Isekai Life Starting from Moss – Chapter 28

I don’t know where to express my gratitude, so I’ll write it here.
Thank you for following this work, and for your support with stars and hearts. I am very happy.
Although this is just an amateur’s hobby work, I look forward to your continued support.

Satisfied with my first meal in the Royal Capital, I decided to gather information about the city next.

First, the place where Ochcho-san, who had given me food, worked was a yakiniku restaurant called “The Orc Tei.” That meat was so delicious that it was hard to imagine it came from an Orc.

He told me to come again when I was hungry, so I hope I can eat there regularly somehow… but I feel bad about getting it for free every time.
However, even if I wanted to pay, I have no way to earn money. My Item Box is full of a huge number of Monster corpses, but I don’t think a cat can exchange them for money. So, maybe it would be better to hunt Orcs and give them to him.

I’ll see how it goes with the food problem for now, and next, I need to figure out a place to sleep. For that, I should walk around the Royal Capital a bit.

After spending a few hours walking around, I was able to roughly understand the layout of the Royal Capital.
First, this Royal Capital has gates in the east, west, south, and north, and the main streets extending from them all lead to the castle located in the center. I’m not sure about the defense aspect though…

On both sides of the main street connected from the south gate, which is the main gate, there are weapon shops, armor shops, pharmacies, and accessory shops. The main street from the east gate has many shops selling food and inns, and the main street from the west gate is where various guilds are based. The north side of the city is a residential area, but all areas become more luxurious as they approach the center. Therefore, the central part of the city, centered around the castle, seems to be the noble district.

In the southeast area, there are many inns for Adventurers and merchants, and in the southwest area, there are many blacksmiths and pharmaceutical workshops.

In the northern residential area, although the mansions of nobles were lined up in the center, there was also an area in the northeastern end that didn’t seem very safe.

In this world, there are basically many single-story buildings, and the tallest building is the castle in the center. There are hardly any buildings with three or more floors, and even the mansions of nobles and various guilds are mostly two-story buildings. Most of the other buildings are single-story.

So, to find a place to sleep, I inevitably came to the Slums in the northeast of the Royal Capital. There are many vacant houses here, and other stray cats and dogs seem to be living here, so I thought I wouldn’t stand out. By the way, I’ve already subdued the stray dogs and cats around here. After glaring at the boss-like ones, they were lying on their backs with their bellies up, so I guess no one will defy me anymore.

It seems that the space under the roof of a single-story house was conveniently vacant, so I decided to make it my sleeping place for a while. I didn’t want other animals to enter while I was away, so I used Earth Magic to seal all the gaps. Since you can’t enter without using Earth Magic, ordinary animals shouldn’t be able to get in.

Now that I’ve secured a place to sleep, I decided to explore each area in more detail.

First, let’s go to the eastern area, where there are many shops selling food. I’m not that hungry since I ate a lot of meat, but I want to put anything edible I find into my Item Box. It’s better to have some reserves, just in case.

On both sides of the main street, there are more restaurants that serve food. Shops that sell ingredients seem to be located on streets one or two blocks away from the main street.
The shops look like festival stalls. I can’t go into a restaurant in this form, so I’ll focus on looking at the shops that sell ingredients. Walking as cutely as possible.

Fortunately, even though I’m a Killer Cat, my fur color is different thanks to the mutation, so I’m not recognized as a Monster. On the contrary, I’m treated kindly as a cat wherever I go.
At the shops selling vegetables and fruits, I was given a fruit like an apple, and at the butcher shop, I was given something like a sausage.
However, there were hardly any shops selling seafood, and even the only shop that did sell it only had dried goods. Perhaps they don’t have the technology to transport fresh fish from the sea. I have a feeling I could make a fortune if I transported them with my Item Box.

Anyway, I pretend to eat the food I receive and secretly put it into my Item Box. At this rate, I don’t have to worry too much about food. However, maybe it’s my Japanese nature, but I feel bad about just receiving, so I want to thank them somehow…

It would be nice if there was a place where I could exchange Monster materials for money in this form…

Well, for now, I have no choice but to leave behind something useful without arousing suspicion.

