Chapter 10: Getting Harassed at the Guild
After defeating the Golem, I returned to town.
I decided to visit the armorer later; first, I had to report to the Adventurer’s Guild.
“Salina-san…! I’ve completed the quest.”
I presented the core fragment, proof of defeating the Golem, and the quest sheet at the counter.
Salina-san looked at me with an expression of disbelief.
“Eh…? Roine-san, didn’t you just leave a little while ago?”
“Ah, well… yes, that’s right. A few hours ago.”
I managed to defeat the Golem more easily than I expected, so it didn’t take much time.
All thanks to this super rare weapon.
“Y-You’ve already defeated it?! And, really, a Golem all by yourself?! You, Roine-san?!”
“Y-Yes… well. I guess you could say I’m not the same person I used to be.”
“I’m astonished… You might even be commended as this month’s MVP.”
“I-I’ll do my best!”
Well, even if I don’t make MVP, there’s no doubt my adventurer rank will significantly increase this month.
When your adventurer rank goes up, you also get quest bonuses accordingly.
The Guild wants capable adventurers to take on jobs, after all.
“Phew… But, as expected, I’m tired. Maybe I’ll rest for today.”
After receiving my reward from Salina-san, I sat down at a table inside the Guild.
And I was vaguely gazing at the quest board from a distance.
That’s when someone spoke to me from behind.
They probably recognized me because I had taken off my helmet.
“Oi, isn’t that Roine…?”
Ugh… Ghuftok.
When I turned around, the members of the party that had expelled me were standing there.
Ghuftok looked even more ill-tempered than usual.
If possible, I never wanted to see them again…
“…Ghuftok.”
“Oi, Roine, you weakling, what’s with that gear! Playing the part of a real adventurer, huh? Eh? You didn’t steal that weapon, did you?”
He’s as unpleasant as ever…
Well, I knew it would come to this eventually.
If I kept coming in and out of the Guild, Ghuftok was bound to find me.
And it was obvious he’d pick a fight and find fault with me like this.
“Sorry, Ghuftok, but I obtained all of this through my own efforts. I’m not the same as when I was with you.”
“Huh? You, who couldn’t even defeat a Slime? Seems like you haven’t learned your lesson even after I broke your arm, huh? This time, shall I make it so you can never recover?”
Ghuftok snorted, his breath heavy, and rolled up his sleeves.
He probably couldn’t stand seeing me, whom he looked down on, with rare equipment.
Still, he’s such a hothead.
“If you think you can…!”
“Die, you bastard!”
Ghuftok drew his sword and lunged at me.
I parried it with my Demon’s Blade.
The Demon’s Blade is the ultimate weapon, lavishly made with the strongest ore—Demonite Ore.
What would happen if Ghuftok’s ordinary weapon struck something like that…?
—Snap!
That’s right, Ghuftok’s sword snapped as easily as a wooden twig.
“Wh-What…?!”
“You say I can’t even defeat a Slime…? Can you still think that after seeing this weapon…?”
“Y-You bastard! What is that weapon…?!”
“This…? It’s a custom-made piece using 44 Demonite Ores.”
I proudly held up the weapon, showing it off.
Since it’s come to this, I’ll give him a thorough payback.
Make it so he never thinks of bothering me again.
My life is finally getting on track, and I’d rather not have him interfere.
Nothing good ever comes from getting involved with Ghuftok.
“F-Forty-four Demonite Ores?!”
The woman in Ghuftok’s entourage behind him cried out in surprise.
I think her name was Natalia, or something…?
I seem to recall she was a Tamer.
I’m not interested in women who fawn over Ghuftok and act scared, so my memory of her is vague.
“D-Don’t talk nonsense!”
“It’s not nonsense. It was made with materials I gathered myself.”
“Damn it…! Why the hell is a worthless weakling like you in this situation! Were you hiding your strength when you were with me…!? You really are a fraud!”
“Huh? Who’s the fraud here? Weren’t you the ones who didn’t believe in my potential and never let me carry any weapons, not even a knife?”
That’s right. Ghuftok never let me carry any weapons, not even a knife, saying I might betray them.
Truth be told, even I would have enough power to attack someone in their sleep and kill them if I just had a knife.
But, of course, I had no intention of doing such a thing.
Well, I didn’t intend to fight at all, though.
Naturally, since I had joined the party on the condition that I wouldn’t have to fight.
“Anyway, could you just stop bothering me from now on?”
“What did you say, you bastard! You, who couldn’t even defeat a Slime! You’ve gotten pretty cheeky!”
“Ah, that’s right. I couldn’t defeat them. But now, I can. Even Golems.”
“Wh-What…! A Golem, solo…?”
Well, for a poser adventurer like Ghuftok, taking on a Golem solo would probably be tough.
They’d likely only manage it as a party.
“Here, as proof.”
“…!?”
I took out the 【Dragon Star Rock】 from my pocket.
It was the rare drop material I’d just obtained from the Golem.
“Wh-What…!? Dragon Star Rock…!? Dragon Star…!? That’s a rare drop you wouldn’t get even if you defeated 100 Golems!”
“Now you understand, don’t you? I don’t need you guys anymore. Thanks for expelling me. It really opened my eyes.”
“Huh…?”
“You obtain what you want yourself. You do what you want to do yourself. That’s what being an adventurer is all about, right?”
“So what about it…!”
“You tried to rely on uncertain rumors like my luck without putting in any effort yourself. But I earned this myself. So, I won’t let you complain. This is a rare drop I won with my own hands.”
Ghuftok just stood there, trembling and silent, showing no signs of leaving anytime soon.
So, I had no choice but to try and leave the spot myself.
“Oi! Where are you going!”
“Just back to my inn, but?”
“Damn it…! You’ll regret this!”
“No… I’d rather never see you again, though…?”
Provoking him any further seemed like it would be troublesome, so I practically fled back to my inn.
I won’t forget the look on Ghuftok’s face…
And so, praying I would never meet them again, I fell asleep.
