Today, due to circumstances, I have updated twice. For those visiting for the first time today, please start from Chapter 5.
On my way to the main library, I spotted Instructor Kahel. He glanced at me, snorted, and walked away without a word.
“I’ve been waiting for you, Yuuki-sama.”
In front of the library stood my butler, Neil. He had been serving our family for a long time, and I heard that he fought alongside my father on the battlefield back in the day. He wore silver-rimmed glasses, and though his hair had turned half white, he still had the build of a warrior.
“I’ve been waiting for you, Yuuki-sama. This way, please.”
“Wasn’t Instructor Kahel just here?”
“I have no knowledge of what the tutor does.”
With a curt reply, Neil opened the door to the library.
Upon entering, I saw the built-in bookshelves. There were only a few books on the shelves. Books are precious, and the House Glossaria isn’t particularly wealthy.
“What kind of book do you desire, Yuuki-sama?”
“I’m looking for a book on the history of this country… Ah, this one.”
“Can you read it!?”
“Somewhat, I guess.”
“The spine only says ‘Chronicles of the Kingdom’ in an old script… You can read this? That’s impressive, Yuuki-sama.”
“Could I borrow a chair?”
If it’s a history book, it should mention the Sacred Domain Church. I might even find out what happened to Fila Village, Lyle, and Alice.
I climbed onto the chair and reached for the shelf’s door. Grabbing the handle and pulling it—
Clang!
“…It won’t open.”
No matter how much I pushed or pulled, it wouldn’t budge. This was strange. I had received permission from my father, and Neil should know that.
“Um, it won’t open.”
“I’ve unlocked the bookshelf.”
“But it won’t open?”
“I have unlocked the bookshelf. That’s all I can say.”
Neil averted his gaze. Following his line of sight, I noticed a small metal plate stuck to the bottom of the shelf. That must be what’s preventing the door from opening.
I stepped down from the chair and leaned closer to the metal plate. Its surface was smooth, with engravings on it. No matter how much I scratched at it with my finger, it wouldn’t come off. This was a magical device meant to lock the door.
“Well then, I shall take my leave. Please call for me when you finish reading.”
Neil exited the library.
Complaining to Neil wouldn’t help. He had sworn loyalty to the baronial house. He probably thought that opposing Instructor Kahel would jeopardize the house’s standing. Humans are such a hassle, especially nobles.
Even if I read the book, it wouldn’t disadvantage Instructor Kahel. So why go out of his way to obstruct me with a magical device? I just don’t understand humans.
Well, there’s no helping it. I might as well try to dispel the magic after a long time.
“‘Mystel Blood’ Hacking.”
I used a dagger to cut my finger. I pressed the bleeding finger against the magical device.
My blood naturally possesses a strong magical power. The blood that flows out is connected to me through magic. Blood is a part of me, my limbs as well. Therefore, by soaking it in my blood, I can interfere with the magic.
In my previous life, when Alice, Lyle’s daughter, contracted the Death Mark Disease, I gave her my blood. While it flowed through her, it remained connected to me through magic for a certain period. That’s how I was able to use the power of purification to eliminate the pathogen of the Death Mark Disease.
This time, I would apply what I learned from purifying Alice. By infusing my blood into the magical device, I could hack the magic. It’s simple. I just need to analyze and destroy the spell or block the flow of magic that operates it.
“──Infiltrating the magical exterior. Continuing the hacking process.”
Internal magic—analysis complete. Confirming the binding magic on the shelf door. Beginning to disrupt the magical supply. Stopping the magic operation—success.
Unlocking the lock.
Clunk.
The plate on the shelf came off.
“I’ll put this back later.”
“Impressive, Yuuki-sama!”
A voice called from outside the window. Looking closely, I saw a black bat hanging from a tree in the garden.
“You were here, Dick.”
“I came to report! The back mountain is clear for now!”
“Sorry, but I can’t chat right now. It’s reading time.”
“That’s fine! I got to see something amazing! I’ve never seen magic canceled by magic before!”
“Just a boring trick, Dick.”
Even with this ability, I couldn’t defeat the Sacred Domain Church.
“Yuuki-sama, someone is coming.”
“Understood.”
I opened the shelf and took out the book. Closing the door, I would have liked to seal the magical device, but that was impossible, so I just leaned it against the shelf.
“Excuse me, Yuuki-sama. I’ve brought tea.”
“No tea for me. I don’t want to dirty the book.”
“I see…”
Neil was looking at the shelf. …Oh no, is the magical device upside down? I was in a rush when I put it back. I wonder if Neil will find it suspicious.
“Even tutors can make mistakes, huh?”
“You have no knowledge of the tutor’s actions, do you?”
“That was just a passing comment. I merely thought that Instructor Kahel seemed flustered.”
“Why do you think that?”
“Just a thought… I’ve experienced a seal similar to the one stuck to the shelf on the battlefield. It took three magicians to break it. There’s no way someone could break such a seal, so I thought perhaps Instructor Kahel made a mistake.”
“Are you suggesting that Instructor Kahel is trying to annoy me?”
“That was an indiscretion.”
Neil cleared his throat.
“There’s no way someone hired by the baron would do something so trivial.”
