Chapter 216: The Use of the Shell
After returning from the workshop, we made our way back to the inn. The riverside, which could be considered the inn’s garden, was spacious and convenient for various activities.
I had asked Paula about the condition of the Sea Emperor Turtle’s shell while at the workshop, but it seemed the news wasn’t very promising. In fact, I heard the master had suggested it might be better to use the shell as a wall directly.
“That’s when I had an idea. What if we reinforced the Camping House with the Sea Emperor Turtle’s shell?”
“At that point, wouldn’t it be more like a small fortress?”
“Isn’t it practically indestructible?”
“It would definitely enhance our defense, making camping much safer.”
“Well, that’s true, but is it really necessary to go that far?”
“Ordinary vigilance is usually enough, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
Ivan’s skepticism was understandable, but you never know what might happen in this world. I retrieved the Camping House from the Dimensional Box and set it up by the riverside.
“…Huh?”
Ivan tilted his head in confusion. What was the matter? I had simply taken it out as usual.
“Then I suppose I should reinforce mine as well.”
Saying this, Rio pulled out her own Camping House, which she used regularly.
“Whoa! You had two of them!?”
Ah, so that was what surprised him. Mine was just a spare. The furniture inside was standard commercial stuff, so it wasn’t particularly cozy.
“Preparedness is key, after all.”
“Two houses! That’s amazing!”
Phonia wagged her tail excitedly.
“Since the one we usually use is Rio’s Camping House, do you want to explore mine?”
“Really? Is that okay!?”
I nodded, patting Phonia’s head as her eyes sparkled with excitement. She let out a cheer and dashed into the house. Though it was a small space, since we were just attaching the shell to the outside, it wouldn’t be a problem to do anything inside.
“Alright, let’s see if I can slice the shell with my new katana.”
“Hehe, it’s my turn now.”
“Yeah, let’s check out the quality of the master’s work.”
As I pulled the shell from the Dimensional Box, I sensed someone approaching from the inn. Given the time, it was probably Laila-san coming to clean the rooms. It was rare for her to come outside.
“That was quite a noise… How’s the house?”
When taking out the Camping House, the deep bass sound echoed quite loudly.
“Oh, I’m sorry if it was too loud. I was thinking of making some modifications… I’ll try to keep it quieter.”
“Not at all… The S Rank Adventurer is truly impressive. Well then, I’ll get back to cleaning the rooms.”
With that, she returned inside. There were other guests staying at the inn, so it was best to keep the noise down. I should be mindful of that while working.
After reinforcing the Camping House, we made our way back to the mountaintop near the canyon. This time, we weren’t here to mine; we had come to test out what had been revealed through the appraisal of the gauntlet.
“I wonder how powerful it is.”
“If the appraisal results are accurate, it might clear a pretty wide area.”
“Seriously? Shu’s master is incredible.”
Ivan was astonished by Rio’s response. I couldn’t agree more. I never expected the creator of the Ancient Red Dragon Scale shield to be the same master. Its quality was B and it had no enhancements, but it was still top-notch.
“Alright, this should be a good spot.”
We were in the same wide area where we had previously summoned the Sea Emperor Turtle. It was far enough from the canyon that there shouldn’t be any repercussions. Probably.
There was a rock formation about five meters high, so I leaned a one-meter square piece of the turtle’s shell against it. It was surprisingly thick, measuring a meter as well. Now, who would win: the gauntlet or the turtle?
Stepping back about ten meters, I retrieved the gauntlet from the Dimensional Box and put it on. I never expected that these gauntlets would work in pairs, activating their effects when used simultaneously… although I still had no idea how to use both at the same time.
“Everyone, stay behind me; it might be dangerous.”
Rio was setting up a barrier behind me. That should be sufficient.
“Alright, here we go.”
I brought my hands together, both clad in gauntlets, and infused them with Magic Power. The gauntlets resonated, amplifying the Magic Power and increasing their glow.
“Whoa, this feels incredible… Is this how you fire a Kamehameha?”
As I continued to channel my Magic Power, the light began to overflow. I thrust my arms forward, pulling the trigger on the gathered Magic Power.
With a blast of wind, a continuous wave of destruction surged toward the target. After about ten seconds, the destruction subsided, and the area momentarily darkened.
…No, it was just that the blinding light had faded, returning to normal brightness.
“Whoa, amazing!”
“Wow…”
“Incredible…”
“Woohoo!”
Phonia was bouncing with excitement, while Rio and Ivan looked slightly taken aback. Nil had flattened her ears and was sitting with her tail tucked between her hind legs.
In the distance, a shadow resembling a wyvern or chimera seemed to flee, perhaps having been lurking nearby.
“This is bad.”
The rock that had served as our target was completely obliterated, but the ground where the shell had been leaned against remained intact. However, the surrounding area was gouged out, extending roughly two hundred meters with a width of about fifty meters at its widest point. It seemed that if we had used this, we could have taken down the Sea Emperor Turtle without much trouble. At the very least, we could have completely destroyed the first layer of its shell.
Still, was the dragon’s breath this powerful? I didn’t think the Earth Dragon’s breath was anywhere near this level…
“…Alright, let’s head back.”
“Sounds good.”
“Yeah. I didn’t see anything.”
“Is it already over?”
With that, we left the remnants of destruction behind and set off on our way back to the inn.
By the way, the appraisal results for the gauntlets were as follows:
