Episode 14: Wyvern Hunting ○
Worm-sensei, who has been helping me out every time I evolve. Today, as always, they are diligently eating weeds. No matter how many of these worms I hunt, they show no sign of disappearing. I don’t really understand the mechanism, but it’s a great help to me.
Now, since this time I seem to be a Magic Specialist Type, I’ll have them defeated with magic. I’ll use the “Wind Magic” and “Earth Magic” that I just learned to defeat the worms. Both are at Lv 5, so I only have access to the 5th tier “Air Cutter” and “Stone Needle.”
Air Cutter is a magic that sends out invisible blades of air. It’s similar to Water Edge, but the air blades are invisible. The sharpness is inferior to Water Edge, but the fact that it’s invisible is a huge advantage. I’ll use them well depending on the situation.
Stone Needle is a magic that shoots out sharp stones about 20cm in length. It’s called a needle, but it’s easier to imagine it as an icicle. This type of magic has low power per shot, but the charm is that you can deploy many at once. The activation is fast, so there are few openings. It’s the perfect magic to annihilate caterpillars.
However, it’s a blessing that they were already at Lv 5 from the start, even though they are 5th tier magic. I can defeat Green Worms and Acid Worms with a single blow. Including breaks, I was able to defeat about 100 in about 5 hours. Last time, it took about 20 to reach 25, but this time, it took 100 to finally reach the same 25. It seems that it becomes harder to level up as the rank increases. Even so, the annihilation speed has increased, so the time is shorter.
From Lv 25, I’ll be leveling up in the North Forest. Once I returned to my base, I went to sleep early.
The next morning, I woke up and immediately headed to the North Forest. My target is C-rank Monsters. Using Life Detection and Magic Detection, I find Dark Wolves and Angry Boars, and defeat them with magic. I also actively use Wind Magic and Earth Magic, not forgetting to raise my skill levels. After about 3 days, including meals, my level had risen to 40.

(It’s getting harder to level up around here.)
Based on my leveling experience so far, the average level in the North Forest is around 40 for C-rank. In fact, I’m D-rank, but I can easily defeat the Monsters around here. This is probably because my race is a mutant and I can inherit skills. This shouldn’t be the case for a normal Magic Beetle. After all, the Monsters in the forest attack me without hesitation when they see me. This means that there are others of my race, and they are not as strong as I am.
The level goes up quickly when you fight someone stronger, but it becomes extremely difficult to level up against weaker opponents. In other words, if I want to level up further, I have to fight someone stronger.
(It’s about time to fight that guy.)
My range of activity is narrow, and I haven’t left this forest yet. Therefore, I only know of one place where there are Monsters above level 40. Yes, the Great Mountain further north. There should be plenty of Monsters above level 40 there. But, if I rush in without any countermeasures and a Red Dragon appears again, it would be unbearable. I don’t have the strength to defeat a Red Dragon yet. I was lucky to escape that time, but there’s no guarantee I can escape again. This time, I’ll lure out the Wyverns around the area and fight them a little away from the mountain.
I headed towards the mountain in the north, thinking about how to lure out the Wyverns.
Before my eyes, a huge mountain with large rocks scattered around was towering. When I visited before, I was immediately attacked by a Wyvern. They probably live around this mountain. If I stay here too long, a Red Dragon might appear again, so I quickly explored the area and found a Wyvern. I immediately released a Water Edge and lured it towards the forest.
The Wyvern, with a shallow wound on its foreleg, is furiously chasing after me. It doesn’t know that it’s going according to my plan.
Wyverns are of the dragon species, but they are lower-ranked, so their intelligence is not that great. The fact that they easily fall for my provocation and chase after me is proof of that. Moreover, the forest is overgrown with trees, making it unsuitable for flying. Especially for a large creature like a Wyvern.
But the Wyvern that is chasing me now is probably very angry at being injured by a bug like me. It’s chasing me in low flight so as not to lose sight of me. Because of that, it has to avoid large trees, and its head is crashing into thin branches. It doesn’t realize that it’s creating a big opening…
After taking a certain distance from the mountain where the Red Dragon lives, I stopped running and counterattacked. Just as the Wyvern’s head crashed into the leaves extending from a branch, I aimed from directly above and unleashed Poison Bullets.
Two Poison Bullets hit its back, and the Wyvern was knocked to the ground. It seems confused by the sudden attack. I continued by hitting its wings with Stone Needles, pinning it to the ground. The Wyvern struggles to pull out the Stone Needles that are stuck like stakes. The Wyvern, which has already become a mere target, was continuously hit by Air Cutters.
The Wyvern struggled for a while, but soon stopped moving due to excessive bleeding and poison.
(Alright, alright, let’s hunt Wyverns at this pace.)
My plan was a complete success, and after this, I continued to defeat the lured Wyverns one after another with magic.
