Chapter 271: Speaking of Which, That Thing Existed
“There’s already way too much to unpack here…” Dinoss groaned, cradling his head in his hands.
Is it really that much?
“First off, how did it end up being that many? Isn’t it a hassle just to call out their names?”
“The Spirits that come to me are almost on an assembly line. Once I realized I didn’t need to say my thoughts out loud, it sped things up significantly.”
It’s like counting from 20201022, one to ten. The main Spirits are lined up, while the retainers are off to the side, like an automatic serial numbering system for 20201022-1-1.
“Also, recently, some have started writing their names in my notebook on their own.”
“I don’t understand what that means…” The Butler looked perplexed.
“I don’t really get it either.”
I accidentally left it out, and it just kept growing. The Spirit of the notebook has been thriving and looked quite proud, so it seems like it’s become a retainer of sorts.
And honestly, thanks to my imagination, it’s taken on an appearance reminiscent of the Butler, but would I get sued for infringement of likeness?
“How do you communicate without speaking…? Ah, you can use Spirit Language, right? So even without a contract and no connection, you can still communicate…?” Dinoss pondered.
“What is it?”
“Lord Jean, if you don’t mind me asking, do you know the procedure for forming a contract with a Spirit?” the Butler inquired.
“You give a name to the Spirit that wants one. For those that resist, you weaken them first before naming them.”
“Could you elaborate on the steps a bit more…?” The Butler smiled awkwardly.
“You name the Spirits lined up. For the Black Spirits that resist, you just have to squeeze them tightly and give them a name?”
“…” He remained silent, still smiling.
“…The notebook’s Spirit seems to be losing its mind, but I feel like I’m losing mine too. If I think about it, I didn’t even follow the proper steps.”
“Huh?”
“Huh, not ‘huh!’ Normally, you summon them using a Magic Circle, secure the area, and prepare to communicate with the Spirits before naming them! There are cases where you name them after overcoming some trial, but… well, sometimes the Spirit just takes a liking to you and you accidentally name them, but that’s rare!”
“…Speaking of which, I feel like I practiced drawing a Magic Circle to summon Spirits a long time ago.”
“Did you use it? If you practiced, then let’s use it!?”
“No, I couldn’t draw the proper Magic Circle in the end. It’s faster to summon them normally, and I’ve started to learn the handy tools that use Magic Stones.”
It feels like they’re already here, so that was pointless.
“Don’t give up!?”
Dinoss looked like he was about to cry, but it’s not cute when an old man cries.
“What’s this ‘squeeze’ thing with the Black Spirits?” Retze asked.
“The Black Spirits run away, so you have to catch them first.”
“…Physically, huh? Even though they’re Spirits.”
“Even though they’re Spirits, indeed…” Dinoss and Note sighed in unison.
“I plan to study that eventually.”
The Uma had been complaining about it.
“If I study it, I feel like the scale will be too big, and I might mess something up…”
“As an Adventurer, aside from food and shelter, your actions are quite normal.”
“Spirits and magic don’t exist in the world I came from, so I just accepted things as they are. The model for Adventurer activities is Retze.”
When it comes to moving and camping, the concept of camping has a huge influence, and sword combat is influenced by period drama choreography; most of my other models are basically Retze.
“Introducing someone who relies on instincts and wild intuition as an Adventurer would be a disaster. Good job, introducing Retze!”
Dean struck a triumphant pose.
“Well, I’m studying again too.”
Retze ruffled my hair roughly, a slight blush on his face.
“Also, I felt that attack magic seemed dangerous, so I’m quietly observing those who can use it.”
“Just how dangerous do you think you are to make that judgment?”
Retze’s hand stopped, and he squinted at me.
“Was the setup for Mages not a bit off?” Ash asked, looking worried.
“It’s fine, I’ll just imitate the Vice Guild Master with glasses.”
I’ve gathered the types of Spirits nearby too!
“Just keep it reasonable with the light!”
Chris said with a bright smile. His white teeth seemed to shine.
“That all-encompassing light in the mine shaft is convenient, but is it not okay?”
“Yes, yes.”
Dinoss interjected.
“With so many contracts, are you really okay with your Magic Power?”
He asked, looking concerned.
“It takes a lot when naming them, but usually, I’m fine. The Spirits that come running are mostly small enough to fit in my hand. I haven’t let any Spirits that would cause a ruckus get close.”
The Black Spirits resist, so they take quite a bit of Magic Power when naming them, despite their size.
“The contract with the Spirits is a request from the Gods. —What are you contracted with the Black Spirits for? No, before that, I’m curious about the Gods too, but is that a realm I shouldn’t delve into?”
“Well? But since it involves others, I’ll ask if it’s okay to share later.”
“Just asking that gives me a faint feeling that I might not be able to return…”
Speaking of which, the Butler had met Kadal before.
“Are you planning to abandon this guy and return to a safe world?” Dinoss asked the Butler.
“No, I’m talking about the world of common sense.”
“…”
“Hey, there’s no need to all look away at once!?”
I’m just living a harmless, ordinary life, you know!?
