Chapter 42: B Rank
“That will be a total of 28,340,000 Fron. Please accept this.”
As I stepped into the guild around midday, the receptionist led me to a private room. There, I was informed of the appraisal amounts for various parts, but honestly, I couldn’t remember the details clearly. I was too shocked when I heard that the meat alone exceeded ten million.
“…Ah, yes.”
On the table lay various coins: two platinum coins, eight large gold coins, three gold coins, and four large silver coins. I began placing the coins into the leather pouch I had pulled from my pocket. To be honest, I was surprised at how much I had sold it for.
“Unfortunately, since it was already bled out, we couldn’t buy the blood.”
For some reason, Bildine, the guild’s Submaster, was also in the room, providing me with some tidbits of information.
“You can sell blood too?”
“Ah, yes. When it comes to a B Rank Murder Raptor, its blood can be used for food or alchemy.”
Is that so…? There are sausages made from pig’s blood back on Earth. Maybe next time, I should just toss it into the time-stop box without bleeding it out.
“I didn’t realize the Murder Raptor was B Rank.”
Rio murmured in surprise, and it dawned on me that was indeed the case. That must be why the price was so much higher.
“What? You guys didn’t even know its rank?”
“I just found out.”
“…Did you not take it down yourselves?”
Bildine shot us a suspicious glance, as if he thought we had just bought the prey from somewhere.
“We defeated it properly.”
Rio, slightly annoyed by the suspicion, responded. To be honest, I couldn’t clearly remember whether it was me or Rio who had taken it down. Regardless, it wasn’t a foe we could have faced alone.
“Challenging an opponent without knowing its rank is dangerous.”
Ah, I see. It is indeed risky to face someone whose strength you can’t gauge. It’s no wonder he suspects we just snatched the prey.
“Besides, how did you manage to take it down? It’s practically unscathed. Only an A Rank adventurer could achieve something like this.”
As he finished speaking, Bildine’s gaze sharpened. I couldn’t recall doing anything that would warrant such a glare, but I wasn’t entirely innocent either.
“What are you two?”
…Huh? Does he not know we are the Summoned Heroes?
“Excuse me?”
As I tilted my head in confusion, Bildine explained further. Normally, a monster taken down by an adventurer of the same rank would be covered in wounds, and thus wouldn’t fetch a full price. At best, it would be half, and at worst, less than a tenth, which would then be divided among party members.
“So, if you managed to take this down without a scratch, that means you two are adventurers equivalent to A Rank or higher. It’s a problem that the guild isn’t aware of such capable adventurers.”
D Rank is considered a novice, C Rank is for veterans, and by the time you reach B Rank, your name is known throughout the surrounding towns. One can only imagine what A Rank entails.
“I see. So there’s no problem then.”
“Huh?”
I had tried to disguise myself a bit when entering the town, but it seemed pointless now, so I decided to drop the strange pretense.
“We’re still E Rank adventurers.”
As I presented our Guild Certificates to Bildine, who was staring at them intently, I tucked them away once he acknowledged them.
“Well then, that’s that. Thank you very much.”
I stood up hastily, intending to leave, but Bildine called out to me.
“Wait, wait! The conversation isn’t over yet!”
I had hoped to leave without further explanation, but it seemed that wouldn’t be the case.
“What is it?”
“I’m asking what you two are!”
“…I just told you we’re E Rank adventurers.”
I quietly stared at Bildine, whose temples were bulging with veins. I felt a bit of pressure, but compared to my master, it was nothing. In fact, I wondered if I could exude some intimidation myself. I had been dealing with my master until now, so I had never thought to try and intimidate anyone else.
Alright… Let’s gather my Magic Power and imagine leaping forward to sever Bildine’s head.
“An upstart adventurer having that level of skill is almost unheard of. …Could you perhaps share your past… your history… with me?”
His previously smooth speech stumbled in the latter half, and beads of sweat began to trickle down his forehead.
I felt like I was managing to intimidate him. Could it be that I had gained a new Skill?
“Hey, Shuu?”
Once again, Rio interrupted my thoughts, bringing me back to reality.
That was close. I almost slipped into the depths of Skill usage. I need to be careful; I’m not my master.
“Ah, right…”
This was a good opportunity to share some information about myself while also asking about my classmates. Fortunately, it was just the Submaster and the receptionist in this private room.
“Do you understand if I say I was summoned by the Third Princess of this country, the so-called Hero?”
Bildine’s eyes widened at my words.
“…A Hero, you say?”
Hmm? Does he know something? Intrigued, I decided to retract the image of severing his head.