After securing food in the eastern area, I headed to the weapon and armor area in the south.

As expected of the Royal Capital, there are various kinds of shops. In weapon shops, there are swords carelessly placed in barrels, and there are also shining greatswords displayed as if they are showing off.
I’m appraising everything I see, but the cheap ones are mostly made of bronze or iron. The ones sold in decent cases were made of steel, silver, or black iron. By the way, the greatsword that was proudly displayed was made of Mithril and had an effect of Agility +20.
The materials in the armor shops were similar, and it seemed that Mithril was treated as the highest-grade product.

I also found a shop selling potions, but it was a little disappointing because I couldn’t see inside from the outside.

There were also stalls lined up, displaying accessories, and people with signs saying “We sharpen swords.”
I also found a magic item shop, but I couldn’t go inside and see it. I’d like to go there when I evolve into a human form someday.

I also went to the workshop area in the southwest, but as expected of workshops, the security was tight everywhere, and I couldn’t easily peek inside, so I passed through and headed to the west area where various guilds were located.

Just by looking around, I could find various professional guilds such as the Adventurer Guild, Merchant Guild, Blacksmith Guild, and Magic Guild. Among them, I decided to try infiltrating the Adventurer Guild, which seemed to have the loosest security.

Among the Adventurers, there were people walking around with Monsters like me, whether they had tamed them or summoned them, I don’t know. However, what those Monsters had in common was that they were wearing collars and had something like tags on them. Perhaps it was proof that they were familiars.

I mingled with those Monsters and went through the door of the Adventurer Guild.

(Oh, so this is the Adventurer Guild!)

There were Adventurers wearing various weapons and armor. Not only humans, but also elves with pointed ears and beastmen with animal features.
Right in front of the entrance, there was a large bulletin board with many papers posted on it. Looking closely, I could see the details of the requests and the rewards.

(So this is what they call a quest.)

I remember Eric, who came to Myra’s village, saying that he had taken on a quest. This must be that quest.

Looking to the right, there were many counters lined up. From the right, they were labeled New Registration Counter, Quest Acceptance Counter, Quest Report Counter, and Material Appraisal Counter. Now that I think about it, I’m glad I chose Language Comprehension as my first Skill.

Looking to the left of the quest bulletin board, there was a dining hall and bar, and next to it was a small shop selling weapons, armor, and potions.

I sat down next to the bulletin board and started appraising the Adventurers.

Race: Human
Name: Herald
Rank: B
Level: 42
HP: 201/201
MP: 62/62
Attack Power: 187
Defense Power: 175
Magic Attack Power: 58
Magic Defense Power: 143
Agility: 156

Skills:
Swordsmanship Lv12
Poison Resistance Lv4

Hmm. I appraised someone who seemed reasonably strong, and he was a B-rank swordsman. With these stats, it seems difficult to defeat a B-rank Monster alone, but can he make up for it with weapons and armor? Or does B-rank mean that he can defeat a B-rank Monster in a party?

Okay, next, let’s appraise someone who looks like a mage.

Race: Elf
Name: Nier
Rank: B
Level: 46
HP: 186/186
MP: 223/223
Attack Power: 161
Defense Power: 138
Magic Attack Power: 247
Magic Defense Power: 234
Agility: 181

Skills:
Fencing Lv14
Spirit Magic Lv15
Charm Resistance Lv6

Hmm, hmm. I tried appraising someone who seemed quite strong at this guild, but they were also Rank B. Could it be that Rank A is rare? Still, this elf lady is quite the powerhouse. She might even be stronger than that swordsman from earlier.

I spent a fair amount of time appraising other people, but I couldn’t find anyone stronger than these two.

By the time I left the Adventurer Guild, the sun was already setting, so I returned to my sleeping spot, ate a slice of the apple-like fruit I received, and fell asleep.
