just Feeling a bit sluggish… Thank you for the Medicine. It was the same with my Mother, but I’m sorry, Medicine is so expensive.”
“Don’t worry about it. It’s because I care about you.”
When I told her I cared about her, Liese smiled happily.
“Thank you very much!”
At her words, I sat down next to her. The warm Light of the fire illuminated her gentle expression.
“If you’re Feeling sluggish, get proper rest. You always push yourself too hard.”
I drew closer, my shoulder supporting hers.
“I’m happy that Lord Serios is worried about me.”
Saying that, she rested her head on my shoulder.
The Warmth of her head… I worried she might hear my pounding heart, which only made it beat faster.
“…Why do you work so hard?”
When I asked, Liese lowered her gaze slightly. Then, she smiled, a little shyly.
“Because… being useful to Lord Serios is my greatest Happiness.”
My heart skipped a beat. How could she say something like that so directly?
She lifted her gaze, the Light from the Fireplace making her eyes sparkle, and I almost averted my eyes reflexively.
“Th-That makes me happy, but I don’t want you to push yourself and collapse. If you’re not well, I’ll be worried sick.”
At that, Liese blinked in surprise. Then, she touched her faintly flushed cheeks.
“Me being well… is that for Lord Serios’s sake?”
“Of course it is!”
My voice got a little loud, and I hastily swallowed my words. But Liese was covering her mouth and smiling.
“…Lord Serios, it’s rare to see you blush so much.”
“You’re the one making me do it!”
Although I retorted reflexively, seeing her smile, I couldn’t help but feel like I was the one being teased.
My gaze wandered as I turned towards the Fireplace. Then, I heard a faint voice from beside me.
“…Lord Serios, you really are that worried about me, aren’t you?”
“I told you, of course I am.”
I said with a small sigh. At that moment, a sweet scent wafted from beside me.
Liese leaned in a little, resting against me.
“Then, please let me indulge myself a little…”
“…!”
I thought my heart was going to explode. Her slender body touched my arm. For her, who was usually so reserved and dependable, to be so openly dependent like this…
I gently moved my arm and touched her shoulder, as if to support it.
“Are you okay? …If you’re feeling unwell, don’t push yourself.”
“I’m not unwell. Being like this… makes me feel at ease.”
Her soft voice whispered near my ear.
Not knowing where to look, my gaze wandered. But seeing her face faintly flushed red, a smile naturally escaped me.
“It’s good that you feel at ease, but… this is making my heart pound.”
When I murmured that, she looked up in surprise. Then, quickly averting her gaze, her cheeks turned even redder.
“I-I’m sorry… Am I bothering you…?”
“How could you be a bother!”
Saying that, I placed my hand on her head. And then, I gently stroked it.
She looked a little surprised, but she soon closed her eyes, her expression peaceful.
We stayed like that, spending time quietly in front of the Fireplace.
A time of unparalleled Happiness.
(When she gets better, I want to take her to many more places.)
Thinking such thoughts, I continued to gently stroke her soft hair.
Wishing this moment could last forever.
