Adventurer Life of Exiled Marquis – Chapter 97

Chapter 93: The Impoverished Viscount’s Second Son Searches for Eyes 15

People sometimes misunderstand, but Physical Enhancement doesn’t ignore the laws of physics (as much as you might think).
Basically, if something huge and heavy charges straight at me, my lighter body will naturally get sent flying.

When a Dragon the size of three carriages charges head-on, you have to redirect the impact somewhere to avoid getting blown away.
I learned that technique back when I was Rank 1, after getting sent flying by Shield Boars time and time again.

In short, use the ground.
I’ve always been the theoretical type.

Thick Scales overlap at the tip of its jaw, perhaps intending it as a ram.
I have to laugh at myself for trying to take that head-on.

The gear enhanced by Physical Enhancement, which didn’t even break against the Ogre Knight’s fists, fulfilled its duty this time as well.
But the impact pierced through it, crushing my lungs, making my throat rasp unnaturally, and the ground where I redirected it caved in.

Still, no broken bones this time, so it’s better than before.
Healing can wait.

I pour Magicka into the two Magic Circles.
Even this clearly uncontrollable power feels reliable right now.

After all, I don’t need to worry about the details.
Letting out a wordless roar, I lifted the Jewelhead Dragon and hurled it away.

My lungs, healed with Healing Magic, exhale.
For a moment, I thought I saw Azure Flame mixed in my breath. Am I starting to see things from being too far from Erica?
No, Erica’s flames would be red.

The Jewelhead Dragon convulses on the ground from the impact of being thrown and the damage from its own weight.
It’s easy to forget when dealing with Dragonkin that regenerate even after being decapitated, but Monsters are living creatures before they turn into Magic Stones.

Its whole body must be in agony. Are its insides scrambled?
Right then, just as I draw my Sword for a follow-up attack, several adventurers emerge from the forest.

The Bearded Man’s partner, Yuunou-san, rushes over to my side with impressive speed.

“What in the world? No, I can see what happened, but did the Masked Man do this? No, more importantly, where’s Drim?”

Out of that triple barrage of questions, I answer the one he probably wants to know most.
So the Bearded Man’s name is Drim, huh.

“Beardy’s over there helping the carriage.”

Yuunou-san glances towards the carriage for a moment and clicks his tongue.

“Why isn’t that idiot running?”

“I kinda like that idiocy of his.”

My lighthearted remark earned me a fierce glare.

“Annoyingly enough, so do I!”

With that, Yuunou-san called out to the adventurers who hadn’t fully grasped the situation yet.

“Anyone who isn’t an idiot capable of fighting a Jewelhead Dragon for more than five minutes, go help the carriage! Those of you self-aware enough to know you’re idiots, come here! We’ll buy time with the Masked Man! There’s no time, hurry!”

Perhaps because he’d been the one to spread the word in the forest, no one complained about Yuunou-san giving orders.
Two adventurers respond to Yuunou-san’s call and approach.

Ah, this is awkward.
If they help me, I’ll have to split the reward.

I speak up as Yuunou-san starts assigning concise and precise roles to the two adventurers and me—roles simple enough for even a hastily formed party.
Seriously, this guy really is competent. Why is he partnered with the Bearded Man?
Wondering about that, I open my mouth.

“Sorry, but I don’t need any help.”

All three of them looked at me like I was an idiot.

“I can’t split the reward. That’s why I’ll defeat it myself.”

My unspoken message was for them to hurry up and deal with the carriage.

“So, Masked Man, you intended to defeat it all along?”

One of the ‘idiots’ Yuunou-san had called over, the Gaunt Man, said with exasperation.
As I nod, the other ‘idiot’, the Bald Man, speaks up.

“Someone like you, Masked Man, could earn money doing anything, right?”

“I need the jewel. I want to give my wife a ring.”

The two idiots glance at each other.

“Is the Masked Man’s wife some princess or something?”

The Gaunt Man’s jest held a slight hint of sarcasm.

“Not at all. She’s simply the greatest woman in the world.”

When I reply to his jest with the honest truth, the gaunt idiot breaks into a wide grin.

“I like you! Bragging rights at the tavern are reward enough. I’ll help you out, Masked Man!”

“Right, you were always the devoted husband type,” the Bald Man says, readying his blunt weapon that doubles as a staff.
The two idiots look at Yuunou-san.

Yuunou-san, who had been dumbfounded since my declaration about doing it alone, yelled out in a trembling voice.

“The density of idiots here is too high!”

As if in response to those words, the Jewelhead Dragon roared.
Besides, Yuunou-san was the one who called those idiots over, wasn’t he?
