Chapter 27
The great hall was swarming with so many goblins it was ridiculous to even try counting them.
In the center was a goblin clearly larger in build than the others.
“This is bad. We need to retreat immediately.”
Brother Fahrenheit’s decision was swift, but a group of goblins was also approaching from our rear.
“Brother Fahrenheit. I’ll handle the front, so please protect our rear.”
As I said that, I began preparing to cast an advanced-tier spell.
My training with Netzal wasn’t just for show.
I envisioned an infernal landscape.
I could cast it without an incantation, but to ensure its effect activated more reliably, I chanted the spell’s name.
“Inferno!”
Since a single shot couldn’t cover the entire room, I cast Inferno multiple times in succession.
I succeeded in taking out the surrounding goblins all at once, but being the boss, the Goblin Lord was still perfectly fine.
I closed the distance using Swift Thunder Footwork, then used Quick to swap my usual sword for the gear I used back in my gaming days, and slashed at it.
The Goblin Lord slashed at me with the greatsword it held, looking annoyed, but I dodged it with a backstep, used Quick to switch to a spear, and thrust.
Having gained some distance, the Goblin Lord used its special ability to summon more goblins, but I immediately unleashed Fire Arrows with multi-casting, creating a one-on-one situation.
The Goblin Lord, moving surprisingly fast for its large frame, closed the distance and swung its greatsword, but I switched my weapon to a sword and parried it away.
Perhaps it hadn’t expected its attack to be deflected, as a large opening appeared, so I switched to an axe and slammed it with Martial Skill: Slashing Break.
It left a large gash on its torso, but there was still no sign of it going down.
Switching to a dagger, I focused on evasion while inflicting numerous small wounds.
It was now afflicted with the Laceration status ailment.
Little by little, it had the effect of chipping away at its health over time.
Many bosses are resistant to status ailments, but Laceration is one of the few that’s effective against most of them.
Perhaps finding it annoying, the Goblin Lord started rampaging wildly.
I calmly kept my distance and showered it with the intermediate-tier spell, Firestorm, using multi-casting.
The Goblin Lord’s body was scorched and festering, and it was staggering.
Judging that I could finish it off with just a little more, I switched my weapon to a katana and slowly approached, ready to commit to an attack at any moment.
Bringing the Goblin Lord into range, I stepped in and unleashed a single strike with Iai Slash God Flash.
Due to the recoil from using such a major skill, I experienced a brief moment of stiffness, like zanshin, but the Goblin Lord’s body crumbled from the torso, dissolving into particles.
Left behind were a larger-than-usual magic stone as proof of its defeat, various dropped items, and the greatsword the Goblin Lord had wielded, now stuck upright in the ground.
