Chapter 95: Recent Days
“Ah, it’s finally over, finally over!”
Feeling a sense of accomplishment, I wiped the sweat from my forehead with my arm.
“Haha, I understand how you feel, but it’s not over yet. In fact, it’s just the beginning!”
“Well, that’s true. But didn’t that feel a bit like submitting a marriage registration back in Japan?”
“Eh…?”
Rio’s eyes widened in shock, and after a moment of silence, she remained frozen. I waved my hand in front of her face, but she didn’t react at all. It seemed the term “marriage registration” hadn’t fully registered in her mind. Oh, her face is turning red.
“M-marriage registration…?”
“Well, in Japan, when you submit it, you… um, become a couple, so it’s a bit different here. But when it comes to submitting documents in this world, I can’t think of anything else it could refer to.”
“Y-yeah…”
She looked down, trying to hide her flushed face, but her ears were bright red as well.
“Anyway, all that’s left now is the main event!”
“Yeah!”
With those words, Rio lifted her face, her expression bright and cheerful.
“Woof!”
Nil chimed in, agreeing enthusiastically. It seems he understands what we’re talking about. I might have to test him out on a few things next time…
“Alright, let’s head back today and practice some Earth Magic with metal!”
“Haha!”
“My stock of Iron Ore is running low, so it might be a good idea to head back to the mine for a refill.”
“That sounds good. I want to restock on Iron Ore too.”
“And then there’s that… I want to practice Teleportation magic as well.”
“Now that you mention it, that magic does exist.”
That was the spell that the annoying princess tried to activate but failed miserably. If I could master it, it might come in handy.
“Especially if we ever find ourselves trapped in a mine due to a cave-in. I could blast through the mine tunnel, but if I ended up buried alive, that would be a nightmare.”
“That’s no joke…”
“Right? I’ve always thought of that magic as the princess’s useless spell, but I’ve come to realize it might actually be useful.”
“That’s true… If we can use it, it would definitely be convenient. I’ll practice it too.”
With that decided, it was time to start our training.
“Hmm… Teleportation is harder than I thought…”
Three days had passed since then, and we still hadn’t succeeded in mastering the Teleportation spell. I had a vague image of it in my mind, but it was just that—vague.
“I can transfer objects now, but… it’s still tricky.”
“Exactly. I just want to move a little bit…”
I had managed to move stones from one place to another and bring them back to my hands. This felt like a simple application of the Dimensional Box, but when it came to teleporting myself, the difficulty skyrocketed. After all, I couldn’t just step into the Dimensional Box.
“Ugh, maybe I need to think about it more logically.”
Connecting the space I’m in to the destination… But that feels like I’d have to move through the connected space myself. I want to just pop over there without having to move at all.
Oh, by the way, ever since Nil became my tamed monster, I haven’t felt that strange presence anymore. While practicing magic outside, Nil seemed bored and casually mentioned going for a little walk before disappearing. Well, he didn’t actually say it, but I could sense that intention.
At that moment, the eerie presence vanished as well, but the details remain unclear. Perhaps Nil picked up on my annoyance at him following me around today.
“By the way, where did Nil go? He’s not here today either.”
“Ah, it seems he went for another walk. Even while we’re practicing magic, he seems to find it boring.”
“That’s true… I feel a bit bad about it…”
“Haha, maybe I’ll play with Nil next time.”
“Alright, let’s get started… Ready, set!”
At Rio’s call, I lined up next to Nil, pulling back my right foot and channeling my magic power, ready to dash off. Nil lowered his body, eager and ready to go.
“Ready…”
While I was working with metal using Earth Magic in our usual spot, Nil had started playing with me, clearly bored. I thought I should entertain him, so I decided to measure his speed.
From Nil, I could sense he was ready to run.
“Go!”
With the signal, I explosively released the power I had stored in my legs. Nil shot off with a similar explosive sound, but he was definitely faster than me…
“Damn it, I can’t lose!”
Heading west, I was on a collision course with the Heavenly Wolf Forest. As I gradually fell behind Nil, I decided to take to the skies.
Activating Wind Magic, I pushed off the ground and soared into the air, increasing my speed. Just as I was about to overtake Nil, he noticed and began to leap into the air as well.
I was flying, but Nil seemed to be walking through the air. I wondered if that was also a skill as I flew, and before I knew it, I was above the forest.
Running on the ground, I couldn’t compete with Nil. Four-legged running was definitely an unfair advantage. In the air, however, I had never tested how fast I could go. I had never fully unleashed my abundant magic power, but here, I felt confident I wouldn’t lose to Nil.
“I win!”
After overtaking Nil by a good margin, I stopped and waited for him in mid-air. When he came barreling toward me, I caught him with ease.
“Woof! Hey, stop that!”
He started licking my face and didn’t seem to want to stop.
“Hahaha!”
Before long, Rio arrived, bursting into laughter.
“Maybe he’s a little jealous.”
“Yeah, I think so.”
I could sense his determination to win next time, so I was probably right. As we spent time together, the day finally came when our furniture was completed.
