Explanation: About the Royal Academy
The Royal Academy consists of five departments: the Magic Department, the Department of Knights, the Department of Civil Affairs, the Department of Clergy, and the Department of Arts.
The entrance examination includes a common written exam that tests general knowledge across all departments, followed by practical exams specific to each department to assess the necessary skills for that field.
Once enrolled, students must complete required subjects for their respective departments, and they can also take elective courses during their free time. Advancement and graduation are granted upon earning all credits for required subjects and a certain number of credits for elective courses.
Students can choose elective classes not only from their own department but also from other departments. If a student fails to earn the necessary credits, they will be held back a year; however, if a student is held back twice in the same year, they will be expelled. Exceptions are made for those who are on leave due to health or family circumstances.
Magic Department
This department is for those aspiring to become magicians. The curriculum includes both theoretical and practical classes on magic. In addition to acquiring new spells, students study the ecology of monsters, alchemy (such as potion-making), astronomy, divination, ancient languages, and history. It closely resembles Hogwarts.
Career Paths After Graduation:
Court Magician, magician in a local knight order, noble’s bodyguard, alchemist creating potions, and magical architect. Occasionally, some become adventurers, archaeologists, or treasure hunters.
Department of Knights
This department is for those aspiring to become knights. The curriculum focuses primarily on practical martial skills, but there are also theoretical classes on tactics and strategy. Practical training includes not only physical combat but also mock battles conducted on a board.
Career Paths After Graduation:
Royal Guard Knights, local knight order members, noble’s private soldiers, and bodyguards for wealthy merchants. Some may occasionally become adventurers or mercenaries.
Department of Civil Affairs
This department is for those aspiring to become civil officials or lords. Many aim to work in the royal palace or as local governors, or to manage territories as heads of noble families. The curriculum is primarily theoretical, covering politics, economics, law, history, foreign languages, and etiquette. Students may also process documents and draft legislation, with some proposals created by students being adopted by the royal palace.
Career Paths After Graduation:
Positions in the royal palace, civil officials or governors in local cities, officials or butlers serving nobles, diplomats, and merchants.
Department of Clergy
This department is for those aspiring to become priests, clerics, or sisters. Many aim to enter the temple and become holy figures, while others may embark on journeys as pilgrims. The curriculum includes theology, medicine, history, healing magic, purification magic, and barrier techniques. There are also classes on countermeasures against monsters, undead, and curses.
Career Paths After Graduation:
Priests, clerics, sisters, monks in the temple, pilgrims, medical officers in the royal palace, and town doctors. Occasionally, some may become adventurers or exorcists.
Department of Arts
This department is for those aspiring to become painters, sculptors, or musicians. It focuses on the study of arts, music, and poetry, and is known for having the most eccentric students. The curriculum includes painting, sculpture, instrument performance, singing, poetry, literature, and theater. Throughout the year, there are events to showcase art and music, providing opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents to influential figures.
Career Paths After Graduation:
Court artists, court musicians, freelance artists, and theater troupe members. Many students find patrons among nobles or wealthy merchants during their studies and secure employment with them.
About Elective Courses
The choice of elective courses varies depending on each student’s career aspirations. The curriculum resembles that of universities in Japan, but most students have already decided on their post-graduation paths by the time they enroll, and they often select courses accordingly.
Example: Rest
Rest aims to marry into the Rosemary Marquis House and become a court magician. He takes elective courses such as “Business Management,” “Etiquette,” “Practical Swordsmanship,” “Healing Magic,” “Barrier Techniques,” and “Social Dance.” This education is essential for becoming the head of a noble family and for acquiring magic that cannot be taught by his mentor, Dibble. Dance is a shared hobby with his fiancée.
Example: Rosemary Sisters
The Rosemary Sisters aim to support Rest as his wives. They take elective courses such as “Business Management,” “Etiquette,” “Social Dance,” “Healing Magic,” “Lady’s Education,” and “Instrument Performance,” prioritizing the skills and hobbies necessary for noblewomen.
Example: Yuri Cattleya
Yuri has no specific career path in mind and vaguely wishes to avoid a life bound to her home. She takes elective courses such as “Practical Swordsmanship,” “Horsemanship,” “Foreign Languages,” “Social Dance,” “Medicine,” “Alchemy,” and “Lady’s Education.” Her choices reflect a desire to try new things, and she was encouraged to take dance and lady’s education by her friends, the Rosemary Sisters.
