Episode 346: Giant Buffalo Hunting
A brief rest during the march.
Together with Isis, I ended up hunting monsters that happened to be near the road… Giant Buffalo.
Giant Buffalo are, literally, large water buffalo.
A little further away, buffalo the size of elephants were munching on grass.
(These huge cows are eating grass. It feels like all the plants in the country will disappear… but that’s just how things are in this Other World.)
The soil and plants in this world contain magical power and are rich in nutrients.
Even if the Giant Buffalo were to eat all the grass in the area, it would probably return to normal in a few days.
(Giant Buffalo are monsters that are hunted for food. They’re too big to domesticate, but their meat is delicious.)
I didn’t think it was a hassle.
Rather, I was sick of the depressing atmosphere of the war. It would be a good change of pace.
“The Giant Buffalo’s strength is its massive size, as you can see. Incompetent adventurers sometimes try to hunt them and get trampled, so be careful.”
“Yes, I know, Isis-san.”
Rest nodded at Isis’s warning.
I’ve fought Giant Buffalo before. There are about twenty in a herd, but even if they all charged at once, I could defeat them.
That’s why this should be a good break during the march.
“Alright, let’s have a competition. Let’s start.”

Wilhelm Lübesse, the “Sword Saint Who Dislikes Women,” called out to Rest and Isis, who were about to hunt Giant Buffalo.
Behind Lübesse were several knights and magicians.
“Oh? Are you guys going to join in?”

“Don’t come near me, women. Don’t touch me. Don’t look at me!”

“He’s just going through puberty. Please leave him alone.”
Rest shrugged at the bewildered Isis.
“You don’t mind, do you? Even if they join us?”
“Yeah, of course. The more, the merrier the competition.”
Everyone braced themselves. The knights and swordsmen gripped the hilts of their weapons, and the magicians gathered Magical Power.
There was nothing to gain from winning, but if we were going to do it, we didn’t want to lose.
“Alright, start!”
At Isis’s signal, everyone moved at once.
Lübesse was the first to jump out.
Even though his interpersonal skills with women are Incompetent, his physical abilities are top-notch. He ran at an incredible speed.
“As expected. Fast…!”
However, Rest quickly lined up next to him.
Activating the [High Accelerator] magic, I caught up to the leading Lübesse.
“Hee… not bad!”
“That’s my line… to produce speed using magic with just your bare body, are you a monster?”
“Hmph… that’s because you rely on magic, your Physical strength doesn’t develop!”
As he said that, Lübesse swung his sword.
There was still some distance to the Giant Buffalo, but a magical power slash flew from the sword and tore off the head of one nearby.
“BumoOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
“I see, it’s tough!”
The Giant Buffalo’s skull is thick and hard.
Even Lübesse’s blow from a distance wasn’t enough to kill it.
However, he quickly closed in on the Giant Buffalo’s massive body and this time slashed at its neck.
“Hmph!”
The large head separated from the body and rolled on the ground.
“First, one down.”
“I see… then, here’s mine!”
Rest also had already caught a Giant Buffalo in his range.
“[Icebolt]!”
“Bumo!?”
A powerful ice bolt was poured onto another Giant Buffalo, reaping its life.
The Giant Buffalo, completely frozen, fell to the ground.
“One here too!”
“BumoOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Just as Rest and Lübesse had each taken down one, the Giant Buffalo panicked.
They charged at the two of them, or started running away from the spot.
“[Wind Cutter]!”
“Chargeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!”
But then Isis and the others arrived.
They fired magic one after another, swung their weapons, and defeated the Giant Buffalo.
The advance unit of the Other World subjugation army obtained several thousand kilograms of meat and succeeded in acquiring a large amount of military rations.
Rest took down the most, but Lübesse hunted the largest individual.
The hunting match ended in a draw between Rest and Lübesse.
