Chapter 477: Behind the Scenes
“I’m back,” Retze said as he entered.
Not long after, Retze returned. Where are Dean and Dinoss?
“Welcome back, Retze.”
“Welcome home!”
“I’m just dropping off my stuff,” he replied, retreating into the room.
I discreetly hid the Magic Circle beneath me. I had prepared it for Dean, Dinoss, and the Butler, but I was sure Retze would say he didn’t need it. If he found out, I had a feeling my cheeks would be in serious trouble.
“Ugh…” Haulon slumped over the desk, trembling occasionally.
“I think it’s about time you recovered.”
“For me, it’s just about being moved by seeing the Spirits, but the Great Sage must have a lot on his mind,” Chris said, gently admiring the split-jawed love spirit.
For now, I had Chris use the Magic Circle as well. He was sparkling with excitement, looking genuinely happy. He probably only realized that his hand was near his jaw from the angle.
He was interested in other spirits, but he was voluntarily hiding in the living room, knowing he would definitely act suspicious if he went outside.
I thought Chris might be able to see the Light Spirit of the morning sun or something like that. If we went to the Spirit’s Branch, there were various spirits, and I believed some of them would be visible.
But the real focus was on the spirit attached to Dean. I had adjusted the Magic Circle specifically for that!
“Clearly, my own spirit is also clear…”
“Huh? Wasn’t that visible?”
Or was it Chris’s own spirit? What?
“I could see it! Whenever I was doing something, when I transferred magic power, or when I consciously tried to look! But if I didn’t try to see it, it was usually wrapped in a faint glow, and I could see this world through it! I couldn’t see clearly like this, like Fandor stepping on Egima!” Haulon exclaimed, lifting his face abruptly.
The spirit attached to Haulon was the vibrant Fandor, with petal-like hair, a dwarf spirit with a red hat and earthy skin, the Pale Blue Robed Spirit, and a spirit resembling an Ittan Momen.
The one being stepped on was the Ittan Momen; so that’s Egima. Is it not okay to be an Ittan Momen?
The spirit of the vice guild master of the Fortress City was also sneaking bites when the person wasn’t looking, so spirits can be quite mischievous, taking advantage of their invisibility to play pranks.
Fandor was probably doing this thinking Haulon couldn’t see him.
And then Haulon slumped down again.
“Is it that opaque? As expected of the Great Sage! I can see a little bit through it!”
Chris praised Haulon, gesturing animatedly.
It seemed that the visibility differed depending on the amount of magic power or perhaps because they had already seen it before. I might need to set conditions in the Magic Circle to make it clearer.
But it would be inconvenient if it blocked my view without being transparent; there were four Haulons around me. I adjusted how much I could see depending on the location, like in the city.
“By the way, is there any news about Karn’s arrival?”
I asked Haulon, who was still slumped over.
“King Tildonai is currently in a certain area of Nakahara for a while. He’s assessing what’s needed for the founding…”
“Oh, so he’s active now that it’s warmed up.”
He wouldn’t move from in front of the Fireplace when it was cold.
“You sure have a way of making things sound very common.”
Retze entered the living room.
“Just a feeling. You must be tired.”
“Welcome back. Did work go well?”
“Sort of… but it seems Haulon is more tired than I am,” Retze said, glancing at Haulon, who was clinging to the desk.
“So, what happened?”
He asked as he sat down.
“I was just having Chris look at his spirit.”
“You’re really obvious when you have something to hide,” Retze said, giving me a sidelong glance.
Damn it. Politeness, I need to be polite. But it just slips out…!
“Chris is also making eye contact with Gene to see if it’s okay to talk.”
“Huh?” I looked at Chris, and our eyes met.
“Ugh… Even though it’s so common and fluffy, it still hurts me…”
Haulon slowly sat up.
Your hair is a mess, you know?
“Balmoa… bring Dinoss and Note! I can’t accept being the only one here!”
“W-What?” Retze said, caught off guard by her desperate expression as she grabbed his sleeve.
Recently, Dinoss had preferred to be called Dinoss, but sometimes Balmoa’s name came up. Note was also called because the Shadow Wolf was unsettling. Having too many names can get confusing, and being a famous person can attract unwanted attention.
And then there was Linlin, Haulon’s other personality. I had only casually mentioned it to try out the Spirit Language. I had already memorized the strict one as Master Linlin, so changing it now would be impossible.
By the way, I had met Master Linlin several times since then. However, he quickly turned into Haulon, so we didn’t talk much.
“I need to hurry before Dean gets back…”
And with that, Haulon collapsed again.
“He’s slumped over again.”
“What did you do…?”
I had just let Haulon look at Chris’s spirit. I swear.
“I’m actually quite happy about it!” Chris chimed in to support me.
Then, the light-footed Retze went to fetch the two he had called for. Looks like he’s actively pulling Haulon into this!
“What’s going on? I heard you were planning to drag us into something troublesome?”
“Seems like Retze-sama hasn’t fully grasped the details yet. What is it?”
And so, the two who had come to be actively involved arrived.
