Frontier-Dwelling Demon King Reborn – Chapter 2

Today, I’m updating two chapters a day. For those visiting for the first time, please start from Chapter 1.

I am Yuuki Glossaria, the second son of the Baronial House. That is my current name.

Three years have passed since my memories returned, and I’ve finally begun to integrate the memories of my past life with my present. I am Dean Nosferatu, the “Immortal Sorcerer,” and Yuuki Glossaria, the second son of the Baronial House. I can now calmly accept both sets of memories.

“Still, what was that voice back then?”

I recalled the moment of my reincarnation. Being stabbed by Lyle was part of my plan, so I had considered what would happen after my death. I had preemptively given my familiar, the Bat, some of my blood to attune it to my magical power. After being stabbed by Lyle, my soul was supposed to be implanted into the Bat’s body. But… I spectacularly failed.

It was my first time using magic, and it was also my first time dying. It’s no surprise that I failed.

After failing the soul transfer magic, I heard that voice. “…Would you like to reincarnate?” it asked, and then my consciousness faded away. When I came to, I found myself reborn as a human.

Who reincarnated me? A god? But does such a being truly exist? I lived for 200 years in my past life, yet I never encountered such an entity. If a god existed, there would be no need to reincarnate me.

I don’t understand. For now, I have no way to investigate.

“…How much time has passed since then?”

I sat down on a chair in my room. The room contained a desk, a chair, and a bed. On the desk was a book on the etiquette of nobility. Hanging on the wall was a wooden sword used for practice with my father.

Standing in front of the mirror, I saw my current appearance. Black hair, black eyes. My features… well, I don’t think they’re bad. I don’t look particularly strong, but for a thirteen-year-old, I suppose it’s about right. My height is slightly below average for my age.

This is me now, Yuuki Glossaria, the second son of the Baronial House.

This is the territory of House Glossaria, located quite far from the royal capital—essentially, it’s the countryside. The Glossaria family has three children: the legitimate heir, Brother Zeros, my sister Lumia, and me, Yuuki. I am a bastard child, not born of the legitimate wife.

My father is Baron Georg Glossaria. His legitimate wife, Lady Telemiya, died shortly after giving birth to Lumia. Neither Lumia nor I remember her face. The only others in this mansion are the servants. …Oh, there was one exception.

In any case, I am a bastard child. As I am not the child of the legitimate wife, I have no right to inherit the barony. Therefore, I must soon decide what to do with my life: leave home to enter some academy or become an adventurer.

“…Before that, I should learn more about humans.”

Dean Nosferatu had completely failed to blend into human society. Until I settled in the ancient castle, I was chased as a monster, and after that, I became a guardian spirit of Fila Village, assisting the villagers. That was the result.

In my past life, I was not human. And in this life, I am not truly human either. Even now, after my reincarnation, the skills from my previous life remain. My blood is still the “Mystel Blood,” filled with magical power. Once I pass my growth period, I will likely stop aging. Eventually, I will drift away from the human world.

So, in this life, I intend to master the art of “pretending to be human.” During my childhood, I will study what it means to be human. Once my growth halts and I stop aging, I will use the knowledge I’ve gained to blend in among humans.

“I will use magic for that purpose. To understand humans and blend in with them.”

“Kiikii.”

Suddenly, I noticed the sound of a beast outside the window. It was the Bat.

“Did you come from the mountains?”
“…Kii.”

Even when I called out, the Bat didn’t flee. I’ve always had a fondness for Bats. Because of that, I earned the nickname “Vampire Lord.”

“Perfect timing. Would you like to assist me with a magic experiment?”
“Kii?”
“Just wait a moment.”

I used a dagger to cut my fingertip. Blood bubbled up, and I presented my finger to the Bat.

“This is my blood. It’s called ‘Mystel Blood,’ and it’s rich in magical power. If you drink this, you will become my familiar and gain wisdom and strength. What do you say?”
“…Kii.”

The Bat stuck out its tongue and licked the blood from my finger.

The wound on my finger healed almost instantly. My purification ability ensures perfect sterilization.

“…Nice to meet you, Master.”

The Bat spoke. To anyone else, it would only sound like “Kiikii.”

“Thank you for granting me power. It’s amazing. Thanks to your blood, I can now speak like this. I will be of service, so please take care of me.”

Success. Even in this reincarnated life, the Mystel Blood retains its effectiveness. Just like in my previous life, I can create a familiar by offering my blood.

Of course, without the other party’s consent, they cannot become a familiar, nor do I have complete control over them. It’s more like, “I’ll give you some magic power, so could you help me a bit?” Even so, I was met with suspicion in my past life. Just because I wasn’t drinking blood, they called me a vampire.

“I’ve just awakened to my own power as well. I look forward to working with you.”

I gently patted the Bat’s head.

“By the way, do you know of a good place to conduct a magic experiment?”
“I believe the back mountain where I live would be suitable.”

The Bat perched on my shoulder and nodded.

“However, there are monsters, so we must be cautious.”
“What kind of monsters?”
“A Dark Bear, a Hooting Nightbird, and a Large Rabbit.”
“That level is no problem.”
“That’s amazing, Master! If I encountered a monster, I would just run away!”

“I’ll head there tonight. Please guide me then.”
“I’ll be waiting!”

With that, the Bat flew away.

I confirmed that I could still use the skills from my past life. I’ll save the serious experiments for tonight in the back mountain.

Knock, knock.

As I was lost in thought, I heard a knock at the door.

“Brother Yuuki? It’s Lumia. Are you there?”

It was my sister, Lumia’s voice.

The next chapter, Chapter 3, is scheduled to be updated tomorrow evening.
