013 Idiots Don’t Get Better Even If They Die
When I recited the conversation between the protagonist and God Anubis from the original story word for word, I was creeped out to an extreme degree.
But, I was judged to understand the Netherworld’s system, and I smoothly received the Virtue Card and permission to enter the Tower, so I think God Anubis is a good god.
“Well then, we’ve been released, but we don’t have a place to live. So, first, we need to get a base.”
“That’s right. We also need to get equipment, and gather information about the monsters in the Tower.”
“So, let’s divide the roles.”
“I’m listening.”
I’ll dive into the Tower.
You find a house.
“Perfect.”
“What part of that is perfect! This is supposed to be preparation for challenging the Tower, but are you planning to go commit suicide?!”
Yeah, well, I understand that reaction.
In this world, monsters are generally stronger than humans.
If I were to use levels as an example, without fear of misunderstanding, an untrained adult male is level 1, while a Kobold, the weakest monster in the academy dungeon, is level 3. It’s not that you can’t win, but if you were to fight one-on-one, you’d likely be seriously injured and barely win.
By the way, the Goblin Leader, the boss of the first floor, is around level 7. At this point, humans without any means of fighting would just be mercilessly killed, and with that in mind, entry to the dungeon is by permission even at the academy.
Higaki, the Disciplinary Committee Chair, understands this very well, which is why she’s so wary of the monsters in the ‘unknown area’. Perhaps her past experience of being attacked by monsters outside the wall is also fueling her caution.
Furthermore, in her defense, gathering information in a safe place and preparing equipment based on that is something anyone would do, whether in a game or in reality, so her reaction is not strange at all.
But, you see, I remember all the types of monsters that appear in the Tower, their weaknesses, their fixed locations, the internal map, and everything else.
So, there’s no need to gather information, right?
If I just get a sword, I can manage, and if I go straight to the treasure chests inside the Tower, ignoring the enemies, I can get weapons, so there’s no need to shop, right?
That leaves me needing lunch and a house to sleep in, but I don’t want to waste time on such trivial things when I have the chance to level up for the first time in 16 hours… I really don’t!
“Okay, I get it. Then, I’ll go gather information, and I’d like Higaki to look for a base. You’re more established in the academy and seem more grounded than a newbie like me, so you’re probably better at dealing with people.”
“You could have just said that from the start. So, how do we meet up?”
“Ah… For now, let’s check in around the plaza in the afternoon? If possible, I’ll earn some pocket money by then, so I’d like you to use that as a base to pick out a place that could be a base.”
“Alright. Then, see you later.”
And so, we parted ways. I made sure to watch Higaki until she was out of sight, then I took a back alley and hurried towards the Tower.
The Netherworld is a downloadable content that assumes you’ve progressed to the mid-game, so the monsters that appear are also as strong as that progression.
Do you remember me saying that ‘Level 57 is about the character level at the halfway point of the original game’? In other words, the monsters that appear in the Netherworld’s Tower are at an appropriate level of around level 60.
A nest of monsters that are at the right level for me right now—what that means is that it’s the most efficient leveling dungeon right now, where the monsters’ experience points are more delicious than in the real world!
“Off… Offo! Hehehe, wait for me, monsters! I’m going to!! For the sake of a great cause, justice, and experience points, and experience points!! I’m going to hunt you all until my lunch time limit, and make you my nourishment!! Woohoo, I’m getting pumped!!”
Along the way, I attacked a thug-like fellow and got a decent short sword. I gripped the unsheathed blade and rushed into the Tower. I heard the gatekeeper’s voice telling me to stop from behind, but I didn’t care.
And, following the map in my head, I ran to a group of fully armed Minotaurs.
As planned, I made contact with the monsters, and holding the short sword in reverse grip, I leaped in with high spirits!
“Five of them for a total of 3,140 experience points!! I won’t let a single one escape, hyoi!!”
For now, let’s aim for 2000 by noon!!
With that goal in mind, I kept thrusting my short sword into the Minotaurs, my cheeks stretched as far as they could go by the visualized experience points.
