Chapter 304: The Mirror and the Video
“What kind of effect does the mirror you bought have?”
As the sky began to darken, Ivan asked while we were eating dinner outside the Camping House, with a table and chairs set up.
“Hmm? This one?”
I pulled the mirror out of the Dimensional Box and placed it on the table.
“By the way, I don’t actually know what effect it has.”
“What?”
“You bought it without knowing?”
Both of them looked surprised, but I didn’t buy this mirror because I wanted it.
“I just didn’t want to hand it over to that baron.”
“Haha!”
“I get it.”
As I took a bite of the miso-seasoned meat, I shoveled rice into my mouth. Recently, El’s cooking skills had improved, and the meals were becoming quite delicious.
“Well then, shall we analyze it?”
After finishing our meal and taking a moment to relax, I decided to analyze the mirror.
=====
Type: Tool
Name: Magic Mirror
Description: A mirror imbued with the effect of Analyze.
It can analyze the magical effects of whatever is reflected in it.
Quality: A
Effect: Analyze
Creator: –
=====
“It’s a Magic Mirror.”
“Oh?”
“So what can it actually do?”
As I shared the analysis results, everyone reacted in their own way.
“Is there a skill called Analyze?”
“Who knows? It seems like none of us have it, but maybe someone does?”
Even though sharpening our magic detection allows us to do something similar to analysis, the fact that we haven’t acquired the skill suggests it’s something different. The mirror was rectangular, about A4 size, adorned with beautiful decorations that exuded a sense of luxury.
When I looked into it, I saw countless Magic Circles behind me. I had been using magic regularly, just as my master instructed. When I reflected Rio in the mirror, I saw the same countless Magic Circles behind her. It seemed I was constantly activating magic that I wasn’t even aware of, but when it came to magic, I couldn’t compete with Rio anymore. This Magic Mirror was quite impressive for being able to detect such magic.
“Here.”
I handed the mirror to Rio, and she began to reflect everyone and cast magic on herself to test it out.
“Oh, this is interesting.”
“Whoa!”
“Huh?”
Ivan and El were surprised when the mirror came back around to them, showing their reflections.
“What? Do you two do this all the time?”
“It’s part of my master’s teachings.”
“Really…? I can’t sense any magic power from you at all…”
El was scanning around our backs, trying to find something. She got closer and even reached out her hand, but nothing happened.
“Still, how are those Magic Circles appearing in the mirror?”
I leaned closer to the mirror, intensifying my magic detection. I also gathered magic into my eyes and extended my magic to envelop the mirror. It felt like the magic was reflecting off the mirror. This meant that when it reflected, it was converting the magic into visible light.
So, it seemed that the magic we were using while concealed was emitting some kind of magic power, which the mirror was detecting.
“Hmm…”
Hearing my speculation, Rio focused intently while manifesting magic in her palm. As I did the same, a Magic Circle slowly began to materialize.
“Oh, could it be…?”
Moreover, I could understand the type of magic better through the mirror than I could by just looking at it. So this was the effect of the Analyze skill. When I checked myself, I found that my Analyze skill had increased.
“Ah, Shuu, that’s unfair.”
“What?”
Even if they said it was unfair, I couldn’t help it if the skill had grown. I began to activate various spells and analyze them one by one.
“Hmm, it seems like I could optimize the magic I usually use even more.”
“Is that so?”
“Even more optimization!?”
“Yeah. If I do it like this—”
I shared what I had learned through analysis with a curious Rio and a surprised El.
“Alright then, I’m going to go swap out the battery.”
After finishing my explanations, I decided to take care of my tasks.
“Okay. Take care.”
They sent me off, half-listening as they focused on optimizing their magic. I opened a hole with Dimensional Magic and emerged onto the balcony of the Apartment Building that served as our Japan Base. Once inside, I retrieved the Portable Power Source connected to the outlet and replaced it with the one that had run out of power.
“Oh, I might as well upload the video of Phonia I took earlier.”
I pulled out my smartphone and opened the video site, uploading the video of Phonia I had recorded. The quality was higher than the videos I was used to, so the file size was larger, but the upload speed was fast, and it finished quickly.
“Wow, it’s getting more views than I expected.”
When I checked the first video I posted, it had already surpassed one hundred thousand views. It was on track to reach two hundred thousand soon. As I skimmed through the comments, I noticed a message notification on my smartphone. It was from Mr. Jinpei.
“I wonder what it is?”
Upon checking the content, it was about the video I had just posted. Apparently, Phonia was becoming a topic of discussion in certain circles.
“That makes sense.”
However, that was something Phonia herself had wished for, so it wasn’t a problem. Even while shopping, people would approach her, and she seemed pleased about it.
“…What?”
However, the next message was not something to be optimistic about.
“There’s been speculation that Phonia-chan might be a resident from the other side of the dungeon in this world, stemming from a video where she spoke in their language. We need to discuss countermeasures.”
“Understood… well then.”
I found it unpleasant to be associated with those Majin Tribe folks, so it seemed I needed to do something about it. After waiting for a while with no reply, I decided to send an additional message asking when we should discuss it, then returned to the Otherworld for the night.
