Level Raiser – Chapter 36

035 The Leveling Freak Resurrects

Somehow or another, I spent half a year in the Netherworld.
Finally, my level reached the cap of 80, and there was no longer any reason for me to stay in the Netherworld, where I couldn’t obtain any Star Seeds.

It’s additional downloadable content, you know? As a token of gratitude to those who bought it, they could have at least put 10, 20, 100, or even 200 Star Seeds here.
Even if I say such foolish things, reality won’t change, so I decided to obediently return to the living world.

“Damn it, the Underworld, where I could keep hunting all day as long as my mental strength held out, was the best leveling stage…!”
“And that’s why you hunted all the monsters in the Tower by yourself, causing protests from other people, wasn’t it?”
“I increased the amount to make up for the shortage, didn’t I?”
“It’s completely your fault that you’ve been banned from entering the Tower until today, you know.”

I’m actually quite remorseful about causing a stampede by messing with the central mechanism a little.
But all I wanted was to level up, God Anubis-sama…!

Higaki brushed off my excuses, Ms. Iris crushed me with her logic, and now even God Anubis is starting to treat me rather carelessly.
Even today, when I went to say my final farewells, he gave words of encouragement to Higaki and Ms. Iris, but to me, he just said, “Take it easy, and farewell.”

“It’s quite lenient of him to let you off with just that after causing such a commotion…”

Ms. Iris said with a sigh.
I know, I understand. I understand that it’s my own fault, okay?
But, you know, there should have been something more, right?

“There isn’t. Now, let’s go.”
“You’re being so blunt today? Did something good happen?”
“There’s no better news than being able to resurrect, is there?”
“When you put it that way, I guess so.”

As I regained my very ordinary senses, I followed Ms. Iris, who was leading the way, along with Higaki, towards the top floor of the Tower.

In the living world, one can resurrect by boarding the Ferry of the Grim Reaper located on the top floor of the Tower.
To board the ferry, you need to receive a pass from God Anubis, and this item is proof of scenario completion.

The ferry is a very ordinary wooden ship.
However, its size is as large as a sailing ship, the kind you’d see in a pirate movie, which I think gives you a rough idea.

“I thought it would be a small boat since it’s called a ferry… but it’s quite magnificent. It seems like I don’t have to worry about my luggage.”
“The equipment I received for the battle with that bastard, the Seeds that were collected for me. Also, alchemy materials and accessories. I was worried because it was quite a lot of luggage, but it seems like it’ll be okay.”
“Well, the biggest worry was Ms. Iris, though…”

Following Higaki’s words, we both looked at Ms. Iris, who had boarded the ship ahead of us.
Behind her was a cart loaded with daily necessities and furniture, the amount of which was that of someone who was completely moving.
Ms. Iris, humming a tune, pulled the cart, which was piled higher than my height, and seemed to possess strength that didn’t match her slender arms.

“What’s wrong, you two~? Let’s go quickly~?”

Ms. Iris, waving cheerfully from the deck, had decided to accompany us and move to the living world.

Although her mental state had recovered considerably over the past six months, she couldn’t quite escape the trauma etched deep within her heart. Although the frequency had decreased, she still couldn’t stop seeking ‘fervor’ and coming to touch me and Higaki.
After discussing it with God Anubis, they decided to try changing her environment and having her live in the living world, away from the Netherworld where the Tower, which reminded her of the incident, was located.

And so, she was entrusted to me and Higaki.
We protested the selection of us many times, saying, “Stop it, reconsider,” but in the end, we were overwhelmed by Ms. Iris’s single statement, “I’ll go if I’m with the two of you.”

“What are we supposed to do, being suddenly entrusted with an older girl?”
“It’s probably going to be what it’s going to be. It seems like housing and work will be taken care of, so after that, we just have to interact like normal people… ah.”
“What is it?”
“…I, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it that way!”
“Why are you apologizing!? I can at least keep an eye on Ms. Iris!!!”

Hey, don’t board the ship looking so apologetic and averting your eyes! Hey! Wait!!
It seems like you think I’m a hopeless person who can’t even interact with people, but I’ve been working hard on it since Ms. Iris pointed it out!!
Now, I have the interpersonal skills to smile and cut off a conversation if a stranger talks to me!! What’s with that face!? Do you have a problem with that, huh!?

I chased after Higaki, complaining, and boarded the ship.
The ship, which started moving with Ms. Iris’s shout of “Departure!”, soared into the sky and took off towards the living world.

Soon, the ship was enveloped in light, and our vision turned white.
I had tried to drag Higaki out of the captain’s cabin, where he had barricaded himself, to correct his perception until just before that, but it ended in failure.
