Chapter 9: The Golem’s Rare Drop!
With the Demon’s Blade in hand, I decided to immediately take on a more challenging quest.
“Alright… this is the one.”
[Golem Subjugation]
Subjugate one Golem that has appeared in a C-Rank Dungeon.
I tore the paper with that written on it from the quest board and brought it to the Adventurer’s Guild reception.
Apparently, a Golem had shown up in an odd place.
Normally, Golems are B-Rank monsters.
For one to appear in a C-Rank dungeon means it’s extremely dangerous for the C-Rank adventurers who use it as their hunting ground.
That’s why, in such cases, subjugation quests like this are posted.
“I’d like to take this quest…”
“Yes, understood. Please wait a moment…”
There were several reception counters, but I requested the quest from Salina-san.
It’s not like I particularly wanted to talk to Salina-san.
It just so happened that her counter was free.
“…Hey, Loin-san, this… this is a Golem subjugation quest, you know!? Are you aware of that!?”
“Eh…? Yes, I’m aware, but…?”
Well, it’s no wonder she’s surprised.
After all, until just the other day, I was a man who couldn’t even defeat a Slime.
“Surely, it’s dangerous!?”
“It’s alright. I’m not the same man I was before.”
“I-Indeed… that sword looks incredible.”
“Yes, it’s the perfect opponent to test this thing out on.”
Golems. They are monsters with excellent physical durability.
Ordinary swords can’t even scratch them, which is why they’re designated as B-Rank threats.
Of course, they’re not an opponent that someone like me, at the lowest adventurer rank, could normally face.
But with this sword—the Demon’s Blade—it’s a different story.
I’ve never seen a sword with this much power, not even among the equipment of A-Rank adventurers.
“Well, just leave it to me! I’ll defeat it in no time.”
“S-Somehow, Loin-san, you’ve become much tougher lately…!”
“Eh… You think so…?”
“I’ll be expecting great things from you from now on!”
Receiving Salina-san’s enthusiastic encouragement, my morale rose even higher.
And so, alone, carrying a huge weapon on my back, I delved into the dungeon.
◇
“So this is the place…”
I reached the designated location, but there was no sign of any Golem whatsoever.
Is it because Golems are non-living beings…?
As I was wandering around the area where the Golem was supposed to be…
Rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble!
“Wh-What the…!? An earthquake…?”
The ground beneath my feet began to shake.
Earthquakes are common in dungeons, but… this somehow feels different from those.
“No way…!?”
When I happened to look down at my feet, I noticed the color of the ground was slightly different from its surroundings.
“Th-This thing is the Golem…!?”
That’s right. Apparently, I had been standing on top of a colossal Golem.
“This isn’t what I was told…”
According to the information on the quest sheet, it was supposed to be a Golem of perfectly normal size, but…
This thing is absolutely massive!?
I’d heard that Golems can grow enormous by incorporating surrounding rocks and minerals into their bodies.
The monster known as a Golem forms its body by gathering surrounding materials, and its true essence is the core within it.
“Still, isn’t this way too big…?”
To think it was so huge I didn’t even realize I was standing on it…
Perhaps while the quest was left untouched for a long time, it absorbed debris from around the dungeon and grew larger.
Nobody wants to take on Golem subjugation quests, after all.
“But…! It’s more than a worthy opponent to test out this Demon’s Blade!”
The Golem slowly raised its colossal body.
Trying not to lose my balance, I skillfully moved across its surface.
I somehow managed to reach the Golem’s shoulder and drew my sword.
“UOOOOOOOOH! Take this! Become the first prey for the Demon’s Blade!”
SHRAAAAAACK!
I swung the massive hunk of iron down towards the crown of the Golem’s head.
Rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble.
It seemed the Golem’s core was located in its head, and I succeeded in shattering it with a single blow.
“I did it…!”
Even though I’d struck the Golem’s tough body, my weapon didn’t have a single nick on its blade.
As expected of a weapon made using 44 pieces of Demonite Ore.
CRUUUUMBLE…
With its core destroyed, the rocks and debris that formed the Golem’s body crumbled and fell away.
I somehow managed to keep my balance and land on the ground.
“That’s right… the drop item.”
I sifted through the rubble to find the Golem’s core.
The drop item was lying next to the shattered core.
“Found it…!”

Description: A rock commonly known as Dragon Star.
“Th-This is…!? It’s a Dragon Star!”
True to its name, Dragon Star Rock is a special kind of rock engraved with star-like patterns.
It’s a material also known as a “dragon’s lost item,” and it has the effect of strongly repelling magic.
“This is another great material!”
I’ll take this to an armorer.
I’m sure they can make a powerful shield with it.
