Interlude 3
“They say he was falsely accused by the Guards and left the city… is that right?”
This is the Rashiyu Trading Company, the branch in Trade City Zain. I was reviewing documents in my office while listening to my subordinate’s report, but I lifted my gaze at the uncertain and troubling news.
“What do you mean by ‘is that right’?”
“Fleur… well, um…”
“Stop being vague. I will make the judgment, so report the facts as they are.”
I believe their names were Shu and Rio. The skill they displayed in taking down their prey so elegantly could not have been honed in just a few years. For their age, they possess remarkable prowess. I had hoped to continue our association, but what could have happened?
“Yes, after breaking through the Guard’s encirclement, we received testimony that the man exited through the West Gate, but we have no leads on the woman.”
“…Missing?”
I find it hard to believe that such capable individuals would easily fall victim to anything, but what could it mean? Our acquaintance has been brief, yet my intuition tells me otherwise.
“It seems no one has seen them after they broke through the encirclement…”
I nod in agreement with my hesitant subordinate. If Shu exited through the West Gate, it is highly likely that Rio went with him.
“If the man left through the West Gate, he must be heading to the Royal Capital. Contact the branch there.”
“Understood.”
Shu and Rio could prove to be excellent business partners. I’m curious about how they transported their prey, but they seem to be hiding quite a bit. Just a hunch, of course. Perhaps I should inform the headquarters of Aresgute as well. It may take time, but with branches in every nation, they should be able to make contact no matter where they are.
“Hehehe.”
A smile crept onto my lips as I watched my subordinate leave. If those two contribute to our sales, my promotion to headquarters will surely become a reality. Having bought their goods at a slightly higher price, I’m sure my impression will linger, and my investment won’t go to waste.
“The fruits of my labor will come a little later, but I look forward to it.”
With that thought, I lowered my gaze back to the documents before me, returning to my daily tasks.
