Chapter 246: Healing the Injured
Having failed to capture the Sea Monster, Rest returned to the village. He decided to use his magic to pull the fishing boat that had survived the ordeal onto the beach.
“Rest, are you alright?”
“I’m fine. How about the fishermen who were drowning?”
“I just finished treating them. Everyone is safe and sound.”
On the beach, the fishermen were gathered, sharing their joy of survival with their families and comrades.
“Ah, thank you… noble sir. Thanks to you, everyone in the village is safe…”
An elderly man, presumably the village chief, approached Rest and bowed deeply.
“I must repay you for this… truly, thank you!”
“No, no… please don’t mention it, uh, just don’t worry about it.”
He almost slipped into formal speech but quickly corrected himself. Despite the elder’s age, Rest was a noble, and using honorifics might only make him feel more uncomfortable.
“More importantly… shouldn’t we treat the injured?”
While there were no fatalities, some had sustained injuries from colliding with the boat. It was best to treat them as soon as possible.
“Well… I’d like to do that, but we don’t have a healer or a pharmacist in our village… and we can’t afford to ask for help from another town…”
“Ah… I see.”
“We do buy medicine from peddlers, but we’ve already used it all on the previous injured…”
Such was the reality for many rural farming and fishing villages. It seemed that it wasn’t uncommon for villages to lack someone capable of using healing magic or possessing knowledge of medicinal herbs.
“It can’t be helped. I’ll take care of the treatment.”
“Is that alright, Rest?”
“Yeah, I’m already involved in this.”
Celestine looked for confirmation, and Rest nodded in response. Normally, healing magic would require a fair compensation. It was a specialized skill, after all, and shouldn’t be undervalued.
“If I were to abandon them here, it would make it difficult for me to stay in this village in the future… I should follow the example set by the Queen Dowager.”
The Queen Dowager… Shoko had also provided various forms of support to this village. As a fellow countryman, Rest decided to lend a helping hand.
“Now then, show me the injured.”
“Ah, thank you! Thank you so much!”
The village chief bowed repeatedly, overwhelmed with gratitude. Rest shrugged it off and approached the injured lying on the sand. The first person he saw was an elderly man with sunburned skin, blood flowing from an injured leg.
“[Healing]”
As Rest activated the healing magic, light enveloped the fisherman. When the light faded, the injury on his leg had vanished.
“It’s… healed!”
“Wow, the noble sir is a magician!”
Seeing Rest’s magic, the villagers erupted in praise.
“Thank you, thank you…”
“I never expected to meet a magician before I die. How fortunate…”
Some villagers even clasped their hands together in prayer, treating him as if he were a deity. The overwhelming gratitude made Rest feel more uncomfortable than pleased.
“I should hurry up and finish the treatment so I can return to the inn…”
Unable to bear the awkwardness, Rest quickly moved on to the next patient. He wasn’t particularly skilled in healing magic, but his Infinite Magic Power allowed him to cover for any shortcomings, making the process effortless.
“Um… noble sir…”
“Hmm…?”
As he treated one injured person after another, someone tugged at the hem of his tunic. Turning around, he found the girl who had first asked him to hunt the monster.
“My father… he’s at home, lying down. He’s hurt…”
“Ah… I understand.”
Truly, he was already committed to this. Rest shrugged and agreed.
“I’ll go treat him at your house. Please guide me later.”
“Yay!”
“I’m so sorry, noble sir! My daughter has been so rude, I apologize profusely!”
As the girl cheered with delight, her mother turned pale and repeatedly offered her apologies.
