Growth Rate Skill Maximizer – Chapter 217

Chapter 205: Request for an S Rank Adventurer

Since we were heading to the mountain peak anyway, we decided to take on a request, so we made our way to the Guild. However, once inside, I found myself confronted with a pressing question: “Are there any requests available for S Rank Adventurers?”

“Surely there aren’t any, right?”

I glanced at the request board and asked Rio, but all I got in response was a simple, “There aren’t any.” Naturally, the board only displayed requests up to A Rank.

“I guess we have no choice but to go without a request, huh?”

“Looks like that’s the only option.”

“Then let’s do that.”

“Yay!”

“Woohoo!”

Everyone agreed with Ivan’s words. Just as we were about to leave the Guild, turning around to head out, a female staff member appeared right in front of us. I felt a sense of déjà vu; she was the one who had given us a tour when we first visited the Guild.

“Shu-san and Rio-san, correct?”

“Yes, that’s us.”

“The Guild Master wishes to meet with you. Do you have a moment now?”

Her words were somewhat expected, and I glanced around. Since no one else had any pressing matters, it seemed everyone was fine with it. The Guild Master had always made a point to greet us whenever we visited, so this was no exception.

“That works for us.”

“Thank you. Please follow me.”

Her tone was noticeably more polite than when we first met. We walked deeper into the Guild, drawing attention as we headed toward the back. After climbing the stairs behind the counter, we were led into a room.

“Guild Master, I’ve brought the individuals you requested.”

After knocking, I called out, and a slightly raspy voice replied, “Come in.” It appeared to be the Guild Master’s office. Upon entering, we found an elderly woman in a robe seated at a desk, waiting for us.

“Thank you for your hard work. You may leave now.”

“Yes, excuse me.”

“Now then, I’m Lan Fan, the Guild Master here. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Once the female staff member left, the Guild Master began to speak.

“You look younger than I imagined.”

After we introduced ourselves, I heard her murmur with a hint of surprise.

“Well, what do you need from us?”

“Don’t rush me. The request isn’t going anywhere. For now, please have a seat.”

“A request?”

As I settled onto the sofa in front of the desk, I wondered if there was indeed an S Rank request that just wasn’t posted on the board. Ivan and Phonia took their seats, while Nil sprawled out beside the sofa. Once the Guild Master moved to the opposite sofa, there was a knock at the door.

“Excuse me.”

The same female staff member entered, bringing tea. She even placed a small treat in front of Phonia. I picked up my cup and savored the aroma; it smelled like a fine quality black tea.

“You’re aware that the request to go to the summit of the canyon is of a high rank, right?”

“Yes. I heard that Wyverns and Chimeras are known to appear there?”

“Indeed, those are the most famous ones. But there are other troublesome monsters as well. Given your rank, I’d like to ask you to investigate one of them.”

Hmm… An investigation. The destination we planned to go to hasn’t changed, so it seems feasible to handle this as well. In fact, it would provide us with information about the monsters we might encounter. Just hearing that there are other troublesome monsters is already a win.

“By the way, what kind of monster are we talking about?”

The Guild Master, Lan Fan, smirked at my question.

“Are you curious?”

She didn’t answer immediately, instead teasing me with a pause. It was amusing how she was the one who brought it up but was now being so coy.

“Oh, no, if you can’t tell me, that’s fine.”

Rio quickly interjected, but depending on the type of investigation, it’s possible they might not know the details. To be honest, I could use Presence Detection to sense the monsters from here. As long as I know the target of the investigation, I could figure out a fair amount without needing to be told in advance.

“Now, now, don’t rush me.”

It seemed she enjoyed the suspense. In this situation, she was elegantly sipping her tea, clearly relishing the moment.

Alright, I’ll take the initiative and extend my Presence Detection. The last time Phonia was targeted, I used it to its fullest, and I realized I could sense more than just presences now. I could detect Magic Power, vitality, and even the terrain, likely thanks to my Map Skill. It seemed I had unknowingly gained various skills.

I expanded my range toward the summit. This must be the Magic Power vent… It looks like the magic energy is flowing underground, connecting to the valley below. I could sense a few large monsters, but they didn’t seem too threatening. The one with a membranous covering must be the Wyvern. So that over there is the Chimera.

…Hmm? It seems like something is blocking this vent. Is that also a monster?
With my coordinates firmly established, I could use Spatial Magic to extend my vision. I was curious, so I decided to take a look.

A round, green object was sitting there, blocking the vent. As I extended my vision, the distance became hazy, making it hard to gauge its size, but it looked quite large. Moreover, it seemed to be accumulating Magic Power rapidly. Is it safe to absorb that much energy at once?

“There’s a monster that occasionally appears at the summit called the Mole Ball.”

After finishing her tea, the elderly woman finally got to the main topic. So this Mole Ball, which sounds like it could emit a foul breath, is the target of our investigation. In terms of shape, the creature blocking the vent is indeed round.

“I’d like you to investigate whether this Mole Ball is blocking the Magic Power vent at the summit.”

Well, it certainly is blocking it.
