Chapter 289: Gratitude
“You… you’ve got more of them, haven’t you?!” Dinoss exclaimed as soon as he returned.
The room was filled with Spirit, including the Zabuton that had come from the Temple.
“A group was guided here by the guide,” I said. I didn’t call for them. It was all just a misfortunate accident caused by the Light Spirit’s retainer, which prevented them from reaching my house.
The Spirits that Mishto and Haralfa had brought along, along with the Light Spirits I had asked to act individually, created quite the scene in the room. There were so many different types of Light Spirits, I never realized.
Not only were there pure Light Spirits, but many mixed ones as well. The slightly shadowy Moonlight Spirit was particularly beautiful.
Dean and Chris looked around the room with puzzled expressions. Karn was giving me a look that suggested I was the cause of all this, which was quite annoying.
“I don’t get what you’re saying—Note?”
“Out of range.”
“Don’t answer so quickly with that smile. What happened here?”
Dinoss buried his head in his hands.
“Are you saying that the Light Spirits followed us from the Temple? Is that why the room feels so bright?”
Dean seemed to sense the change in the room, even if he couldn’t see it.
“It feels like we’re in a pure space! Even fresher than a brothel!”
Wait, Chris? Is a brothel supposed to feel fresh? Now that I think about it, they do replace all the fabrics every time a customer changes. I guess that makes it a remarkably clean space in this world? …Fresh?
“Just now, two beautiful goddesses named Mishto and Haralfa visited.”
Ash said it nonchalantly.
Dinoss looked at Karn with a face that seemed to have swallowed a stick. Noticing this, Karn raised an eyebrow at Dinoss but quickly turned away in silence.
“Haralfa, the goddess of beauty!”
Dean chimed in.
“Both are goddesses worshipped by women everywhere. —If they were real, they’d probably be worshipped by men instead.”
Chris added from beside him.
“Wait, hold on. Two god-class beings came here?”
Dinoss seemed to have resumed his thoughts after their conversation.
“Indeed.”
Ash nodded.
Dinoss looked at the Butler, perhaps for confirmation.
“Out of range.”
The Butler shook his head slowly, and Dinoss slumped down.
“Well, I guess that happens.”
“That doesn’t happen!!!”
Dinoss shot up and shouted briefly.
“By the way, where’s Retze?”
“Don’t let it slip!?”
For a while, Dinoss couldn’t calm down, while the Butler maintained a pleasant smile.
“Retze is making the rounds. He’ll be back by dinner,” Dean informed us.
“He’s quite diligent.”
“Chris and I are also somewhat well-known, but Retze is the one who can really make things happen in the right places.”
“He did say that once he reached Silver Rank, he’d take it easy with work.”
Chris smiled with a troubled expression, his eyebrows forming a slight crease.
“Don’t make us worry too much.”
Dean wrapped an arm around my neck and ruffled my hair with his other hand.
Now that I think about it, before moving into the Rented House, he mentioned something about getting a wife after reaching Silver Rank, didn’t he?
“Retze is good at taking care of others.”
Ash remarked.
It seemed they were genuinely concerned.
“I’ll do my best not to worry you.”
“You’re being honest!? Are you considering my worries too!?”
Dinoss looked teary-eyed and noisy. It was a bit amusing and made me a little happy.
“I’m grateful to Retze and everyone here. Until recently, I didn’t think I wanted to be around people for long.”
Having fun with others was enjoyable. But somewhere deep down, I thought it wouldn’t last long, so I was a bit surprised at myself for wanting to return to Kanum.
“…You.”
Dinoss murmured and fell silent. A slightly awkward, shy atmosphere settled in—
“Anyway, put away the Light Spirits.”
I didn’t.
“That’s terrible. I was trying to express my gratitude directly for once.”
“It’s coming across, it’s coming across. Just put them away.”
Dinoss urged me on, and I named the Light Spirits to disperse them.
“Hey, what are you going to do about that big one under your butt? And don’t crush the Spirit. Are you trying to catch it?”
“I’m thinking of taking the Zabuton with me to Kanum.”
It’s comfortable, like sitting in zero gravity.
“Hm? Zabuton…?”
“That’s the Spirit that was attached to the Divine Child.”
The Butler answered Dinoss, who seemed to have caught on to the Zabuton.
“Gene, are you sitting on a major Spirit that can even heal injuries!?”
Chris exclaimed dramatically.
“It’s just a Zabuton.”
“That’s an odd way to treat it!”
But it’s just a Zabuton. It’s inconvenient that it looks like just light.
“You just said you wouldn’t make us worry.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll remind the other Spirits not to show themselves in front of people. Oh, but the Gods are a different story.”
In reality, I’ve made sure they can’t come to Kanum’s House.
“The sudden appearance of the Gods is the most troublesome…”
The Butler smiled with a subtle expression, but it was impossible.
