Chapter 197: Various Failed Creations
Weapons such as swords, daggers, greatswords, spears, and axes lay scattered about the room. Not only weapons, but there were also plenty of armor pieces like shields, breastplates, greaves, and gauntlets.
And the sword we were after was…
“I found it!”
Rio exclaimed as she picked up a sword that was stuck in a pot in the corner of the room.
“Ahaha, I knew you’d be interested in the sword,” said a girl who introduced herself as Paula, the master’s apprentice, while she too picked up a sword. I turned my gaze toward the pot as well, noticing that most of the swords were unsheathed and exposed.
I casually grabbed one of the exposed swords and began to examine it closely. It had a slight curve, and at first glance, it resembled a katana. Although, I didn’t know much about what a katana truly was, so it was just a vague impression.
It looked like it could cut well, but could this really be a failed creation? Perhaps it was fragile or something? I couldn’t tell just by looking at it…

Type: Weapon (Sword)
Name: None
Description: A sword forged from Tamahagane.
Its sharpness surpasses that of other weapons, placing it among the top tier of bladed weapons.
Quality: C
Enchantment: None
Creator: Ruigentz
=====
…What is this?
This is more than usable. And a quality of C… I don’t know what the ranking system is like, but how does that work? Wait, so the appraisal can also show quality? I’ve been using the gear I had for a long time and hadn’t appraised anything in ages. It even shows enchantments; come to think of it, my appraisal level had gone up a bit.
Even if it’s a rank like an adventurer’s, C isn’t bad at all. But if this is considered a failed creation, then Ruigentz must be incredible.

Type: Weapon (Sword)

Description: A sword forged from Tamahagane.
Its sharpness surpasses that of other weapons, placing it among the top tier of bladed weapons.
However, the quality is poor, and it cannot even cut paper.
Quality: F
Enchantment: None
Creator: Paula
=====
“Oh…”
Ah, this one is Paula’s failed creation. With a quality of F, it might break easily. But I wonder if appraisals can really provide that much detail. I guess they expect you to judge based on quality.
“Ahaha… Looks like I’ve been found out. Not just the master’s, but my failed creations are here too,” Paula admitted with a wry smile, clearly disappointed after picking up another sword.
“I see. But that might still be useful for reference,” Rio replied.
“……Is that so?”
Paula’s expression turned complex at Rio’s words. She probably didn’t want her failed creations to be used as a reference, but understanding what constitutes a failure is important. Our method of weapon crafting is unique, after all.
As I continued to appraise the swords laid out, I found that the quality ranged from F to C. There were definitely higher ranks, with A being a certainty, but I still thought C wasn’t bad… Though, as expected for failed creations, there was only one sword with a quality of C.
“Also, this one and this one… They seem to be swords made from Taur Steel alloy and Mithril alloy,” I noted.
“W-Wow, you can tell!?”
“Yes, this one also contains Mithril,” Rio added, gripping a sword tightly. She had wrapped her magic power around the blade, indicating she was using Earth Magic to examine the metal. When forming extracted metals, using Earth Magic makes the process easier.
“Eh, really!?”
Curiosity piqued, I decided to channel my magic power through the sword as well. I felt a sensation similar to when I extracted Mithril in the mine. It definitely seemed to contain Mithril.
However, I didn’t find any weapons containing Adamantite among the failed creations.
“Hmm… I can’t tell at all, but…”
“Mmmmmm…”
Ivan compared the swords, while Phonia held a dagger and similarly pondered.
“Y-Yeah… I don’t understand either…”
Paula looked downcast, her face dark. Well, I couldn’t distinguish them just by appearance either, so I guess it’s understandable for her to feel that way. Regardless of the method, Rio and I could tell.
But appraisals… I wonder how the weapons we made ourselves would turn out if I appraised them.
Driven by curiosity, I took out the weapons Rio and I had crafted using Earth Magic and decided to appraise them.

Hmm. The one made from the mined Iron Ore has a quality of D.

Description: A dagger made by compressing and solidifying Earth.
Specialized for sharpness.
Quality: E
Enchantment: None

=====
This is the dagger I made while living with my master in the Forest of Enchantment. Its quality is E. The feel of it wasn’t bad, so I guess that’s about average.

=====
Whoa, as expected of my master. It even has the Hardening and Enhancement enchantments; that’s impressive.
“Eh…? That dagger, could it be…?”
As I appraised my dagger, I heard a voice filled with surprise from beside me. It was undoubtedly Paula’s voice, but what was so special about the dagger?
“…Could it be the work of the master craftsman, Luciel!?”
“……………Huh?”
