Chapter 210: Report of Investigation
“Guild Master!? What happened… huh…? Hiiyaaahhh!?”
Startled by the old woman’s scream, Tetra burst into the room with the tea she had brought. However, the moment she laid eyes on the Mole Ball, she met the same fate as the old woman. The tea set, floating in the air, was gently caught by magic and placed onto the table.
“Bwoof!”
“Oh, the pot flew away…!”
Ivan burst into laughter as he watched Tetra follow the old woman’s lead, but Phonia seemed to be moved by something else entirely. Alright, let’s brew the tea while we’re at it.
“Fwooooh!”
As I lifted the pot with magic and tilted it into the cups, Phonia’s eyes sparkled with excitement. She tugged at the hem of Ivan’s clothes.
“Look, look, Ivan-nii! The pot is pouring tea!”
“Haha, that’s right. It might just be a magical pot.”
“Eh? Isn’t the pot being moved by you or big sister?”
“Eh? Well, I mean, I guess that’s true…”
“Right?!”
Realizing that she was just playing along, Ivan wore a puzzled expression.
“Ahhh…? Wait… doesn’t it smell?”
Tetra, who had quickly recovered, released her pinched nose and stood up. The old woman seemed to regain her composure as well, plopping down onto the sofa across from us with a disgruntled look.
“Hmph. You really did it this time.”
“You were the one who suspected a monster hunt, weren’t you?”
As I shrugged, Rio returned to the sofa with the Mole Ball in hand. The old woman glared at the Mole Ball with disdain.
“Well, I understand you defeated it, so could you please put that away? I know it doesn’t smell, but just looking at it makes me feel like it’s going to stink.”
“Understood.”
Even though she had just returned to the sofa, there was really no need to move. Rio opened the Dimensional Box while still seated and stored the Mole Ball away. Tetra’s eyes widened at the sight, but the Guild Master remained unfazed.
“So, it was said that the large number of Wyverns and Chimeras taking flight wasn’t due to the defeat of the Mole Ball, right?”
After taking a sip of the brewed tea, the old woman seemed to be ready to continue the conversation.
“Is that so? Well, as you can see, we defeated the Mole Ball quite easily.”
“Indeed… Aside from the clean cut, there were no significant damages.”
“After that, when we tried to dissect the prey we brought in, the monsters started to stir.”
“…Huh? A-rank monsters stirred over a corpse?”
The old woman halted her hand that was reaching for her cup and shot a glance at us.
“Indeed. It seems that more than half of the monsters near the summit fled.”
“They fled? What were you trying to dissect…? No, more importantly, are the ones that didn’t flee still at the summit?”
“Who knows? I doubt there are many left. Most of them came charging at us, and we took them down.”
I couldn’t say for certain since we hadn’t checked again afterward, but most of the monsters should have either fled or charged at us only to be defeated. Even if there were some hiding, it would be just a handful.
“…What did you say?”
“That’s why I think the summit is relatively safe now.”
“Tetra!”
“Yes!?”
“You heard the conversation, right? Immediately issue a request for an investigation at the summit!”
After hearing our discussion, the old woman quickly directed a staff member standing in the corner of the office, who looked stunned.
“Understood!”
As Tetra hurriedly left the room, the atmosphere in the office relaxed slightly.
“Phew… I think I understand most of the situation now.”
With a deep sigh, the old woman leaned back against the sofa.
“Honestly… S Rank is something else entirely.”
“Then, is the conversation over? I’m getting hungry, so I’ll be heading home soon.”
“Wait a moment.”
Just as we thought we could finally leave the sofa, we paused. Was there something more?
“Honestly, they say young people are impatient, but I’ve never seen anyone try to leave without discussing their reward.”
She sighed dramatically again. Now that I thought about it, she was right. However, we had already taken quite a bit of the mineral resources near the summit, so it wasn’t a big deal for me.
The old woman stood up from the sofa and pulled out a leather pouch from her desk, placing it on the table.
“I didn’t expect you to defeat it. Here’s your hunting reward of one million Fron. Also, go to the counter to collect the investigation request reward.”
“Ah, understood.”
“If possible, it would help if you could sell the neatly extracted Magic Stones and the materials from the other Wyverns and Chimeras to the Guild.”
“I’ll think about it.”
“Oh, and the monster you dissected at the summit as well.”
“Haha, right. Well then, excuse us.”
Thus, we left the office, leaving behind the Guild Master’s three heavy sighs. After collecting our investigation reward at the counter, we received another one million Fron.
“Let’s go home for dinner!”
Phonia’s cheerful voice rang out, sensing that our work for the day was done.
“Yeah, I’m hungry.”
I patted Phonia, who was cradling Nil in her arms, as we exited the Guild. Time to indulge in the inn’s food after three days.
