Adventurer Life of Exiled Marquis – Chapter 172

Chapter 153: The Dagger is Short, the Light Pierces, and the Flame Runs 4

Erica was showing Lou Memphis around the inside of the Guild.
The Guild was a large building, but there weren’t that many places adventurers could actually enter.
Nevertheless, the two of them were chatting quite cheerfully.

Right now, they were talking while pointing at the paper posted on the Guild’s notice board listing the Designated Subjugation Targets.
Shara, standing nearby, looked utterly exhausted, so maybe they were talking about the time they subjugated the Forest Dragon.

I was curious about what they were discussing, but I wouldn’t go so far as to use Physical Enhancement just to eavesdrop.
Besides, the Guild was noisy right now, so I probably wouldn’t be able to hear them clearly anyway.

The unfortunate adventurers who happened to be in the Guild were being made to help clear away the Iron Plate that had blocked the counter.
The sound of the giant crank turning, the gears grinding, and the voices of the Guild Staff shouting instructions made it incredibly noisy.

“That was foolish.”

“Please don’t say it.”

Lana said, covering her face with both hands.

“Shouldn’t you be helping?”

I asked, watching the other Guild Staff gathering the scattered documents.

“I was told to keep Longdagger company.”

Ah, so basically…

“My disciple, shall I introduce this amusing Guild Staff member to Master?”

A sacrifice to Iniquity?

“No, I’m just a humble Guild Staff member.”

Lana looked utterly terrified, just like when we first met, and I felt sorry for her, so I couldn’t help but interject.

“Master, shouldn’t you be working?”

The look Lana gave me, like she’d just seen a god, was painful to watch.

“Indoors, it’s better to leave it to Elza, right?”

I averted my eyes at Master’s accurate point.
It’s not that Master is bad at holding back or controlling her strength.

In fact, you could call her an expert.
But, when it comes to reacting instantly, she’s not exactly perfect.

It’s not a matter of skill, it’s because she tends to think, “Oh well, close enough.”
Master’s “Oh well, close enough” often translates to “As long as no one dies, it’s fine.”

In other words, if we need guarding indoors, Elza is the better option.
I gave up. Sorry, Lana, but it’s impossible.

“This is Lana, the Guild Staff member who’s taken good care of me since I came here.”

At my introduction, Lana made a face like she’d seen the despair of this world.
I understand how she feels, but Master isn’t that bad, you know?

Actually, hasn’t Lana met Master once before?
Before I arrived in Hecate, I’m pretty sure Master and Elza asked—no, threatened—her to “take good care of me.”

“Lana, have you met Master before?”

Lana vigorously shook her head in response to my question.
Her eyes clearly said, “How could that possibly be true?”

“No, didn’t you say Master asked you to look after me when I came to register as an adventurer?”

“Ah, that was by letter,”
Master answered my question.

“I had a job at the time, you see, and didn’t have the free time, so I sent a letter.”

As I’ve said many times, Master is actually serious about her work itself.

“I included a Dragon’s fang as a little tip, though.”

Master casually said something outrageous.
“That ended up being rather rude to a Guild with such Guts, didn’t it?”

Master reflected on it like that, but the recipient (Lana) muttered under her breath, “So that wasn’t a threat…”
Well, if “Kind Barbara” sends you rare materials, I suppose it
