Chapter 89: For the Time Being, Relief
Despite a bit of a commotion at the entrance of the town, we managed to enter safely. The gatekeeper mistook the wolf for a Silver Wolf, but that shouldn’t pose any problems. Wyatt-san believes that it’s better to let them remain mistaken, as it would cause less confusion.
“Is the Guild Master here?”
As soon as we stepped into the Guild, Wyatt-san called out towards the back. More eyes than usual were drawn to us. The attention was likely due to our association with a B Rank adventurer party and the wolf that had become our tamed monster.
“Oh, Wyatt-san. The Guild Master is in a separate room, listening to Kilwell-san about the monsters that have appeared in the Forest…”
“In that case, lead me there. I have additional information.”
“P-Please wait a moment!”
The staff member who emerged hurriedly retreated to the back. Good, maybe I’ll have a little time to spare? I was at my limit of patience. I had been itching to do something, but waiting for a bit was fine.
So, I approached the wolf, who had been sticking closely to my side, and began to pet its head.
“Fwooooh!”
So fluffy and soft.
“Ah, Shuu, that’s unfair!”
Rio joined in, starting to pet the wolf as well. What a troublesome girl. I’ll just have to attack its neck.
“Wuffuuuh!”
The wolf seemed to enjoy the attention, narrowing its eyes in bliss.
“You guys… have no sense of urgency…”
Wyatt-san’s exasperated voice reached us, but I ignored it. When else would I get to enjoy this fluffiness if not now?
“Thank you for waiting. Please proceed to the back room.”
However, my moment of bliss was cut short. Guided by the staff member, we reluctantly headed towards the back room. After knocking, the staff announced that they had brought the members of “Heavenly Wolf Fang” and opened the door. Inside was a petite woman with pointed ears and the adventurer who had been keeping watch at the entrance of the Forest.
“Thank you for your hard work. I heard you have additional information…”
Could it be that this petite elf is the Guild Master? She’s not much taller than me, with striking blue hair and azure eyes.
“And who are the two behind you, along with the wolf?”
The elf girl cast a suspicious glance at us, to which Wyatt-san replied, “That’s the main topic for today.” We introduced ourselves as well.
“I’m Frances, the Guild Master here.”
“…I’m Kilwell, a C Rank adventurer.”
To my surprise, the Guild Master was a tomboyish girl. What kind of Guild is this? It’s wrong to judge by appearances, but she certainly lacks an air of authority.
There weren’t enough chairs for everyone, so only Wyatt-san sat next to Kilwell-san. The wolf, on the other hand, lay down on the floor, resting its chin on its front paws, looking utterly relaxed. But calling it just a wolf feels off. I should think of a name for it.
“First, I want to confirm something. How much do you know about the appearance of Frozevitnir?”
“We’ve only spoken to the Guild Master about it.”
“Right. I was just thinking about what to do after hearing the report.”
“You haven’t spoken about it publicly, then?”
I confirmed with Kilwell-san, who nodded repeatedly. It seemed they had made an effort to avoid confusion.
“Good to hear.”
Letting out a sigh of relief, I looked around at everyone and slowly spoke.
“That Frozevitnir is the wolf that’s here with us.”
“Eh?”
“Huh?”
The gazes of the Guild Master and Kilwell-san shifted to the tamed monster.
“No way, when I saw it, it was over six or seven meters long!”
Kilwell-san continued with a half-smile, “Please stop joking,” but the Guild Master’s sharp gaze remained fixed on the tamed monster. Despite being the center of attention, the wolf seemed unfazed, letting out a big yawn. When the Guild Master turned to Wyatt-san, he nodded solemnly.
“It seems to be Frozevitnir without a doubt…”
The Guild Master gulped audibly.
“Wait, are you serious…?”
“Yeah, what would I gain by lying? It’s the result of the Appraisal Skill, so the species name can be verified easily.”
“Appraisal… but its size…”
“When it comes to higher-tier monsters, some can change their size and appearance. That’s the nature of an S Rank monster.”
“…”
Kilwell-san fell silent at the Guild Master’s explanation. However, it’s a relief that they have the Appraisal Skill; I’m curious about how much they can discern from it.
“Ah, I’ve actually seen this wolf shrink, so there’s no doubt.”
“So, since this Frozevitnir has become a tamed monster, we can consider the immediate threat resolved, right?”
“Yeah, that’s correct.”
“T-Tamed monster…”
“Hmmm… If someone from ‘Heavenly Wolf Fang’ had tamed it, that would make sense, but with E Rank Shu and Rio here…”
“Yes, that’s right. This tamed monster is one I have tamed. So, I’d like to request its registration.”
“A tamed monster of S Rank…”
Kilwell-san muttered in disbelief at my words, while the Guild Master let out a deep sigh and looked up at the ceiling.
