Growth Rate Skill Maximizer – Chapter 91

Chapter 88: The First Tamed Monster

“Hey… are you okay?”

The members of the adventurer party approached cautiously, still holding their weapons at the ready, clearly on guard.

That said, I wasn’t entirely sure if I was okay either. I just had a vague feeling that everything would be fine. It felt like I had formed a connection with this wolf.

“I’m probably fine,” I replied.

Not that I really knew, but I kept that thought to myself. Somehow, I sensed that the wolf was communicating its desire for food. Was it just here to mooch off us?

“I want to touch it too!”

As I responded to the adventurers, Rio joined in, eagerly enjoying the wolf’s fluffy fur. I decided to take this opportunity to retrieve the bone the wolf had been chewing on. It seemed the adventurers behind me were unaware of my little operation, hidden from their view.

“What on earth is going on…?”

“Is that a Great Dragon…?! Where did it come from?”

It appeared to be a party of five. From what I could see, there was a swordsman, a heavy warrior, a scout, and two female mages. They seemed to have a well-balanced party.

“I’m Wyatt, and we’re the B Rank party ‘Heavenly Wolf Fang.’ Sorry, but could I ask you a few questions?”

The scout approached, keeping an eye on the wolf that was busy munching on its food. It seemed he was the leader of this party.

“Uh, I’m Shu, an E Rank adventurer. I’m fine with talking as long as it’s within reason.”

“E Rank?!”
“Wait, what?!”

The other members seemed shocked, but I decided to ignore their reactions to keep the conversation flowing.

“Um, first off, why are you here?”

“We were asked to check on the Lumberyard.”

“Oh, I see… That shouldn’t be a problem then.”

Wyatt muttered to himself, seemingly satisfied with my answer.

“Now, about this Frozevitnir… what exactly is going on? It looks like it’s been tamed.”

“Oh, you noticed? I had a feeling it was the case too.”

“Huh?”

“Could it be that you’re unaware of it…?”

The lively female mage behind him chimed in.

“I tried to tame it before, but it didn’t work out. So this is my first success.”

I chuckled awkwardly, only to be met with a confused look from the swordsman. Yeah, I didn’t quite understand it either.

“However… to think you have a tamed S Rank Frozevitnir… it’s unbelievable.”

Seriously? Is this thing really S Rank? I observed the wolf as it opened its massive jaws to bite into the Great Dragon. The Silver Wolf is C Rank, right? Then comes the Heavenly Wolf, followed by the Frozevitnir. So, it should be A Rank next. Did it skip a rank somewhere along the way?

“By the way, the prey it’s eating looks like a Great Dragon…”

Ah, that’s true. Well, I wasn’t hiding it, so I guess it’s fine to admit it.

“That’s a Great Dragon. I took it down in the Forest of Enchantment.”

“The Forest of Enchantment…?”

While the commercial nation doesn’t directly border it, it’s well-known as a den of monsters. I doubt anyone is unaware of it.

“A Great Dragon is A Rank…”

Oh, I see. This is quite the learning experience.

“Anyway, we need to report this to the Guild. Would you come with us? We can discuss the details there.”

“Ah, sure.”

I agreed while glancing at the wolf, which was still munching away beside me. What should I do with it?

“If you want to keep it as a tamed monster, you’ll need to register it at the Guild.”

“Now that you mention it, you’re right.”

Either way, I had to take it with me. It would be a waste to release it after finally taming it. Plus, this fluffiness is addictive. Rio hadn’t stopped petting it since we got here.

After a while, the wolf seemed satisfied and lay down, letting out a big yawn.

“Are you satisfied?”

“Woof!”

When I spoke to it, it responded. With its size, the sound was quite loud in my ear…

Rio, who had been glued to my side, seemed to snap back to reality as the wolf changed its position.

“Well then, let’s get going.”

“Understood.”

We had completed our request, so there were no issues. The Lumberyard that the wolf had wrecked wasn’t part of the Rashiyu Trading Company, so everything was fine. The members of ‘Heavenly Wolf Fang’ would surely complete their request as well.

As I stored the leftover bones in my Dimensional Box, the adventurers were surprised again, but right now, returning to the Guild was our priority. As the seven of us started walking, the wolf stood up and followed us. It was still huge…

“You can’t even fit into the city, can you…?”

“Woof…”

I muttered, and it seemed to hear me, letting out a sad whine as its ears drooped.

“I wish you could shrink down.”

At Rio’s words, the wolf’s ears perked up straight.

“Woahhhhhh!”

With a single howl, the wolf’s body began to glow. In the next moment, it had shrunk down to the size of a large dog.

“No way.”

“That’s impossible.”

What a convenient creature. This size is much more manageable for petting, so it’s perfect.

“You’ve gotten smaller. Now it’s easier to pet you.”

Rio nodded with a bright smile.

Now that it could enter the city, I wondered about the inn. Surely, it couldn’t stay in the same room as us. Well, I guess I could ask the innkeeper about that.

With our request completed, we returned to the city, filled with excitement.
