I Wandered the Dungeon’s Depths – Chapter 4

Chapter 4: The Worst Older Sister (Shifa’s (= Former Fiancé’s Younger Sister) Perspective)

“Onee-chan, what is the meaning of this?”
“What’s wrong, Shifa?”
I couldn’t forgive my older sister for banishing Lux-san.

After Lux-san left, I went to the Adventurer’s Guild to confirm.
To confirm what Onee-chan and Jekyll had done to Lux-san.

Transferring party rights to the next leader in the case of an estimated death is unavoidable.
It’s a system that was reluctantly put in place because if someone actually remained missing, it would hinder the activities of the surviving party members.

Just hearing about it makes anger well up inside me, but since they’re already operating with Jekyll as the leader, it’s just a matter of formally transferring the title.

But an engagement doesn’t automatically get broken off, and stripping someone of their citizenship is outrageous! And where did Lux-san’s personal assets even go?
And on top of that, she’s pregnant with Jekyll’s child?

I feel nothing but disgust and nausea.

“It’s about Lux-san! Why did you banish him? And a child with Jekyll, of all people?!”

I’d heard that Jekyll was a man who had been forced to do menial tasks for a band of thieves that “Senko” subjugated long ago.
Apparently, that band of thieves had been involved in kidnappings, and after they were annihilated, everyone who had someone to take them in was handed over.
Even so, Jekyll alone had no relatives, and he himself wanted to follow them. They said they let him join the party thinking he might be useful since he was a Thief.
And yet, he betrayed them.

“You wouldn’t understand. Adults have their own complicated affairs.”
“Don’t treat me like a child!”
I hate how Onee-chan tries to brush off my questions like that.
She’s always been like this.
I liked Lux-san more than she did, yet she knew that and still snatched him away.

All under the pretext of “protecting the town’s future.”
If that was the case, then I would have been fine too, wouldn’t I? Even if I thought so, I was treated as “the girl injured in the Stampede” and was sheltered in the mansion like a doll.

Lux-san, too, was earnestly facing the fame and role he had gained in this town, so I gave up.
Thinking that I’d at least like to be able to watch over him from nearby, I somehow convinced Father and started working at the Guild so I could support adventurers.

And yet, Onee-chan betrayed Lux-san. In the first place, being pregnant now means she did it while she was engaged to Lux-san, right?
Isn’t that the lowest form of cheating?!

“Isn’t that enough? Don’t dredge up things that are over. He left, didn’t he? That’s the end of it.”
I was dumbfounded by her utterly selfish argument.
To unilaterally hurt Lux-san like that.

Do you hold some kind of grudge against Lux-san?

Against Lux-san, who protected us for three whole years?

I instinctively clutched the Omaori Amulet Lux-san had given me.

“That’s the Omaori Amulet Lux had, isn’t it?”
“…”
I glared at my sister in silence.

“Say something. It is, isn’t it? Then hand it over. It’s been decided that all his assets are to be transferred to me.”

Smack!

I slapped my sister with all my might.

“What is it? If it makes you feel better, then go ahead and hit me. I’ll heal anyway. Claire, if you please.”
“Yeees.”
My sister said this with an expression devoid of any emotion.

The person standing there was no longer the Onee-chan I knew.

“Claire-san, you saw it, didn’t you? The moment Lux-san fell.”
Giving up on conversing with my sister, who wouldn’t listen, I asked Claire, the mage of “Senko” who was following my sister.

“You know my position, don’t you? I’m a mage. I was following from the rear, but in a dimly lit dungeon, even if something happens up front, I can’t see the fine details.”
But it seemed Claire had no intention of answering my question.

She just uttered some careless words while fiddling with her necklace, looking bored.

That necklace… it was Lux-san’s, wasn’t it…?
He was wearing it when he saved me.
If I recall correctly, it was a magic item with a “Mana recovery effect.”

He was supposed to have deposited it in the Guild’s storage because wearing multiple magic items can sometimes negate their effects.
He had asked me if I wanted it because he’d gotten a more effective item and didn’t need it anymore, and I refused.
The truth is, I really wanted it, but I refused because it was clearly beyond my station as someone who wasn’t even an adventurer.

Unbelievable.

This woman… and my sister too.
Jekyll as well…
They’re all in on it.

They took advantage of the situation that suddenly arose and snatched away everything that was Lux-san’s.

Lux-san is an adventurer from a foreign land who traveled around various places.
I’m sure he said he had relatives in a neighboring country.

If that’s true, all his assets should belong to those relatives. No, he wasn’t dead, so everything belongs to Lux-san.
They used the law… even used the authority of the acting lord to seize it all.

Unforgivable…

Having lost all trust in anyone, I quietly returned to my room.

My sister and Claire probably had no interest in me anyway; they didn’t even bother to look as I left.
Not at me, crying while clutching the Omaori Amulet…
