Guaranteed Rare Drops – Chapter 6

Chapter 5: The First Quest

Around the time my broken bone had mostly healed—
I finally felt up to going to the Guild and accepting a quest, so I nervously passed through the Guild’s gates.
I quickly scanned the assembly hall, but it seemed those guys weren’t around.
If Ghuftok had been there, I would have turned right back…

Well, I chose to come in the early morning specifically to avoid that.

“Thank goodness…”

Relieved, I stepped inside and stood before the quest board.
Naturally, there were few adventurers diligent enough to be active at this hour.
My pure white armor was standing out conspicuously.

Perhaps finding me suspicious, the receptionist-san, who was still in the middle of preparations, called out to me.
It seemed she remembered me.

“Um… could you be Loin-san!?”
“Ah, yes… Receptionist-san. Back then, thank you for the blanket and everything.”

“What’s with that outfit!”
“Well… it’s just that… I’ve become able to defeat Slimes.”

“Is that so! That’s amazing! I’m so glad. You were working so hard, Loin-san…”
“Ah, thank you very much. Um…”

I wanted to say, “It’s all thanks to you, Ms. XX!” but I still didn’t know this receptionist-san’s name.
My gaze drifted to her chest.
No, it’s not like I wanted to look at her chest or anything…
There, her name was written on a nameplate.

“Thank you very much, Salina-san.”
“Fufu… Loin-san, you were just looking at my chest, weren’t you?”

“Wh-Whaaat!? No way!”
“Well, it’s fine, though…! Since you were working so hard, Loin-san, consider it a reward.”

I’ve been falsely accused…
But, is this really okay…!?
I couldn’t help but stare intently at her chest.

“Alright! Time’s up! No more looking, okay! Come on, are you here to accept a quest?”
“Ah, right… A quest.”

Salina-san, she’s kind of an elusive person, isn’t she?
Somehow, was I skillfully teased?
But, she’s a beautiful person.
Her brown, curled hair is lovely.

“Um… Salina-san. Are there any quests for items with low drop rates…?”

Yes, what I naturally chose was a delivery quest for that kind of rare item.

“Alright… this must be the place.”

Relying on the information Salina-san had given me, I arrived at the location where the target monster resided.
It was a dungeon close to town.

Apparently, a considerably rare item could be obtained from the Gargoyles living in this dungeon.

“Let’s go!”

I ran around the dungeon single-mindedly.

“Where are you, where are you, where are you, where aaare yooouuu!”

I have no business with other monsters; I’m here for you, Gargoyle-chan!

“Gigigigigi!”

“There! Is that it!”

After a while, I spotted the target monster.
No choice but to defeat it immediately…!

“Take this…!”

—Vsh!

“Damn it…! Don’t dodge!”

The Gargoyle flew through the air, skillfully evading my attacks.

“Come down! Dammit. I can’t seem to hit it.”

This might take a while to defeat… Just as I was thinking that.

“Alright! It’s just a little, but I grazed it!”

—Zshaaaaa!

An unbelievable amount of blood gushed out from where my sword had grazed it.
Why…? I only hit it slightly!

The Gargoyle then staggered and fell to the ground.

“I see… This sword’s ability…!”

I recall it said something about having a rare instant death effect…
Still, for that instant death effect to trigger on the very first try.
Is this also related to my good luck…?

“Anyway, that’s one Gargoyle subjugated!”

However, this isn’t a subjugation quest.
It’s a delivery quest for a rare item.

“It’d be great if it drops on the first try…”

I nervously approached the Gargoyle’s corpse.

“…! Bingo…!”

《Demonite Ore》
Rarity ★★★★★★
Drop Rate 0.01%
Description: A suspicious, black, glowing ore. It’s unknown where it can be mined, but monsters are sometimes found holding it.

“I’ve never seen an ore of this color…!”

This was an ore that you could tell was a rare item just by looking at it.
Since it’s unknown where it can be mined, that must mean it’s extremely valuable.
Are these creatures bringing it from that unknown location?

“This must be usable for crafting equipment…”

But, gathering enough of such a small ore to make a weapon would take a considerable amount of time, wouldn’t it…?

“Well, if it’s me, it’ll be quick…!”

And just like that, I defeated Gargoyle after Gargoyle!
I succeeded in bringing back 45 Demonite Ores.
With this much, there should surely be enough to make a weapon.

“Eh… you gathered all of this…?”

When I returned to the Guild, Salina-san was actually completely taken aback.

“Huh? Was that bad…?”
“No, it’s not that, but… The request was for only one.”

“Eeeeeeeh!? Then aren’t these other 44 useless!?”
“Yes, that would be the case…”

Seriously…?
Well, if that’s so, I guess I can sell them for money.
Better yet, I could even use them to make a weapon myself.

“More importantly, this is unbelievable. This is a super rare item, you know?”
“Is that so…?”

“Yes, Gargoyles themselves are relatively weak monsters, you see. But because the drop rate is so incredibly low, no one would take this quest… I offered it to you thinking it was a long shot, but… to think you’d gather this many… Loin-san, who on earth are you!?”
“Nah… I just happened to find a lot of them by chance…”

Could it be that I’ve done something outrageous?
I’ll have to ask Salina-san to keep quiet about this later.
One wrong step, and this could turn into a real hassle.

“So, Loin-san, you were actually this amazing all along…”
“Well… I wonder about that.”

“With this, the day Loin-san sheds his reputation as the eternal bottom-ranker and shines at the top of the adventurer ranks is near!”
“W-Well… I’ll do my best…!”

In the end, since only one ore was needed, I got to take the remaining 44 back with me.
Apparently, even such a small amount of ore is a valuable material that can be used for things like coating in crafting.

“But, was it really okay to receive so much for just one…?”

I received a whopping 30,000G for just that one quest.
If I were to sell all of them, just how much would that be…!?

“Alright, I’m not particularly short on money, so I’ll take these to a weapon shop and have them processed.”

If I lavishly use 44 pieces of this new ore, rumored to create a considerably powerful weapon even with just one, just what kind of ultimate weapon will end up being created…!?
I couldn’t help but look forward to it.
