Chapter 379: A Special Measuring Device
Just as Yuma and the others were guided to the command room, Mia and the Prometheus Seekers arrived en masse.
When Yuma glanced at them, Mia and the others wore strangely stiff expressions.
—What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?
As Yuma pondered this, a person sitting at the back of the room called out.
“We shouldn’t talk while standing. Please, have a seat.”
Yuma and Akito were wearing earphone-type translators, so they could understand the person’s words.
Receiving the polite invitation, the three of them sat down on the sofa. Albert stood beside the sofa, while Mia and the other Prometheus Seekers lined up near the entrance.
On the sofa opposite them sat an elderly man in military uniform.
The man introduced himself as Charles. He was the commander of this base, apparently an Air Force General.
“First, I want to express my gratitude. You defeated our arch-enemy, the Yellow King. It’s no exaggeration to say that you saved America from destruction. Thank you so much.”
Charles, who usually had a stern face, broke into a smile.
Yuma, feeling awkward, scratched his head and said, “N-no, it was nothing.” He wasn’t used to being thanked. Feeling a bit ticklish, he averted his gaze.
At that moment, he met Albert’s eyes near the window.
He was smiling with his usual gentle expression.
“I heard you’re collecting White Magic Gems.”
“Ah, yes!”
Abruptly getting to the main topic, Yuma turned his gaze back to Charles.
“The White Magic Gems have been sent from military headquarters. Hey, bring them here.”
“Yes, sir!”
A soldier standing in the corner of the room nodded and approached them.
He was carrying an attaché case in his right hand, which was handcuffed to his wrist.
It seemed they were managing it with utmost care.
The attaché case was placed on the low table in front of Yuma and the others, and the handcuffs were removed using a key. The lid of the case was opened, revealing its contents.
Yuma and the others couldn’t help but lean forward.
“Wow! There are so many White Magic Gems! This is it, this is it! This is what we were looking for!”
Akito exclaimed with joy, and Yuma and Rui smiled as well. Inside the attaché case were a large number of diamonds. Each one was large and shone beautifully.
“Please, feel free to pick one up.”
Urged by Charles, Yuma said, “Alright,” and reached out his hand.
The inside of the case was lined with black velvet fabric, on which the diamonds were arranged. Yuma picked up one of the diamonds and examined it closely.
It was indeed very beautiful. Being so large, each one radiated a considerable amount of Magical Power.
Besides the diamonds, there were other Magic Gems in the case. There were indentations on both ends of the case, with several transparent fiberglass bags in them.
Inside were White Magic Gems, probably Rock Crystals and Zircons.
“What’s the total Mana Index of all of these?”
When Yuma asked, Charles folded his fingers and smiled.
“Combined, the Mana Index would exceed 26,000. This is almost all of the White Magic Gems currently in America.”
There were more Magic Gems than initially expected. Yuma thanked him, saying, “Thank you very much,” and returned the diamond he was holding to the case.
“There are other things we’ve gathered as well.”
At Charles’s signal, another soldier brought in two attaché cases. He placed the not-so-large silver cases on the table, opened the lids, and showed them the contents.
“Wow! As expected of America!”
Akito exclaimed with joy, leaning forward. Inside the cases were Magic Gems of various colors.
Yellow, red, green, and even blue gems. Although there were fewer diamonds, there was a considerable amount of other Magic Gems.
“This is our… America’s expression of gratitude. We’ve heard that you’re defeating Monsters all over the world. Please, make good use of them.”
“You’re being too generous. I won’t hesitate to take them.”
While wryly smiling at Akito reaching for the Lightning Magic Gem, Rui thanked Charles.
Yuma also gazed at the case containing the White Magic Gems with deep emotion. With this many Magic Gems, it might actually be possible to use Resurrection Magic.
While filled with hope, there was one thing he was worried about.
“But, can I even absorb this many Magic Gems with my current capacity?”
He had swallowed the Yellow King’s Magic Gem without thinking too much about it.
He had also swallowed the Demon Ores of the Boss Varlin and the Hercules Beetle, so he wasn’t sure if he had enough Mana.
Sensing Yuma’s anxiety, Rui spoke up.
“Are you worried about Mana?”
“Yeah, there’s a possibility that I might be running out of ‘Colorless Mana’.”
“I see. Your Mana Index probably increased after defeating the Yellow King and the Great Ape, but… the Mana you’re using is probably more than the Mana you’re gaining…”
Listening to their conversation, Albert stroked his chin and opened his mouth.
“Worried about your Mana Index? Then you should measure it.”
Yuma turned his gaze to Albert.
“I appreciate it, but there aren’t many Measuring Devices that can measure my Mana Index…”
Hearing that, Albert chuckled.
“Come on, this is a Measuring Device that can even measure my Mana. It’s completely different from the usual ones. You should give it a try.”
Yuma and the others exchanged glances. There had been cases of special Measuring Devices being created, like Aisha’s.
Yuma agreed with Albert’s suggestion, deciding to use the Measuring Device at the Air Force Base.
◇◇◇
“Whoa~ It’s huge!”
Yuma exclaimed.
It was a vast space like a hangar, but there was nothing else besides the enormous Measuring Device placed in the center.
Yuma and the others walked up to the Measuring Device and looked up at the gigantic apparatus.
It was a machine over three meters tall, with a large Ring at the top. It was a Measuring Device they had never seen before. Akito’s eyes sparkled with excitement, and Rui touched the device with great interest.
Albert said, “Wait a moment,” and began to touch the control panel next to the device.
It seemed he was operating it with that panel.
Besides Albert, Mia and the Prometheus members had also come to the room.
—Why did everyone come? Are they interested in my Mana Index?
As Yuma was puzzled, Albert called out.
“Alright, it’s ready. Go inside.”
Looking, Yuma saw that various parts of the Measuring Device were glowing, and the metal fence in front of it opened to the left and right.
Yuma swallowed hard.
