Comfy Mountain Life – Chapter 476

Chapter 476: Companions on the Journey

As I munched on a makeshift ice cream, I watched the two of them. They sure can eat a lot, huh?

Even though we had recovered at the Temple and the medicine’s effects were enhanced by the Spirits, this world is still filled with people who suffer from stomach issues and even lose their lives because of it.

Recently, the habit of drinking tea has spread, and it seems that the number of people with stomach problems has decreased. It’s probably because they’re drinking boiled water instead of raw, but tea has become incredibly popular for its health benefits.

However, people around me, like Haulon and Retze, know that “raw water is bad; drink it boiled.” It’s probably based on experience, but it feels like there’s a huge gap in knowledge in this world. No, maybe it’s more about the difference in wisdom?

And yet, the two who should know better are eating the cold treat I offered. They know that cold things can upset the stomach. They’re even drinking beer, though.

Everyone around me is a good person.

Even Dean and Chris, whom I initially found difficult to deal with. Yeah, I’ve gotten used to the Jaw Spirit too! At first, I didn’t know how to react to the Spirit lovingly stroking its jawline!

When I realized that others saw it as a glowing orb of light, I almost collapsed from shock.

“Haulon, does Chris’s Spirit look like a glowing orb to you too?”
If the Great Sage knows, there’s a chance!

“Well, it looks like a slightly sparkling orb. I can tell it’s a Light Spirit, and it’s definitely more sparkly than the usual ones.”
“Sparkly…”
Is that all?

“When I say sparkly, I mean it in terms of personality and attributes, not strength.”
“Oh, like the morning light or the evening light among the different types of light.”
I understood, but that’s not it. It’s not quite right.

“Exactly. The Spirits you’re connected to, like Dinoss’s Fire Spirit, are relatively easy to see.”
“Alright, let’s strengthen our bond with Chris or Dean!”
“We’re talking about Spirits here, you know? Since Dean has a Fire Spirit, if the Spirit isn’t the type that wants to hide, you might be able to see it eventually.”
Ah… didn’t Haulon have four Spirits without a Light one? I wonder if he doesn’t get along well with Light Spirits.

“That’s amazing! I’ve heard from someone who can see them that they all look like the same orb, just different sizes!”
Chris, as usual, gestured dramatically, his sparkling eyes fixed on Haulon.

“Oh, really?”
“What is it?”
“What’s going on?”
“Just drink this and wait.”
I brought out some wine and snacks, and I got to work.

I’ll write it on… parchment should be fine. The ink is one that works well with Light and Fire. The pen is the glass pen I bought.

While I worked, the two of them sipped their wine. For a while, the only sound was the scratching of my pen on the parchment.

“Is that a Magic Circle to show Spirits?”
“Is it the one your brother used?”
“The one Chris’s little brother used was a Magic Circle to see his own Spirit; this one is for temporarily revealing someone else’s Spirit.”
I wonder how that little brother, who I thought was a Unicorn but turned out to be a white horse-headed Spirit, is doing?

“Wait a minute. The Magic Circle at the Temple is much larger, right? Why is yours so small? Knowing you, it’ll probably still activate, but…”
“I’ve seen several Magic Circles at the Temple and various others elsewhere.”
Mainly at the Spirit Library, though.

I trimmed unnecessary parts and replaced lengthy phrases with symbols I learned at the Spirit Library. If I could write the incantation in kanji, it would be shorter, but the Spirits can’t read that, so it’s no good.

The kanji I infused with Magic Power can be read by the Spirits I named, though. They can read my intent, rather than the kanji itself.

“Alright, it’s done.”
“The flow of Magic Power doesn’t seem bad. I can tell it’ll activate properly.”
Haulon checked the parchment I held up.

“Go on, Haulon, give it a try.”
“I’m interested, but is it really okay for me? Wouldn’t it be better for Chris, who usually can’t see Spirits?”
“If you want to see it, I’ll make one for Chris too.”

“Hmm?”
Haulon accepted the parchment with the Magic Circle drawn on it, looking slightly unconvinced, and began to channel his Magic Power.

“Come on, show Chris’s Spirit!”
“Hmm? …Ugh!”
Haulon made a face as if he had bitten into a sour plum and turned away.

Alright!

“What’s wrong? Is my Spirit a muscular horse too?”
Chris tilted his head, puzzled by Haulon’s reaction.

“No, it’s a cute little girl Spirit.”
She’s just gazing adoringly at her jawline with a dreamy expression.

Now I have someone who understands my feelings! I’ve gotten used to it already!

“Hey! What are you doing? Chris can’t see it!”
“It’s fine. You’ll get used to it.”
“What will you do until you get used to it!!! By the time you do, the Magic Circle’s effect will wear off!”

Haulon is a bit stubborn, but he’s a companion who can clearly see the Spirits. Once I get back, I should be able to see Dean’s too, so I’ll stick around here until I return!
