Black Steel King – Chapter 6

Episode 6: Infinite Slime
The next morning, I woke up to Mamezou’s barking from the garden.

“What is it…?”

Yuma sluggishly got out of bed and opened the curtains. The light streaming into the room pierced his sleepy eyes.

“Ugh, seriously! So noisy.”

From Yuma’s second-floor room, he could see the backyard where Mamezou was. Opening the window and looking down, he saw Mamezou barking at something.
Yuma reluctantly went downstairs and headed to the living room, which led to the backyard.

“Yuma, Mamezou is being so loud. I wonder what’s wrong?”

His mother, who was making breakfast in the kitchen, asked with a dubious look.

“I’ll go check it out.”

He went out to the veranda, put on his sandals, and walked to the hole he had covered with cardboard yesterday. As expected, Mamezou was barking at the hole.

“It’s this guy again…”

He removed the stone he had used as a weight and peeled off the cardboard. Looking into the hole, he could see something moving. Yuma went back inside to grab a Flashlight and returned to the hole.
Shining the light into the darkness, he saw the guy he had seen so much of yesterday.

“You’re back again, Metal Slime!”

He had certainly heard that Dungeon Monsters would revive eventually, but did that apply even to such a small Dungeon with only one of them…? He didn’t want Monsters in his backyard all the time, but if they just revived the next day, there was no point in defeating them, right?
Yuma thought it was a pain, but then he realized something.

“Wait a minute! If I defeat it once a day, won’t it eventually drop a Magic Gem? A Magic Gem from this rare Monster could be worth a hundred million!”

He had heard that the drop rate for Monsters was about 1%. If that was the case, he could get a Magic Gem in 100 days if he defeated it every day.
Yuma went back into the house, slightly excited.

“How was it? Mamezou?” his mother asked worriedly, but Yuma said, “Oh, it was nothing. Don’t worry,” and went to his room.

He pulled out the Gas Burner and Cooling Spray he had used yesterday from the closet and headed to the backyard with a cheerful look.
Ignoring Mamezou’s barking, he stuck his hand into the Hole.
Spraying the Cooling Spray, the Metal Slime wriggled its body and tried to jump away, but its movements gradually slowed down.
Its entire body turned white, freezing and stopping its movement. “Alright, alright,” Yuma nodded, then pointed the nozzle of the Gas Burner at the Slime and pulled the ignition trigger.
Blue flames shot out, scorching the Metal Slime’s body. Its body turned bright red, and the thawed Slime began to move again.
Yuma repeated the cooling and heating process once more, and cracks appeared on the surface of the Metal Slime’s body.

“Ah! I forgot the Hammer…”

Looking around, he found a slightly larger stone.
He picked up the stone and slammed it into the Metal Slime. In an instant—the Slime’s body shattered into pieces.

“Yes!”

The metal fragments turned into black sand and eventually disappeared.
“Same as yesterday,” Yuma thought, shining the Flashlight around.

“Hmm, still nothing…”

The Magic Gem he wanted was nowhere to be found. Thinking it wouldn’t be that easy, Yuma crawled out of the Hole.

“Mamezou, I’ve taken care of the Monster for now. But it might come back again tomorrow…”
Yuma stroked Mamezou’s head as it whined, “Kuuuhn,” and returned to the house.

“Could my luck be turning around? If I defeat the Metal Slime once a day, I might get a fortune.”

Seeing Yuma grinning to himself, his mother wore a puzzled expression.
