Chapter 137: Let’s Hear the Appraisal Results
“I’m so bored…”
I gazed blankly at the sea, never expecting it to be this dull. It had been a while since we set sail, and it was unlikely that anything would happen that would require our protection anytime soon.
“How about some fishing?”
While petting Nil’s fluffy fur, Rio pulled a fishing rod out of the Dimensional Box.
“Fishing, huh?”
As always, it was a rod without a reel. It seemed rather inconvenient to fish from a moving ship.
“Oh, then how about we ask those people over there about the appraisal we talked about the other day?”
Noticing my lack of enthusiasm for fishing, Rio put the rod away and suggested another idea.
“Oh, that might be a good opportunity.”
“Yeah, we haven’t seen them in the past two days.”
Since it was a fairly large town, we hadn’t run into them since then. Although there were some people around, the noise from the moving ship would likely keep our conversation private.
Rio and I made our way to the stern of the ship, where a group of four was gathered, with Nil following closely behind us.
As we approached, the appraiser among them, Kant, noticed us and showed signs of wariness. The other three turned to face us as well.
“W-What do you want?”
He seemed a bit taken aback, but the others didn’t appear as concerned. In fact, they looked somewhat displeased.
“No, I just wanted to ask about something we couldn’t discuss last time.”
“…What do you want to know?”
“I was curious about what you could see with your appraisal, Kant.”
“Ah… now that you mention it…”
He seemed to recall our previous conversation, glancing upward as if searching for the right words.
“That’s why I’ve been telling you not to go around appraising people recklessly…”
The one who muttered that was the quietest among the four, Gim. I remembered him from before, as he had a calming presence.
“That’s true. Just like we noticed, there might be monsters who can sense when they’re being appraised.”
While I had never encountered such a monster, I couldn’t rule it out. After all, we were able to notice it ourselves.
“Yeah… I’ll be more careful from now on. So, what I can appraise is…”
“Yes?”
“The things I can see are the name, species, occupation, and the individual’s condition. And then there’s the status.”
I see. It seems like what he can see is the same as what I can.
“I can see nine values: HP, MP, Strength, Endurance, Agility, Dexterity, Mental Power, Magic Power, and Luck.”
Beryl, the red-haired member of the group, chimed in confidently, continuing Kant’s explanation. So, it really is the same. Since it’s an Appraisal Skill, the values must be visible in the same way.
“I’d like to know those numbers as well.”
“Eh?”
Kant’s eyes widened as he stared at me, then he glanced around at his party members.
“Is it okay to say that here?”
“Of course! If they’re okay with it, then share it with us too.”
“Yeah, I can’t just accept that we’re outmatched without knowing why.”
“Haha…”
They each had their own reactions, but it seemed they had kept this information among themselves. They didn’t seem like bad people after all.
“Alright. I’m curious too.”
“Okay, got it… But you guys better not shout in surprise.”
With a gulp, Kant revealed the numbers, which were almost identical to what I had appraised myself, with only a slight margin of error.
“Eh?”
“Huh?”
“Whoa!”
Each of them uttered a single word before freezing in place. Rio, satisfied with the numbers she heard, nodded to herself.
“W-We have over ten times that…”
Finally, one of them managed to regain his composure and muttered, prompting the others to snap back to reality.
“No way, is your appraisal result wrong?”
“Why are you a C Rank Adventurer…?”
I see, so it’s over ten times. I can’t really criticize them, as I had been appraising everyone indiscriminately too, but after this appraisal incident, I’ve been holding back a bit. At least within the Guild, I’ve been refraining from unnecessary appraisals, and the other six members in our current party hadn’t been appraising either.
“Wow, there’s that much of a difference?”
“Y-Yeah… My strength is around 1100. The S Rank Adventurers I saw briefly in the Imperial Capital had a single stat barely reaching five digits…”
Oh, so S Rank Adventurers have five-digit stats… Wait? Only five digits? Well, my mentor did say not to rely too much on numbers, so I should keep my focus.
“And as for Rio, her MP is in the six digits… she’s a monster!”
After all, her magic power growth rate is a hundred times greater.
“Who are you two, really?”
The question caught both Rio and me off guard, and we exchanged glances.
“Who are we? We’re just ordinary adventurers who came from the countryside.”
I had no intention of revealing that we were summoned from another world by some kingdom, and I thought this answer was safe enough. Just as I was thinking that, Rio took my arm and snuggled up to me.
“That’s right! We’re just a couple of adventurers traveling together.”
“Ugh!”
“Damn it!”
“What did you say?!”
“Ughhhh!”
Four voices of resentment rose in response to Rio’s words, but I chose to ignore them. Perhaps this would help us divert attention.
“Oh, speaking of which…”
There was one more piece of information I should keep secret.
“Please don’t mention Nil’s species name either.”
“Eh? —What!?”
From the looks of it, it seemed that only Rio and I had appraised in the Guild. Kant’s face turned pale as he looked at Nil.
Did I say something I shouldn’t have?
