Black Steel King – Chapter 255

Episode 254: Resurrection Magic

In the courtyard of the Supreme Court, a body placed in a storage bag was laid.

Arranged by Dasha, a Seeker who had died a few hours prior was brought here.

Yuma stood before the body, letting out a small sigh. Dasha, Kaira, Rui, and Akito were around him, and officials from the Indian government were also watching how things would unfold.

Yuma crouched down, opened the storage bag, and confirmed the body inside.

It was a male Seeker in his thirties who had been injured in a battle with Monsters. He had been receiving treatment in another town, but he had breathed his last this morning.

Although his left leg was missing, his condition was relatively good.

Since he had been fighting Monsters, it wouldn’t be strange for him to have more external wounds. It should be sufficient to try Resurrection Magic.

Yuma closed his eyes and put his hands together.

If this succeeded, he would immediately return to Japan and revive Kaede. Yuma suppressed his racing heart and held his hand over the chest of the body.

“Please… let it succeed.”

He concentrated his mind and activated “Recovery Magic.”

A dazzling light overflowed from his palm, and particles of light rose into the sky in a string. The beautiful sight astonished Dasha, Kaira, and the government officials who were watching.

“Is it really… possible to resurrect a dead person?”

Dasha stared intently at the scene before her with a bewildered expression.

Kaira still couldn’t believe it, and she watched the situation with skepticism. However, if it was Mitaka, who transcended common sense, perhaps he could do it.

Thinking that, Kaira silently watched.

Ram and the other government officials watched with dubious expressions, but when the strong light overflowed, cheers of “Ooh!” arose.

The light gently enveloped the lying body.

As the crowd watched, the Recovery Magic continued for several minutes. As the light gradually converged, Dasha and Rui became tense.

If a dead person were truly resurrected, it would be a transcendent magic that overturned the laws of nature, the common sense of this world, and everything else.

Even after the light disappeared, Yuma didn’t move. As everyone watched with bated breath, Rui stepped forward.

He walked up to Yuma’s side and called out to him over his shoulder.

“How is it? Yuma, that person…”

Yuma remained silent and looked down, but after a while, he shook his head slightly.

“…It’s no good. He won’t come back to life. No matter how much Magical Power I pour into him, nothing happens.”

Yuma, looking frustrated as he bit his lip, said in a barely audible voice. When Rui peered at the body, even the wounds on his body hadn’t healed.

“It can’t be helped. Originally, Recovery Magic is said to maximize a person’s [healing ability]. A dead person can’t use their healing ability.”

Those were words that denied “Resurrection Magic.” Rui didn’t want to say it either, but he couldn’t find any other words to say to Yuma.

Dasha, Kaira, and Akito also rushed over.

When she was informed of the failure, Dasha only said, “I see,” and Kaira made a complicated expression.

When Ram, who arrived later, learned that the Resurrection Magic had failed, he sighed and said, “I see, it didn’t work.”

“It is regrettable, but after all, reviving the dead is an act of God. It is a natural result. We also have reports to make, so we will excuse ourselves. The government is considering how to reward you for your contributions, so we will contact you again. Well then–“

Ram and the other government officials got into a black Limousine and left the courthouse.

Yuma was stunned for a while, but was urged by Rui to return to the hotel where they were staying.

◇◇◇

“Don’t get down on yourself. It’s not like it’s been decided that it’s impossible to revive her, right?”

Akito, sitting on the sofa, turned around and called out. Yuma was lying on his back on the bed, sprawled out and looking at the ceiling.

He hadn’t said a word since returning to the hotel and was lost in thought.

Rui, unable to bear seeing Yuma like that, said, “For now, drink this,” and handed him the plastic bottle he was holding.

Yuma raised his head slightly and said, “Ah, thank you,” then sat up and accepted the bottle.

With an absent-minded expression, Yuma opened the bottle and sipped the water inside. Seeing this, Rui sighed softly and sat on the edge of the bed.

“Yuma, as Akito said, it hasn’t been decided that “Resurrection Magic” is impossible yet. In the first place, we don’t know what kind of magic the Second Stratum of Recovery is.”
“The Second Stratum of Recovery…”
“That’s right, Yuma! Your ‘White Magical Power’ should be over 20000. If that’s the case, you might be able to use not only the Second Stratum but also the Third Stratum of Recovery Magic, right?”

Asked by Akito, Yuma was startled.

Certainly, Recovery Magic had been strengthened, but the magic itself hadn’t changed. Something different from normal Recovery Magic might happen.

“Let’s try it.”

Yuma jumped up from the bed. Then, he felt dizzy and staggered.

“Huh?”

He couldn’t stand up and plopped down on the bed with a thud.

“Are you okay? Yuma.”

Rui rushed over in a hurry.

“Ah, yeah… I feel a little dizzy.”
“It’s probably because of the effect of healing your right arm with Recovery Magic.”
“Eh? The effect of healing my right arm?”

Yuma looked at his right arm. It was still a little thin, but it moved without any problems. How could this lead to dizziness?

While he was confused, Rui began to speak.

“Recovery Magic repairs wounds, but it can’t create skin or blood. So, the bones and flesh that make up that right arm are taken from Yuma’s body. You haven’t noticed it yourself, have you? That you’ve lost a little weight.”
“Eh? Is that so?”

Yuma raised his waist again and went to the washroom. When he looked at his face in the mirror, he certainly looked haggard.

“Is this why I felt dizzy…? Does that mean I’m malnourished?”
“That’s right. Let’s eat first.”

When he was told that, he realized that he was extremely hungry. If he didn’t have the physical strength, he wouldn’t be able to maintain his concentration, and he wouldn’t be able to use magic well.

First, they decided to order room service and fill their stomachs.

◇◇◇

“Ugh~ I can’t do it anymore. I can’t eat any more.”

So many dishes that they seemed to overflow were lined up on the round dining table that Yuma and the others were surrounding.

All of them had been eaten, and Yuma was leaning back in his chair, stroking his full stomach.

“–Even so, you ate a lot. Won’t you be unable to move for a while?”

Akito raised one eyebrow and looked at Yuma. Akito and Rui had also eaten, but they hadn’t eaten even half as much as Yuma.

Rui also looked at Yuma, who was burping, with an astonished expression.

“You should rest a little. Shall we try the magic tomorrow?”

Yuma, who had a painful expression, reacted with a twitch.

“No, I’m fine. I’ll try the magic right away.”

Yuma raised his heavy waist and stepped in front of the table. He faced his palm forward and concentrated his mind.

Light immediately overflowed from his hand.

Recovery Magic was easier to use than “Fire” or “Water.” If that was the case, it wouldn’t be strange if he could use the Second Stratum of “Recovery Magic.”

Thinking so, Yuma further increased his concentration.

Then, the light overflowing from his palm began to change. As he kneaded the light as his heart desired, it changed into something unexpected.

“This is…”

Yuma widened his eyes in surprise. It was short, but it was definitely in the shape of a Longsword.
