Adventurer Life of Exiled Marquis – Chapter 84

Chapter 80: The Impoverished Viscount’s Second Son Searches for Eyes 2

*

Having spent the night in the Library, I headed for the counter first thing in the morning.
Incidentally, spending the night in the Library is a common experience for adventurers.

It’s not particularly unusual for rookie adventurers, especially after finishing a job, to fall asleep in the Library.
Today, too, about three adventurers had nodded off.
Of course, since there are no beds, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Naturally, there’s no benefit for an adventurer, whose body is their capital, to abuse it.
I felt this keenly as I stretched my aching back.

“So, I’d like a quest that feels right, if you have one.”

“You have no intention of taking off the Mask, do you?”

Lana no longer even tried to hide her exasperation.
While I wondered if that was appropriate for a Guild Staff member, I was grateful to Lana for flipping through the bundled quest documents and searching for me.

Perhaps understanding my intention, she refrained from demanding who I was.

“Specifically, what do you mean by ‘feels right’?”

“Money.”

Lana tilted her head.

“The reward? Forgive my impudence, Longdagger-sama, but if you need money, we are prepared to pay out the Subjugation reward for the previous Designated Subjugation Target. And the success reward for the designated request from the church as well.”

I shook my head. Also, don’t call me Longdagger.
So she didn’t grasp my intention, she just assumed it was me? Well, it is me, but still.

Those rewards were earned together with Erika.
It wouldn’t mean anything unless it was money I earned entirely on my own.

“I don’t know whose reward that is, but I cannot accept it.”

“Huh?”

Lana, occasionally showing her airheaded side, gave me a look that said, ‘What is this guy talking about?’ which stung quite a bit.
But still, right now, I am not Shin Longdagger.

“Err, well, hmm? I assume there must be some circumstances involved, because if you were wearing a Mask for no reason at all, I’d just think you’d reached the pinnacle of weirdness.”

This girl doesn’t hold back.

“Thanks to a certain someone, a massive amount of Magic Stones and materials were brought in, which inevitably led to various quests being completed as well. I’m not sure what level of reward you’re hoping for, but there’s nothing higher than the reward for that certain someone I mentioned… the one I just offered.”

It was the answer I had half-expected.
But what did she mean there was nothing higher than the Forest Dragon, even among Designated Subjugation Targets?

Even if strong Monsters didn’t spawn as easily here as in Faltar, this place was still near the Demon Realm.
There had to be something.

“Are there no Chimeras or anything?”

I mentioned a famous Monster often left alone as a Designated Subjugation Target in Faltar.
Incidentally, the biggest reason it’s left alone is that my master, who hunts Designated Subjugation Targets to kill time, doesn’t care for it.

I don’t like them either, by the way.
They’re just troublesome. They’re tenacious in a different way than Dragonkin, which possess overflowing Magicka and abnormal regenerative abilities making them hard to kill completely.

I don’t think I could finish one off alone either. If I were to target one, I’d need Erika.
Erika…

“Guh!”

“Whoa! Could you please not suddenly mention an ominous Monster’s name and then spit blood!?”

I instinctively clenched my back teeth, but with such force that I shattered them.
I healed them with Healing Magic, then cleaned up the blood with Purification Magic.
“For the record, there are no Chimeras,” Lana added, leaning back slightly.

“I see.”

Well, I hadn’t expected to conveniently find a suitable quest at the Guild anyway, so it didn’t hurt much. That’s why I’d rummaged through materials in the Library; I still had a plan.
As I thanked her and started walking towards the exit to leave the crowded early morning Adventurers Guild, Lana called out from behind me.

“Please come pick up the reward we’re holding for you soon! Your wife can come too!”

“Guhuu!”

Having bitten clean through my tongue, I sprayed blood like a Fountain.
