Chapter 30: The Little Rich
“Hoho, what splendid Great Deer and Murder Bear! How about selling these two to us?”
“Wait, wait! I spotted them first, so no sneaking ahead!”
“No, if we’re talking about that, I saw them first!”
A crowd of merchants began to gather around us. We had planned to carry them to the Adventurer’s Guild without drawing attention, but now what should we do?
“Shuu, what should we do?”
“Let’s see. Which would be more profitable, selling them to the Adventurer’s Guild or to these merchants?”
“Of course, it’s my trading company!”
“Of course, it’s my trading company!”
“Of course, it’s my trading company!”
You all seem quite friendly.
“Then I suppose we should sell to whoever offers the highest price.”
Since we hadn’t accepted a subjugation request, we wouldn’t receive any rewards for the hunt anyway. If it doesn’t count as a completed quest, there’s little point in selling them at the guild.
“Then it’s settled at my place!”
“It’s decided at my trading company!”
“Of course, it’s me!”
“May I join in as well?”
With my words, a bidding war began among the four of them. Wait, one more person joined in. But if we’re doing this, let’s make sure they get a good look at the beasts.
“First, let’s start with the Great Deer.”
“Please assess it thoroughly.”
As I spoke, Rio lowered the Great Deer to the ground, and the merchants swarmed around it.
“W-Wow… what magnificent antlers!”
“There are no visible wounds.”
“The blood has been properly drained.”
“…The entrails haven’t been removed, huh?”
After a while, the price they offered skyrocketed beyond what they had been arguing about just moments ago. Are you serious about that price? I was starting to feel a bit scared.
“500,000 Fron!”
“No, mine is 550,000 Fron!”
“I’ll offer 580,000 Fron!”
“70,000 Fron!”
In the end, the Murder Bear was sold alongside the Great Deer for a total of 2,350,000 Fron. Thank you for your purchase!
“That was… incredible…”
“Yeah… it was like a storm.”
“But that fourth female merchant was something else.”
Indeed. In the end, both beasts were purchased by the woman who appeared last.
“I never expected to see such a large sum of money.”
“That bear must have been quite valuable.”
It felt foolish to have skimped on meals and baths when we had just acquired such a fortune. With this, we could buy everything we wanted!
“Right? Thinking about it, the ingredients in our Dimensional Box are insane, aren’t they?”
As I muttered this, Rio’s expression shifted to one of realization, and her face gradually turned pale.
“W-What should we do? I’m starting to feel scared.”
“Don’t worry. If we keep it hidden, no one will find out.”
“Y-Yeah, you’re right…”
Calm down, Rio. In times like this, deep breaths are essential. Inhale, exhale. Wait, was that right?
“Next, let’s head to the guild to deliver the Regulus Fruits.”
“Okay.”
“…But first, we need to secure a place to stay.”
“Oh, right.”
It was evening. The Adventurer’s Guild was quite a distance from the North Gate, so we needed to hurry before night fell. We jogged back to the inn where we had stayed last time and booked a room for a week, given our newfound wealth.
“Alright, here we go. …Huh? You brought back fifteen of them?”
When I placed the basket of Regulus Fruits on the guild’s buying counter and announced the quantity, that was the response I received.
“Wait, you even brought back two of the red ones…? Just how deep into the Forest did you go?”
“Uh, I’m not sure how to answer that. How deep…?”
“Who knows?”
I turned to Rio, but she had no answer either.
“We didn’t have any specific landmarks, so I guess it was just as far as we could go in a day? We camped in the Forest for a night, so maybe that far?”
“Wait, you did it in a day? There’s no way red fruits would be found in such shallow areas…”
Ah, I see. I might have spent too much time on my Tame Skill experiments and got a bit too serious about searching for Regulus Fruits.
“Well, since we have the actual fruits here, there’s no room for doubt. …Here you go, thirteen yellow and two red, totaling 4,600 Fron. Also, I’ll process your fifteen requests.”
“Thank you very much.”
Oh, really? This means I’ll complete fifteen requests. Could it be that I might rank up to D-Class now?
Excitedly, I approached the counter.
“To rank up from E to D, you need to complete one hundred requests and pass a test. Additionally, you’ll need to fulfill specific gathering and subjugation requests.”
“Oh, I see.”
“Also, Lord Shu, may I ask where you’re staying?”
“That’s fine, but…”
I prompted for more information with a puzzled look.
“It’s part of our duties at the guild to keep track of each adventurer’s whereabouts.”
A very businesslike response came back.
“I see. By the way, we’re staying at the Silver Beak Inn.”
“Thank you. I’ll return your Guild Certificate now.”
Alright, that should wrap up everything we needed to do at the guild.
“I’m hungry, so let’s have dinner at the inn.”
“Yeah. I’m looking forward to seeing what they serve.”
And so, we returned to the inn after finishing our tasks.
