Chapter 227: The Bath on the Tower
I finally returned to my tower and took a moment to breathe.
More and more employees have started requesting their salaries in sweets. It’s gotten to the point where even regular folks, not just Changelings, are asking for their pay in confections. I should be providing the sweets I bought from Naruadeid as snacks to those who didn’t request them, but…
It feels a bit strange that most of them are older than me, yet when I hand out the treats, it turns into something akin to a children’s festival or a daycare event.
I’ve welcomed the first wave of settlers who wanted to move here even before the water was drawn. Since this isn’t a large island, there are fourteen families in total, including Changelings living in the town.
The requests for relocation were primarily gathered through Naruadeid. If farmers were to move away, it would mean losing taxpayers who are barely scraping by. In that regard, that island, being a commercial and trading hub, is quite convenient. Many people originally came here to make a name for themselves, while others had to leave due to business failures.
No matter how skilled one might be, maritime ventures can lead to a swift downfall if a ship sinks. The people who passed the scrutiny of Soleil and Kin are reliable. Those sailors who couldn’t stay on land due to their criminal pasts have been filtered out without mercy.
It seems that the main businesses, like inns and salt shops, will be entrusted to the first wave of newcomers. Soleil handles negotiations and various procedures with calm precision, but the moment work is done and there’s no one around except for Faramia and Kin, he collapses and cries out, “No wayyy!”
Maybe I should have Karn take on the role of lord from time to time. If he shows up occasionally, it’ll look like he’s always around—he was a king, so he should be perfect for the job. In a place like this, with a castle and independence, would it be called a lordship? There are also small lords without castles, just territories. A king should have lords and small lords under his command. There must also be royal domains and direct territories! Yes, he’d be perfect, perfect.
—But it’s already known to the original residents and employees that I’m the lord, and once my tower is complete, it’ll stand out too much, so it might not matter much.
Lost in thought, I climbed the stairs to the top floor. Stretching my neck a bit, I peeked down at the waterway below, where water was gushing out, overflowing as it hit the wall, heading toward my tower.
“Alright then.”
I set a magic stone into the pipe marked with a magic circle for drawing water.
Immediately, water began to flow from the pipe, filling the narrow waterway. There was a hole right next to the pipe that led to the kitchen.
The remaining water was directed toward the bath, but before it flowed into the tub, it split into two paths: one remained as water, while the other passed over the glass shards I received from Van, turning into hot water. I adjusted the width of the waterway a bit to slow down the flow of the hot water.
It’s a continuous flow, after all. I adjusted the cold water flowing into the bath to set the temperature. Any excess water that doesn’t go into the bath will travel through the earthenware waterway, merging with the overflow from the bath and heading to the drainage. I felt a bit guilty about dumping hot water straight into the sea, so this works out perfectly.
Well, it’ll take a little while for the bath to overflow, and I plan to plant some plants that will need the water seeping from the earthenware waterway.
Speaking of which, this world has blue roses just growing naturally. In my original world, they were created through biotechnology, right? The flower language changed from “impossible” to “dreams come true.”
Perhaps because spirits often visit flowers, they take on the colors of the spirits, resulting in a vibrant array. However, they tend to be closer to wild species, with smaller flowers or simple shapes that are rather plain.
So, I pulled some roses from the Pantry that I had planted in the garden. They’re edible roses, so they have beautiful petals and a lovely fragrance, along with some smaller varieties that bloom abundantly, and other flowers besides roses.
When I think of a tower, I imagine vines climbing up the walls. Maybe I should plant wisteria as well. I busily planted them, and after finishing that task, it was time for a bath. Relaxing under the blue sky while gazing at the sea, I watched the occasional sailing ship heading toward Naruadeid.
Oh. I hope there’s no telescope around; that would be troublesome.
I asked the Light and Atmosphere Spirits to distort the view around the bath from the stairs, just in case. With that, I felt at ease. While the bath offers a sense of openness, I’m not keen on being completely exposed.
I’ve heard that the season when dragons fly over the sea is after the flooding of the Es River has ended. It’s still a bit early to expect to see them. But just watching the sea, clouds, and sailing ships is quite soothing.
After enjoying a leisurely soak in the bath, it was time to get back to the renovation work inside the tower. But first, I sipped on some chilled lime-infused sparkling water while munching on cucumbers, lightly seasoned with mayonnaise and miso.
With hydration and a touch of salt, it was time to begin my work.
