Chapter 60: I Won’t Stop Healing Until You Recover!
…This is no time to be worrying about mock group battles or who the commander is.
Lecty had already begun tending to the injured, and Rouge and I decided to split up and start the rescue efforts. Idiot was heading over to mediate between those still fighting.
“Lecty, are you okay?”
“Y-yes! Hugh, please support this person’s body…!”
“Got it.”
The person Lecty was trying to heal was a noble boy belonging to Prince Slay’s faction. He was one of Idiot’s entourage, crouched down while holding his leg.
“Please show me your wound so I can treat it.”
“Ugh… Don’t touch me so casually, you lowborn!”
The boy tried to roughly swat away Lecty’s hand as she reached for him.
“You—”
“It doesn’t matter!”
In that moment, as I hurriedly tried to stop her, Lecty, who usually didn’t raise her voice much, shouted out. The boy’s eyes widened in surprise.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re lowborn or noble! I have the skill of a Holy Maiden that can heal injuries, and you are an injured person. Therefore, I will heal you! Please show me your wound…!”
“…Uh, alright.”
Overwhelmed by Lecty’s intensity, the boy stopped resisting and revealed his injury. The affected area was a deep purple, swollen, and bleeding. It looked like he might have a fracture.
“Heal!”
With Lecty’s skill, the wound began to heal almost instantly.
“Is this the power of a Holy Maiden’s skill…?”
The boy murmured as he watched the process. Soon, the discolored skin returned to its original color, and there wasn’t a scar left behind.
“I think you’re fine now, but since the wound just closed, please rest for a while.”
“Y-yeah…”
As the boy stared blankly, Lecty moved on to another classmate nearby. This time, it was a commoner girl. She quietly received Lecty’s treatment while asking her a question.
“Why are you treating nobles? You’re a commoner, right…? Don’t you have any resentment towards them?”
“…It would be a lie to say I don’t. I’ve had unpleasant and frightening experiences. But both Lily and Hugh, who helped me, are nobles. I don’t think they helped me just because they’re nobles and I’m a commoner. That’s why I want to help everyone, regardless of whether they’re noble or commoner…!”
“……I see.”
The girl seemed to ponder Lecty’s words, falling silent as she watched her injury heal.
…That’s not right, Lecty. On the day of the entrance exam, I was so afraid of my brainwashing skill being exposed that I almost abandoned you when Idiot was bothering you.
It was only because Lily showed up that I ended up helping you, but if she hadn’t been there, I probably wouldn’t have helped you at all.
I’m not a person worthy of being compared to you, Lecty.
…So at the very least, I’ll try to become that kind of person from now on.
While Lecty continued healing with her Holy Maiden skill, Rouge and I focused on providing first aid to the injured. We bandaged the wounds of those who were bleeding and stabilized the suspected fractures with splints. For the more severe injuries, we called Lecty over for priority treatment.
Just as we finished treating nearly half of the injured, a sound reached us from afar—branches clashing together and the impact of something heavy falling.
What was that…?
If I had my Ninja skill, I might have been able to pinpoint the source, but right now, I was focused on Swordsmanship. My senses were sharper than usual, but I still couldn’t identify the location immediately.
“Someone—!”
Next, I heard a girl’s voice mixed with a scream. I told Rouge to stay back for a moment and ran toward the direction of the sound. About fifty meters away, I spotted a girl collapsing near a fallen tree.
Is that Ann Traj?
A central figure among Prince Slay’s faction. She noticed my approach and shouted, “Help me!”
“Brown shielded me, and now he’s trapped under the tree…!”
“What—”
I rushed over to the fallen tree, where Brown was face down, a pained expression on his face.
“Hang in there, Brown! Just wait, I’ll get you out!”
“Hugh… Hypnosis, huh? A noble helping a commoner…?”
“Is this really the time to be talking about nobles and commoners?!”
I immediately tried to lift the tree off Brown, but realized it was far too heavy for me to manage alone. If I moved it carelessly, I could cause him even more harm.
What do I do…!? Should I switch skills here…!?
No, calm down…! If I do that, my brainwashing skill will be exposed. Am I really willing to throw away everything I’ve built just to save Brown…!?
But I can’t just let him die…!
“Hugh!”
“Hugh, what happened!?”
Just as I was about to reach into my pocket, Lecty and Idiot arrived. Thank goodness…!
“Help me! Brown is trapped under the tree!”
“No way…!”
“Ugh, let’s hurry!”
Lecty and Idiot lent their strength to move the tree, but even with both of them having Physical Enhancement, it was still difficult to lift. If we could just raise it a little, we could drag Brown out…!
It seemed that the commotion had attracted attention. Classmates whom Lecty had treated began to gather around.
“Anyone, please help us!”
At my call, no one moved immediately. But among them, two students approached—one was the noble boy who had been treated by Lecty, and the other was the commoner girl. Following them, other students rushed over to help lift the tree.
“On the count of three, everyone lift! One, two, three!”
With a collective shout, ten of us finally managed to lift the tree. In that moment, Ann and a girl from Prince Brute’s faction pulled Brown’s body free.
“Brown, stay with us!”
“Ugh…”
Brown’s response was sluggish at Ann’s call. His face was pale, and he was coughing up blood. He must have sustained internal injuries. There were likely fractures in the part of his body that had been pinned down. Even if we rushed him to a medical facility now, it didn’t look like he would survive.
Should I use my brainwashing skill this time? Just as I thought that, Lecty rushed over to Brown.
“I will definitely save you…! Heal!”
Lecty activated her skill to treat Brown.
However, she had already used her skill dozens of times to heal others. The strain from continuous use was clearly taking its toll on her, and fatigue was evident on her face.
“Don’t push yourself, Lady Lecty! At this rate, you’ll—!”
“…Please, don’t stop. Keep going, Idiot.”
“I-I can’t just stand by…!”
I understood Idiot’s feelings. Seeing Lecty’s pained expression made me want to switch skills and take over the healing immediately.
…But I’d never seen Lecty look so desperate before. Maybe she was trying to break out of her shell right now. If that’s the case, I didn’t want to interfere.
If Lecty collapsed partway through, I would do my best to handle the situation.
So,
“Just a little more…! Hang in there, Lecty!”
“Ugh… Lecty, hold on…!”
Following me and Idiot, our classmates who could only watch offered their encouragement to Lecty. Brown’s wounds began to heal little by little, and his complexion gradually improved.
Meanwhile, Lecty’s own complexion was visibly deteriorating.
“Ugh, uuuuuuuugh!”
In the end, she gritted her teeth and let out a groan, pushing her skill to the limit.
Eventually,
“It’s done—”
“Lecty!”
As Lecty’s body began to fall backward, I caught her.
She was sweating profusely, her face pale from exhaustion, yet she wore a look of accomplishment. Brown remained unconscious, but the visible wounds had healed. His complexion was no longer bad. Lecty had completed the treatment.
“Good job. You really did well, Lecty.”
“Yes…!”
She smiled and nodded at my praise, then, filled with a sense of fulfillment, she lost consciousness.
