Chapter 305: The Wyvern’s Nest
Carried by Yuri, Rest was transported up the mountain for nearly five minutes. Just as he had been informed beforehand, he spotted the figures of wyverns near the summit. It wasn’t just one or two; there was a nest situated in a caldera at the peak, surrounded by countless wyverns soaring through the sky.
“Oh, it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet! There are so many of them!”
“Your reaction is terrifying, Yuri,” Rest sighed, hiding behind a rock as he observed Yuri’s lack of tension.
Indeed, if they could hunt all those wyverns, it would be a feast. They could serve wyvern meat to hundreds, even thousands of people. However, Rest didn’t want to exterminate the wyverns, nor did he have any desire to open an all-you-can-eat barbecue restaurant. They had merely come to find ingredients for their party.
“Since we can’t bring back more than one, we only need to take down one. Dealing with that many would be quite a hassle.”
There were likely over a hundred wyverns. While it was possible to wipe them all out, for instance, by unleashing the God of Flame, or sweeping them away with Amaterasu, doing so would mean losing out on the ingredients. It would be counterproductive.
“But… if we attack one, the others will probably come after us too. In the end, we’d have to face all of them. It would be great if we could snatch one without alerting the whole flock…”
They could wait for a wyvern to stray from the group, but with evening approaching, it was unlikely any would leave the nest. Their guide had also vanished, so ideally, they wanted to hunt a wyvern and retreat quickly.
As Rest pondered, Yuri confidently thumped her chest. “Alright! I’ll be the decoy! While I distract them, you grab a wyvern and escape!”
“Wha—no, no, no! Absolutely not!”
Rest waved his hands in a panic at the outrageous suggestion.
“A decoy? There’s no way I’m letting you do something so dangerous!”
“Why not? I can outrun a wyvern with my legs!”
“No matter how fast you are, I can’t put you in such a risky situation. I can’t make the woman who’s going to be my wife a decoy!”
As Rest stated this matter-of-factly, Yuri pressed her hand to her chest and gasped, “That made my heart flutter! How exciting!”
“I’m glad to hear that…”
“Should I give you a hug as a reward? Just a little, and you can even touch my chest!”
“No, thank you… I’ve had enough of your hugs…”
Just moments ago, he had been forcibly carried like a human jet coaster. He had no intention of experiencing that again. The offer to touch her chest was tempting, but if the Rosemary Sisters found out, it would be terrifying, so he decided to hold off until after their wedding.
“But… the decoy strategy might actually be a good idea…”
“Hmm? Rest being the decoy is a no-go. Absolutely not.”
“Oh, I wasn’t planning on that… it would just be a diversion.”
Rest began to think of several spells. Techniques he had learned during his training with Dibble, magic from his academy lessons, and the barrier techniques taught by the esteemed Jalana Meitis. If he could apply those, perhaps he could complete the mission without being chased by the wyvern flock.
“Listen well, Yuri. Here’s the plan…”
“Hmm, hmm… I see! So that’s how it is!”
After a brief strategy meeting behind the rock, Rest and Yuri set out to acquire some wyvern meat.