“Instructor Kahel is a member of the Magic Guild. He wouldn’t harass a child.”
“…I have no knowledge of the tutor’s actions. None at all.”
Clatter, clatter, clatter!
…Someone was hurriedly running away.
“Then I shall continue my reading. Neil, please return to your duties.”
“I shall take my leave, Yuuki-sama.”
Neil exited the library. Time to get serious about my reading.
—One hour later—
“…Hah.”
I closed the book. To put it bluntly, the Sacred Domain Church has perished. Completely. Not a sound left to be heard.
“What are you humans doing?”
It’s not funny. Seriously, what are they thinking? The Sacred Domain Church and humanity alike.
In the era I lived in my previous life, the Sacred Domain Church was a powerful combat organization. They called the ancient magic civilization they discovered Elysion a sanctuary and used the ancient magic and artifacts they found there to infiltrate the core of many nations.
Bishops, priests, holy knights. They were involved in politics across various countries and regions. They wielded enough power that even kings couldn’t openly oppose them.
But… after my death as Dean Nosferatu, they fell. After causing immense trouble for the human world.
“…The ‘Immortal Sorcerer Nosferatu’ caused far less trouble for humans than the Sacred Domain Church.”
According to history books, after my death, a war broke out among humans. What started as a minor skirmish escalated when the Sacred Domain Church intervened. They convinced both nations that with ancient artifacts and magic, victory was assured. At that time, the Sacred Domain Church was divided into two factions, each siding with one of the nations.
Both nations, believing they had the Sacred Domain Church on their side, grew overconfident, rejecting peace talks and committing all their resources to war.
However, when they actually fought, the ancient artifacts proved useless. The reason remains unknown. Whether they failed to activate or couldn’t be used is unclear. The nations that relied on the Sacred Domain Church found themselves trapped in a quagmire of war, leading to their disintegration. The people’s resentment turned towards the Sacred Domain Church.
And thus, the Sacred Domain Church turned all factions into enemies and was annihilated. Most of the ancient artifacts they possessed went missing.
The end.
“I thought the people of this era would replicate the ancient artifacts and live comfortably.”
Like items that produce hot water from a faucet or blankets that warm you while you sleep. In the end, that didn’t happen. Despite having unearthed holy swords, the Sacred Domain Church perished. How ridiculous.
I couldn’t find any information about Fila Village. The history book ended with the fall of the Sacred Domain Church and the subsequent peaceful establishment of the Lindbell Magic Guild.
The Lindbell Magic Guild was established to properly educate those who wield magic, ensuring that they do not repeat the same mistakes as the Sacred Domain Church, and to manage Ancient Magic responsibly.
“I guess this is about all I can understand.”
To learn more, I would have to go to the royal capital. There, I could find a large library and researchers dedicated to history.
One day, I’ll go and investigate the fate of Fila Village. I want to know what happened to Lyle and the others.
I returned the book to the shelf. After ringing the bell on the desk, my butler Neil came in. Once Neil locked the library, I thanked him and returned to my quarters.
Back in my room, I pondered what to do next.
I had two paths before me. One was to leave home and enroll in a regular academy. I couldn’t inherit the Grossaria family. My only options were to become an adventurer or to get accepted into the academy in the royal capital.
The other option was to leave home and search for the remnants of Fila Village. The war broke out shortly after I died. If I could find a descendant of Alice, I might uncover some information.
“…Maybe I should do both.”
Upon reflection, I realized there was no need to choose just one. I could simply enroll in the academy while searching for information about Fila Village. That’s all there was to it.
My course of action was decided. I would consult with Father later.
As I was lost in thought—
“Congratulations! Brother Zeros!!”
Looking out the window, I saw Father, Brother Zeros, and Instructor Kahel in the garden. A carriage was stopped outside the gate—a red box carriage. A mail carriage. Ah, today was the day the mail carriage arrived.
The mail carriage was an important communication service in this country, delivering letters and packages to each town.
It seemed a letter had arrived for Brother Zeros. Ignoring the boisterous laughter of Instructor Kahel, both Father and Brother Zeros wore broad smiles.
“Oh, Yuuki. Come over here. A very honorable message has arrived for Zeros,” Father beckoned.
“Uh, yeah. I want Yuuki to hear this too,” Brother Zeros added, his expression a bit uncertain.
I made my way to the entrance and stepped outside.
“Ah, Yuuki! You should be proud to have such a wonderful older brother! A fantastic message has arrived for my student, Zeros, from the Magic Guild!!” Instructor Kahel exclaimed, looking more cheerful than I had ever seen him.
He grasped Brother Zeros’s hand, laughing as he turned to me.
“You know about the Lindbell Magic Guild, don’t you, Yuuki?”
Father explained in place of the two. He looked pleased as well. That must mean—
“Could it be that Brother has become a trainee at the Magic Guild!?” I asked, my excitement bubbling over.
“Not quite, Yuuki,” Brother Zeros replied, puffing out his chest proudly.
“The Eighth Princess, Iris Restia, has decided to evaluate my abilities!!”
With a beaming smile, Brother Zeros shouted with joy.
Next time, Episode 7 is scheduled to be updated tomorrow at noon.
