Chapter 2: Let’s Choose Skills ○

I woke up again… or so I thought, but I can’t see anything around me, so I’m not actually awake. It seems more accurate to say that my consciousness has awakened. As my awareness becomes clearer, my memories gradually return. It seems I was truly tricked by that scam goddess, Astartina, and reincarnated into another world. Probably not as a human, but as moss.
Since moss doesn’t have eyes, it’s natural that I can’t see my surroundings. However, I can somehow sense the presence of wind and water. The fact that I can think means that I’m probably not in an environment where I’ll be eaten or wither away immediately after being reincarnated, but I can’t be sure if it’s safe.
I don’t know how long this state will last, so I need to quickly prepare to survive.

(Even I, with my limited knowledge, can tell. These stats are terrible. I have to do something, or I’ll die soon.)
At this rate, I won’t be able to relax; I’ll die immediately. To overcome this situation, I have to acquire the “skills” that the goddess mentioned.
I focused on the words “Reincarnator Bonus” in the upper right corner of the window. Then, a list of skills that I could acquire appeared. There were a vast number of skills…
(W-Wow, there are so many!? If I check these one by one, it will take way too long. First, I need to quickly choose the skills that seem necessary for survival.)
I searched through the vast number of skills displayed, looking for useful ones. However, even if I focused on the skill names, no explanations appeared. Does that mean I have to judge the effects of the skills from their names? If I get a skill with an effect different from what I expected… Even though there are 15 slots, I can’t choose useless skills. But I don’t have time to choose carefully either. What should I do!?
While I was panicking and searching for useful skills, one skill caught my eye. Its name was “Appraisal.”
(That’s it! If I get this first, I might be able to understand the effects by appraising the skill names!)
Thinking so, I immediately selected “Appraisal.” A strange sense of accomplishment filled my heart, and “Appraisal” was added to the skill section of my status.
(Alright! Now I should be able to understand the effects of skills!)
I immediately tried to appraise a skill that I couldn’t understand well just from its name.
“Thought Acceleration” = Accelerates thinking. The acceleration time is Lv x 10 seconds.
Oh, I accidentally found a good skill! Accelerating thoughts means that even at Lv1, I can make one second in the real world feel like 10 seconds in my mind. Since I’m choosing skills in my mind, this should give me more time to choose!
I immediately added “Thought Acceleration” to my skills.
(Okay, I don’t have a sense of my surroundings, so I can’t really feel it, but I think my thoughts are accelerating. Come to think of it, I just realized that the unit of time in this world is also seconds.)
While gathering information from the appraisal results, I used “Thought Acceleration” and “Appraisal” to choose more skills. And after what felt like a few minutes…
Okay, I think I’ve got the necessary skills for now. Status Open!

Okay, with “Life Detection” and “Magic Detection,” I can roughly understand my surroundings. Furthermore, with “Hostile Sense,” I know that there are no animals or fish that are natural enemies of moss nearby. I don’t know how far Lv1 reaches, but I have to be thankful for the luck that I wasn’t reincarnated in a place where I would die immediately.
From “Life Detection” and “Magic Detection,” it seems I’m in the middle of a small pond surrounded by trees. I seem to be growing on a large rock there.
For now, it seems I have time to choose the remaining skills slowly.
While activating the Photosynthesis skill that moss originally had, I decided to choose the remaining eight skills.
The skills I chose after taking more time than before are as follows:
Special Evolution = When the race level reaches its maximum, there is a possibility of evolving into a higher species or a different race.
Light Magic = Allows the use of Light Magic.
Water Magic = Allows the use of Water Magic.
Space-Time Magic = Allows the use of Space-Time Magic.
Gravity Magic = Allows the use of Gravity Magic.
Chant Break = Allows the use of magic without chanting.
Item Box = Allows storage of non-living things in a subspace.
Language Comprehension = Allows understanding, speaking, and writing of all languages.
I found “Special Evolution” at the bottom of the window by scrolling, learning from my previous mistake. I chose this skill hoping that it would allow me to escape from being moss.
I chose Light Magic and Water Magic because I thought I might be able to generate the light and water necessary for moss growth on my own.
I chose Space-Time Magic and Gravity Magic because they seemed powerful if I could use them. However, they are not displayed in the magic list, so it seems I can’t use them at the moment. I feel like I made a bad choice, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to use them in the future.
I chose Chant Break after realizing that I had taken four magic skills. What did I realize? That moss can’t chant.
I chose Item Box because I vaguely remembered reading in a light novel that it was very useful. It seems like it would be useful when I can move around in the future, and since it can store non-living things, I thought I could use it to protect myself by storing things like pebbles if they were to fly at me.
And finally, I chose Language Comprehension because if I could evolve from moss and move around, I might be able to go to the human world, and it would be convenient if I could understand the language. It should also be useful for finding other reincarnators.

Skill Collector New!
The Skill Collector title that appeared in the title section appeared when I acquired my 15th skill. Its effect is to make it easier to acquire skills. In other words, I learned that I have the potential to acquire skills on my own, not just from the Reincarnator Bonus. I carefully looked at and memorized the skills when I was choosing them, so I’ll aim to acquire various skills from now on to increase my survival rate.
Actually, I had a bit of a collecting habit before I was reincarnated. I didn’t have much money, so I could only collect things like bottle caps and pretty stones. When I saw the skill list after being reincarnated into this world, I wanted to collect as many skills as possible.
I still don’t have a strong sense of reality, and I feel like I’ve been tricked, but if this is reality, then I’m grateful that I was reincarnated. Even as moss, I have a purpose in life. What I decided to do here is…
- Evolve and survive
- Collect many skills
- Find other reincarnators
- Eventually live a slow life
For the time being, I’m going to enjoy my life in another world with these four goals in mind.
First, I decided to think about my future actions while photosynthesizing.
