Three years ago, I, Nagano Mika, was working for a black company in Tokyo.
Every day was a grueling ordeal at that hellish workplace, and one fateful day, after returning home, I found myself in an unfamiliar place.
“Success! We have summoned the Saint!”
I was in a vast stone chamber, surrounded by armored figures and people dressed in medieval European attire.
As I stood there, bewildered, I noticed a girl in a school uniform beside me. She was none other than the true Saint, Kiso River Kogomi.
“Orokani Kuso-sama! We have successfully summoned the Saint! However, there are two Saints present.”
The one who entered the stone room was Orokani Kuso, the crown prince of the Gata Niiga Kingdom. A minister-like figure informed him of the situation.
Orokani Kuso cast a glance at me and sneered, “There’s no way someone as plain, unattractive, and aged as you could be the Saint.”
Well, Orokani Kuso was only 19 at the time.
From a 19-year-old’s perspective, someone in their late twenties might indeed seem old.
“Oh, how beautiful! What is your name?” he asked Kogomi.
“I-I am Kogomi… Kiso River Kogomi.”
“Kogomi! What a beautiful name! It suits you perfectly!”
Orokani Kuso knelt before her and said, “Saint Kogomi, I implore you, please save our kingdom.”
After a brief explanation from Orokani Kuso (though it was more directed at Kogomi), I learned that this world was a fantasy realm filled with swords and magic.
Monsters roamed freely, making it a perilous place where human life was valued very lightly.
To ensure the safety of its people, the kingdom summoned a Saint from another world every hundred years to cast a Barrier over the city. The Barrier kept the monsters at bay.
Magic existed in this world, including Barrier magic. However, only a Saint from another world could cast a large-scale, long-lasting Barrier that enveloped the entire city.
After the explanation, it was time for skill appraisal. Kogomi possessed the Saint Skill. As for me, my skill was a mysterious one called “Internet.”
“Indeed, Kogomi is the true Saint!” Orokani Kuso declared.
“Um, then I’m not needed, right? Can’t you send me back to my original world?” I asked.
“Hmph! There is no way to return. The summoned Saint must live in this world.”
Orokani Kuso said this without a hint of remorse. Meanwhile, Kogomi looked terrified.
And who could blame her? She would never return home. While I had already lost both my parents and was single, working at a black company, it was a different story for her.
“Kogomi, I will guarantee your life here. I will do everything in my power to ensure you live comfortably,” Orokani Kuso promised.
Hearing that she would live a life of luxury in another world, accompanied by a handsome prince, Kogomi seemed to accept her fate. I, on the other hand, was not satisfied, but with no means to return, I resigned myself to my situation.
Of course, the kingdom did not guarantee my life as I was not the true Saint. I was to receive a salary from the kingdom and work as an aide to the Saint, Kogomi.
However, things turned out to be quite hellish. Kogomi hardly did any of her duties as the Saint.
She left everything to me. I had no choice but to work to earn my keep. It wasn’t out of patriotism; it was simply to survive.
There was an Adventurer’s Guild in this kingdom, and there were job opportunities in other countries as well. But when I was summoned, I knew nothing about this world and had no connections.
Thus, despite the terrible environment, I had no choice but to work under Kogomi in the Gata Niiga Kingdom.
And then, three years after my summoning, it was announced that the marriage between Saint Kogomi and Crown Prince Orokani Kuso was officially decided.
Perhaps Kogomi wanted to elevate her status as a Saint, so she decided to cut ties with me, the other Saint.
And that’s how I ended up being exiled, leading to the present day…
