Chapter 325: Creating a Network Environment
Next, I decided to try using a piece of Mithril stretched into a wire-like form, and to my surprise, the Dimensional Rift closed even faster than when I used rope. As I pondered this, I experimented with various materials and discovered that substances saturated with Magic Power were more resistant to the closing of the rift.
I suspect that the Magic Power sustaining the rift was absorbed by the Mithril.
“Alright, the prototype is complete.”
I had successfully crafted a Magic Tool capable of maintaining an open Dimensional Rift. The rope, resembling a cable, was coated in Mithril, and a Magic Stone was attached to provide the necessary power and grant it Dimensional Magic. While this Magic Tool couldn’t open a rift on its own, it was saturated with Magic Power, allowing it to maintain the rift we had created. I believed that, combined with the Dimensional Magic, it could sustain the rift for quite a long time, but I still needed to test the duration. If it turned out to be too short, I would have to use a Magic Crystal instead of a Magic Stone.
I could have experimented with an extension cord from Japan, but it was too short, and I wanted to ensure safety first. A failed experiment that resulted in a fire in the apartment building would be no laughing matter.
“For now, it would be great if it lasts at least a day.”
“Yeah, El should be able to replenish her Magic Power as well.”
From what I could tell, it should last at least a day without any replenishment. If we could refill the Magic Power, we would be fine even if we were absent for several days.
“You’re amazing, Master!”
El’s spirits were high after finishing dinner. With her enthusiasm, she almost seemed like a different person. Since we were connected to Japan, she was watching videos on a Smartphone with a stable signal.
“By the way, I received an email from Mr. Jinpei. He said the talent for the commercial has been decided, and he wants to arrange a face-to-face meeting.”
“Oh, really?”
“Haha, you don’t seem too interested… Well, neither am I.”
“Well, you see…”
I understood what Rio meant. While I sometimes turned on the TV in the apartment in Japan, there wasn’t a single person I recognized on it. It was one of the many oddities I felt while living in this version of Japan, including the road signs. I had gradually gotten used to it, but at first, it felt incredibly unsettling.
“They want us to come for a meeting at the headquarters tomorrow afternoon, so if you can make it, they’d like you to join.”
“Really?”
“I’ll go! Let’s definitely go!”
El, who had been watching videos on her Smartphone, excitedly chimed in, almost drowning out Rio’s indifferent response. I had thought she was too focused on the video to notice, but it seemed I was mistaken. Sharing a glance with Rio, we both chuckled as El glanced at her Smartphone.
Looking at it, I noticed the video was frequently pausing, the audio cutting out, and the quality was poor.
“Oh, I see.”
It seemed that just having a weak signal wasn’t enough for a decent communication environment.
“With such a small Smartphone, it’s hard to tell what’s going on…”
El’s shoulders drooped sadly. I had thought there was no point in keeping a TV that couldn’t receive signals, but if we could get an internet connection, it might be worth placing it in the Camping House. Even if terrestrial broadcasts didn’t come through, we should be able to watch online videos.
“Then how about we go shopping over there tomorrow?”
“And a face-to-face meeting too.”
“Right.”
“Alright!”
As El, slightly shedding her maid persona, pumped her fist in joy, Ivan interjected with an exasperated expression.
“What about Nil?”
Prompted by him, I turned my gaze to Nil, who looked dejected with her ears and tail drooping.
“Haha, how about you come along too?”
I continued while ruffling her neck affectionately.
“When we get there, I’ll call for you, so you don’t need to ride the train.”
“Woof!”
As soon as she heard she didn’t have to ride, her ears perked up, and she let out a delighted bark.
“Good for you!”
Phonia joined in the celebration, perhaps feeling reassured that Nil would have someone to play with while we talked with Mr. Jinpei.
“Alright, it’s settled then.”
With our plans for the next day set, we contacted Mr. Jinpei to inform him of our visit and then took a leisurely bath to unwind from the day’s fatigue.
The next day, since the face-to-face meeting was in the afternoon, I decided to take a quick look at the Forest of Enchantment in the morning and report back to the Guild Master. Some monsters had approached the town, but it was within the expected range. It didn’t seem like there was any immediate danger, so we proceeded as planned towards Japan.
By the way, the Dimensional Rift we had opened was still connected when I woke up in the morning, which I considered the best possible outcome for our experiment. I would continue the rest of the work once we returned.
“Thanks for coming.”
“Long time no see.”
After summoning Nil, I entered the usual conference room, where Jushiro was busy working on his computer. It felt like ages since I last saw him, as I had been in constant communication with Mr. Jinpei lately.
“How have things been?”
Jushiro paused his typing and initiated a conversation. As I sat across the conference table, I shared updates about our situation, while El remained fixated on the computer screen.
“Sounds like a tough world over there…”
I recounted our experiences since entering the mountainous region of the Kingdom of Faerdehelde, but I noticed Jushiro’s brow furrowing with concern.
“How is Kaede doing?”
When I asked about Kaede, who had been missing for five years since being summoned to this Otherworld, I learned that she was currently busy studying with a tutor.
“As a parent, I have to ensure she receives a proper education.”
Hearing that she was enjoying herself made me glad I could bring her back.
“By the way, I wanted to discuss something with you.”
Once our conversation reached a natural pause, I broached the subject of wanting to create a Wi-Fi environment in this Otherworld.
